02 algida twist

algida designathlon Twist - freezer design

The design was made as a part of Algida Designathlon 2018 with Serra Zileli. I contributed the concept, features, the design and presentation while Serra contributed modeling and rendering to the project.

02 algida twist

Twist’s shape is visibly different than the average freezers. Twist’s shape and interior make Algida products and the freezer itself visible and distinguishing. The height and the interior organization of the Twist makes the freezer accesible for everyone especially for kids.in multiple directions.

adjustable sun shield We wanted to give Algida’s character and brand image to our freezer while solving freezer problems that we have found. We knew that Algida’s umbrellas are very important for Algida’s visibility and marketing. Inspired from Algida umbrellas, we made Twist sun resistent and Algida personality by adding adjustable playful red arch which can filter some of the sunlight.

research In order to examine the future needs for Toronto firstly we needed to understand the city and find context factors. After an extensive research we grouped our context findings into 4 clusters. It is found out that by all metrics Toronto has been consistently growing in the past decades. Even though the population is very diverse in background, there is a distinct inequality emerging in Toronto. The middle income group is declining showing a worrying increase in this trend.High income areas are generally grouped close to transport links whilst low income areas are underserved by public transport.

how do torontonians want to feel when travelling? We know they ride public transport a lot, but if a future system is to continue this trend, we’ll need to address their wants to encourage further use.To find out more about this we did a survey wit Survey Monkey and found 3 main areas that our future system should improve on.

the system The system is based on a few commonalities between all of the participating vehicles. The most obvious is the communication between the vehicles in the city’s autonomous zones. The partly autonomous vehicles can only operate autonomously in certain zones: city center, the airport and transport hub areas and main arterial roads. The fully autonomous vehicles can travel anywhere within the Great Toronto Area.

the impulse To have a smooth transition between modalities and to plan the journey as fat as possible we created an app called IMPULSE. Much like existing route planning apps you can input your starting point, destination and time. Impulse also lets you choose what vehicles you want to use. Next to the planning function, Impulse has an interface that keeps you in touch with your own vehicle. The integration between public and private vehicles will encourage and embrace diversity whilst combatting inequality.

Provide end to end transport that embraces diversity of Toronto, conquers it’s dynamic climate and builds toward a sustainable future.

design characteristics Dendrite is designed to be electric which makes it eco-friendly, and have a warm, open interior giving comfort to the passengers and a feeling of safety to pedestrians.

washing machine design Co - new washing experience Co is a washing machine design for the future to be used for a new washing experince. The design was made individual as a part of Industrial Design Studio III course collaborating with B/S/H/ in 2018-2019 Spring Semester. My supervisor was Ĺžebnem Timur, timurseb@itu.edu.tr

design concept In my research for 2030, I have found that with the advancement of technology, people will become lonely among these machines and feel lack of communication. I realized that comunication is stronger when mutually reinforcing, so I gave Co a form that approaches the user.

product details

Chromium detail indicates where to open and interact with the lid. Extended handle makes the washing experince easier by making easy access to both right handed and left handed users. As Co will be the washing machine of the future I tought detergent and softener cartridge housings which can easily open by pushing the lids.

One of the problem that I found was the hardness of the filling process due to typical washing machinies’ style. I also wanted to improve the lid opening . Lid opening was designed in a way that is coherent to Co’s form. The opening of the lid in this way ensures that the lid does not open towards the user’s face and prevents your laundry go behind the back of the curved shaped Co.

lid features

display features

After opening the Co, menu of selections shows up. In this menu firstly, there is an easy and quick access express washing button. Secondly there is a button which contions all of the previously saved washes. The regular was button is on the right top corner above Mood button. I especially consider users’ needs and problems while designing the main menu with quick access to express wash and my washes button.

After sellecting wash button the user come across with the selection of type of material which clothes made. I specificly sellected these options since these were the most used according to my research.

Later on, user come across with the sellection of the tempreture and the number of spin in order to wash. I found out from my research that most of the users get confused when they are at the stage of selecting the right tempreture and spin speed. That is why the user will be presented with a selected display of appropriate values for the fabric. Providing 3 suitable values for the program allows users who do not use a washing machine to make medium, high and low value comparisons.

04 Co

Mood feature With the Mood option, personalized colors and motion graphics provide a relaxing and soothing visual to the user while enhancing the association between the Co and the user.

washing together I wanted to include the user in the work of the co since I think that impact and feedback play an important role in communication. After seeing the selections that the user made, the user is ready to start washing. The user who swipes up to start the washing process also starts the spining of the Co’s colored fluid. Co completes the action of the start by starting the washing process and continue to spin the fluid just like clothes.

Through its form and your choise of color, Co exceeds beeing simply a home appliance and becomes a reflection of your character and a part of your home.

06 la filter

coffee machine design La Filter La filter is a filter coffee machine for people who loves their coffee soft, warm and milky. The design was made as a part of Industrial Design Studio II course in 2017-2018 Spring Semester. My supervisor was Ĺžebnem Timur, timurseb@itu.edu.tr

research In order to understand the users needs and wants, I did an extensive research and a survey with coffee drinkers. I found that nearly 30% consumes filter coffee regularly and filter coffee is 20% of the participat’s first choice. More that 60% of the participants like their coffee with milk because they found some coffee ,like drip coffee, intense. One of their problem was the tempreture of the coffee since they consume it with milk.

design decisions

Affordablity is one of the key feature of filter coffee machines. Simple mechanism of the machine makes it more prefered than other complex coffee machines. So I wanted to make a design which has minumum changes on the mechanism and cost, but maxiumum effect on the experience.

Tempreture of the filter coffee is a problem on the coffee user’s eyes. Since more than 60% of the consumers prefer to drink coffee with milk, milk’s tempreture becomes a important fact, as a result I wanted to design a filter coffee machine which provides mild milk.

After my research in contex, I decided to make La Filter space saving since there are already a lot of machines on the kitchen top. In order to do that I reduced the machine’s area and build the volume vertically.

The design only enables to pour one beverage at a time. For coffee, you can simply pour it from the jug. If you prefer your coffee with milk, you can easily press the top part and after the “click” sound you can enjoy your coffee with milk.

From the white band indicator it can be unerstood which liquid is going to come.

The design keeps the coffee and milk mild with a simple heating mechanism. Milk is heated with the coffee’s heat and steam. Since is milk only heated from coffee there won’t be enough heat for milk to boil. As a result, there wont be cream on top of the milk.

06 la filter For people who loves their coffee soft, warm and milky. The design only enables to pour one beverage at a time.

La Filter is suitable for the offices where coffee is always needed and ready.
