BASEBALL AND VALUE The GCE Phoenixes are a baseball team that is in need of new players. Their general managers Vriend and Cohen has asked their trusted scouts to track a long list of eligible players, and come up with a scouting report. Statistics will play an important role in this scouting report and the value of the players in the sport (GCE). I will be tracking five players: Joe Mauer, Alfonso Soriano, Victor Martinez, Ryan Braun, Carlos Santana.
Biography: ● Joe Mauer: Joseph Patrick Mauer, was in April 19, 1983. He is an American baseball catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Minnesota Twins. Joe Mauer is the only catcher in the MLB 1 history to win three batting titles. Also, he won three consecutive Gold Glove Award2 s (WIKIPEDIA). ● Alfonso Soriano: Alfonso Guilleard soriano, was born in January 7, 1976. He is a Dominican baseball player. Currently, he is playing for the Chicago Cubs of Major league baseball as an outfielder3 (WIKIPEDIA). ● Victor Martinez: Victor Jesus Martinez, was born in December 23, 19778. He is an Venezuelan professional baseball designated hitter with the Detroit Tigers of MLB (WIKIPEDIA). ● Ryan Braun: Ryan Joseph Braun, was born in November 17, 1983. He is an American baseball left fielder for the Milwaukee Brewers of ML. Ryan was ranked seventh by the Sporting News in its 2012 list of 50 greatest current players in baseball (WIKIPEDIA). ● Carlos Santana: Carlos Santana was born in April 8, 1986. He is a Dominican professional baseball player. He is a catcher and first baseman with the cleveland Indians for MLB (WIKIPEDIA).
Fifteen twenty years ago, scouts did not really pay attention to statistics. They based their decision on different characteristics, such as speed, quickness, arm strength, mental toughness and hitting ability. I will be tracking 4 statistics: OPS:
OPS which is the on-base plus slugging. We calculate the OPS by adding the on-base percentage plus slugging average. The batting average is the total number of hits by the total number of At bats. Slugging percentage is the number of total bases, singles, doubles, triples, and home-runs divided by the total number of At Bats. The slugging 1

percentage is more an indicator of power. BA:
Batting average is hits divided by at bats. (also abbreviated AVG) Abbreviation: (H/AB) HR: Home runs: hits on which the batter successfully touched all bases, without the contribution of a fielding error.

The Major League Baseball network has been rolling around in cash like a chinchilla in sand. The grotesque rise of baseball salaries reveals everything that’s wrong with the American financial system. Free agency did not exist in MLB until the reserve clause was abolished in 1975. This allowed owners before that time to dictate the terms of player negotiations and resulting in significantly lower salaries. Ever since the reserve clause has ended, baseball players salaries have risen. I chose Carlos Santana as the best baseball player between the five because, he had the best statistics compared to the rest. I think he is worth 12,000,000 million dollars. As for the rest, I ranked them according to their statistics . For the value, I wanted to have an 1-5 million dollars money laps.
