OUR LOVE STOR Y Josh and I were brought together 6 years ago by the power of a jukebox in a divebar in Baltimore. My favorite band came on–and it is not a band one hears often–so I went around the bar asking people if they had played it, which ultimately led me to Josh. We were originally scheduled to get married in June 2020 with 150 people at a Historic Shady Lane, and after two postponements, we were forced to change to a small 30 person wedding in Josh's parents' backyard, which backs up to Rock State Park in Maryland. We were surrounded by nature, we took our portraits amongst lush ferns, and we had our first look and private vow exchange nestled amongst some boulders. Our dogs, Finn and Lily, were beside us throughout the day. It was magical, and it felt like us–from the food–sushi and pizza as appetizers in homage to our favorite date nights–down to the vintage rug nestled in the trees where we sang our hearts out to a pop punk power hour with our closest friends and family. The pandemic made us rearrange a lot of things, but this version of our wedding feels like it was reflective of who we are and truly felt meant to be. If you had asked me 10 years ago, I would have swooned at the idea of portraits among ferns, a pop punk power hour, and being married barefoot (in Vans for him) in the forest. The pandemic gave us permission to do just that–be ourselves and be true to us–no questions asked. We had a rockstar vendor team, our favorite people and animals by our side, the decor of my dreams, music that reflects us and our story, amazing food and drinks, and lots and lots of love.

OUR LOVE STOR Y
Danielle & Ben
Ben and I met when we were in high school because I played club volleyball with his twin sister. After both Ben and I went on trips to Haiti separately, Ben asked me to meet up to talk about it! I told him I thought his sister should come with us so it wouldn't be a date, but on my way to meet up with them at Chickies Rock, I got a call from his sister saying she wasn't coming. So it ended up just being the two of us hiking, but after that we quickly became inseparable. During our junior year of college Ben proposed on a rooftop park in Philly with a ring that he had bought nine months prior. We decided to get married as soon as we graduated in May, but in March, Ben tore his ACL in a volleyball game, and we were worried he wouldn't be able to walk at the wedding. Little did we know, a week later, the whole world would shut down because of COVID-19 and we were much more concerned about actually getting married than whether Ben could walk or not. When it came down to it, we knew we would be getting married on May 23rd 2020. Even if it was with just our siblings and parents, all we cared about was getting married. And honestly it was the most perfect, intimate, emotional wedding day with both of our families there to celebrate with us.

OUR LOVE STOR Y
Shawn and I met when we both began working at Amazon in 2017. He asked me out multiple times, and I politely declined every time, insisting that dating someone from work was not a good idea. Fortunately, Shawn is a persistent man, and I finally agreed to let him take me out almost 6 months after he first asked me out. Two beers in, we both knew our lives were about the change. Shawn asked me to marry him 3 short months later, and this time there wasn't an ounce of hesitation from me. I said YES! We knew we wanted to be married in the fall, and after seeing Historic Acres of Hershey, we set our date for October 26th, 2019. Our wedding was the perfect combination of warm fall tones, textures, and cozy candlelight. And of course, we had to honor our dating roots by creating our own beer garden during cocktail hour for guests to enjoy. Unfortunately, it rained on our wedding day, but with our awesome photographer and wedding planner, we could barely tell. And I suppose it's true–rain on your wedding day is good luck, because we just welcomed our first child this past fall. The most perfect first wedding anniversary gift!

OUR LOVE STOR Y After a chance encounter at Penn State, Mary and Jack fell in love. They dated for three years before Jack surprised Mary with a ring at their alma mater. He planned an after party with both of their families at the restaurant they had their first date! Being Pennsylvania natives, the couple decided to get married at Wyndridge Farms in York, PA. They love trying new restaurants in their current city of DC and tailored their menu to reflect that! Despite multiple revisions due to COVID-19 and the passing of Mary’s father, the couple was still able to create the wedding of their dreams with their closest family and friends. To match their personalities, the joyful day included bright florals, a six course meal, and lots of laughter and dancing. It truly was a day of celebration and love!

Matthew & Michael
OUR LOVE STOR Y
We’re definitely the twentyfirst century couple when it comes to how we met. We matched on Tinder in the summer of 2014; something that really shouldn’t have happened. Matthew was 19 attending college at the University of Maryland at the time, while Michael was living in Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia finishing up his senior year at Arcadia University–a distance over the app’s 100 mile radius. Neither one of us had our search radius outside of 20 miles though. Out of sheer will of technology, we matched anyway, and immediately began talking. We dated long distance for the next two years, which was challenging, but to our eventual realization, helped us grow stronger together. After college, the two moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania–the Christmas City–for Matthew to further his education, which fit perfectly with Michael’s love for the Holidays. It was here that Matthew first proposed to Michael in their apartment, by hand stitching “Will you Marry Me?” to a heart and tying it around the collar of their cat, Finn. He obviously said yes! Michael knew we had to be “extra” though and proposed to Matthew again in Brooklyn after a perfect day at Brooklyn Brewery. Their love of winter and the holidays led to their self proclaimed theme of the wedding–“Icy European Glam,” which we eventually developed into “Luxe Lodge”. The couple now lives in Lancaster City in a newly flipped townhouse with their cat Finn, and two dogs, Lincoln and Ella.

