What IFPS Means to Me

»IFPS IS AN industry-recognized organization that offers accredited certifications that have both industry skill level recognition and are challenging. Certification gives not only recognition of achievement but boosts self-confidence in being a knowledgeable and experienced person working within the industry. IFPS not only focuses on industry learning but safety as well, which is critical in the fluid power industry. IFPS certification has helped me grow as an individual, provided recognition within the fluid power industry, and has helped me gain the confidence to pursue a career and job I enjoy and in which I find significant meaning.

How I See IFPS Viewed in Industry

I see IFPS recognized as a third-party certification organization that is recognized both locally and globally, focused on safety, knowledge, and skill level. IFPS certification is not just a college or entry-level certification but is recognized as having industry value, representing a certain skill level through both the written and job performance tests. IFPS certification is not just a completion of a course; it has substantial meaning behind being certified.

For those studying to obtain certification, it is not just about the certification title, but the knowledge and safety learned through the studying process that comes even if the certification is not obtained. The certification process is challenging, so do not be discouraged.

IFPS 2021 Annual Meeting

»THE INTERNATIONAL FLUID Power Society annual meeting takes place Oct. 5-7 at the Whitney Peak Hotel in Reno, Nevada, with a pre-meeting technical workshop scheduled for Oct. 4.

The workshop, Understanding and Calculating Heat Loss for Various Types of Circuits, is presented by Ernie Parker, CFPAI, CFPE, of Hydra Tech Inc. Parker explores how to calculate heat loss for various circuits such as meter in, meter out, bleed off, pressure compensated, load sensing, flow controls, counterbalance, closed loop hydrostatic, line sizing, and standby systems. Participants learn how to use proper placement of components to make the most efficient circuits and systems without adding cost. Simple and efficient circuits will also be discussed. Participants should bring a TI-30XA or purchase one with their registration.

UTILITY EXPO

OPENS IN LOUISVILLE

The Utility Expo, formerly known as the International Construction & Utility Equipment Exposition, kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 28 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.

Covering more than 30 acres, the three-day show is the largest event for utility professionals and construction contractors to glimpse the latest industry technologies, innovations, and trends.

The show announced some guidelines to protect against COVID. Masks will not be required for vaccinated show participants, and social distancing requirements have been removed. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the show. The aisles in the indoor spaces will be wider than in previous years. The Utility Expo website said organizers will “implement new guidelines and protocols as required at the time of the show.”

A number of educational sessions are planned, including field classrooms on the show floor. The interactive, walking classrooms are 90-minute sessions led by industry experts. Attendees can choose from 28 sessions on topics such as fleet management, fleet accessories, safety, vegetation management, and aerial devices.

Attendees can also purchase on-demand materials, choosing from more than 60 sessions that they can access starting Oct. 1 and are available for a year. Topics include safety, business best practices, pipeline solutions, equipment technology, workforce development, underground solutions, drones, DOT updates, and aerial solutions.

A water pavilion education program organized by Storm Water Solutions and Water & Wastes Digest includes live demonstrations led by industry experts. Topics include asset management, best management practices, digitization and automation, energy efficiency, erosion and sediment control, and funding. 
