Causes: BPD was believed to be caused by defective parenting. Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. BPD creates an imbalance in the neurotransmitters that regulates impulsive control and emotions in an individual. Statistics: - BPD affects six to ten million Americans (about the population of New York) - 75 – 90% of the those diagnosed with BPD are women - 1/10 people with BPD commit suicide - 33% who commit suicide have features, or traits of BPD
