How to Choose Your Agent
In any market, but especially in a competitive one, it’s important to find a realtor that is your best match. Where do you start? Here are some things to look for…
• Communication: You’ll want to feel comfortable with your agent and that you can speak with them openly. You’ll likely have a lot of questions and your realtor should be able to answer them, or find an answer for you rather quickly. You’ll also want to work with someone who communicates in a way that’s best for you. Are you a phone person? Prefer a text? Email? Sort that out with your chosen realtor so that your communications expectations are clear.
• Chemistry: You’ll be working with your realtor A LOT. For that reason, you’ll want them to be someone you enjoy spending time with.
• Experience: By working with an expert in the industry, you’ll likely benefit from their connections and knowledge of the local market. Ask realtors you’re interviewing how many times they’ve renewed their license; it can give you a good sense of how long they’ve been working.
• References: Ask trusted friends and family members who have purchased in the area in which you’re looking to buy or sell who they’ve worked with and if they recommend them.
• Fees: Know up front what your agent’s fees are so you aren’t surprised later. They should be perfectly willing to communicate this to you as well as share information on other fees to expect in working through the process.