Gone are the days of the plain white wire arch with maybe a floral arrangement or two. These past few wedding seasons have proven that wedding arches are making a major comeback. So whether you’re a classic romantic or looking for a funky modern twist, we’ve asked the experts how to achieve the arch look of your dreams.
Classicly Romantic Experience a Midsummer Night's Dream with an arch that exemplifies romance and garden-esque charm. Cascading flowers are the key players in a romantic arch. Florist Laura Kohr of Laura of Lauxmont says to achieve this look, you have to “create a river of flowers that catch the eye at different lengths.” This trick draws the eye in one fluid motion. Another pro-tip is to cool it with contrasting colors. Laura says, “ [For example] if your main colors are burgundy and white, bridge it with blush or mauve for a softer transition.”
• Be strategic with linens. Drapery can completely change the look of an arch, and the flow of the fabric helps add a soft detail. • Use greenery like seeded eucalyptus and nagi for that garden-like feel. PHOTOGRAPHY: ALYSSA CHRISTINE PHOTOGRAPHY | DESIGN: LAURA OF LAUXMONT | VENUE: LAUXMONT FARMS, YORK, PA
Modern Minimalist As the popularity in micro-weddings grows, so does simple yet impactful arch design. Achieve the look by “creating an asymmetrical layout that incorporates a spray of flowers in one of the top corners of the arch and complementing it with a simpler bunch on the opposite upright post,” says Colton Weyant-Staver of The JDK Group. But having a minimalist arch doesn’t mean you can’t add a bit of drama! Colton recommends using textural greenery and larger focal blooms like curly willows or birch twigs as a way to draw attention without overwhelming the overall arch.
• A simple rod arch is the perfect way to include metallic touches that will catch the eye. • Proportions! Keep in mind that balance in floral placement is especially important in a minimalist design. PHOTOGRAPHY: BOBBI PHELPS | DESIGN: COLTON WEYANT STAVER OF THE JDK GROUP | VENUE: THE BOND, YORK, PA

The Wild Card Your wedding is the perfect opportunity to go big! This pampas grass circular arch is what arch dreams are made of, proving that sometimes–more can be more. A unique design in its own rite, creator Kristiana of Wild Indigo Floral Design says the inspiration came from the bride wanting something different to serve as a focal point for her wedding day. By having the arbor be all pampas grass–it created a statement while still having a soft natural look.
• Pampas grass goes beautifully with neutral toned palettes and adds texture without being overwhelming. • A circular arch instantly gives a “wow” factor as they’re not as common.
“I take a lot of my inspiration from nature and the changing seasons.” − KRISTIANA AMBERGER
PHOTOGRAPHY: THE BARTLETT PAIR PHOTOGRAPHY | DESIGN: WILD INDIGO FLORAL DESIGNS | VENUE: HISTORIC SHADY LANE, MANCHESTER, PA
Bohemian Blooms Let your free spirit shine through with a Boho-inspired arch. Bride, Jordan Harper, says she was inspired by desert oases–a concept that blended her husband’s love for the beach and her fondness of the West. Tara Folker of Splints and Daisies even mentions that you don’t just have to stick to flowers–succulents and cacti can add that extra ‘something’ to a boho-inspired arch. The blend between tropical foliage and desert blooms blossomed into a one-of-a-kind arch.
• Add a tapestry or woven detail to your arch for an instant boho look. • Details matter! Think about including decorative pieces like a bull skull, lace, or even an area rug that complements the color scheme.
“Try to design with style in mind versus just flowers—that way your boho wedding has a unique landscape.” − TARA FOLKER

5 Wedding Cake Alternatives Too Sweet to Miss
When the traditional wedding cake falls short of accurately telling your story, don’t be afraid to take a different route. Here are five sweet ideas to present at your wedding that are so good, they may just become new matrimonial traditions.
BY JULIA SELWYN
BEILER’S DOUGHNUTS 398 Harrisburg Ave, Lancaster 51 North 12th Street, Philadelphia | beilersdoughnuts.com
You and your spouse have just added new rings to your hands, so it is only appropriate to celebrate with the edible representation of those commitment accessories. Whether tiered, trayed, towered, or even trailered, Beiler’s Doughnuts will not disappoint in their debut for your “I Do.” Share an homage to your childhood with the Fruity Pebbles Doughnut, a classic statement with the Glazed Doughnut, or a peek into your music preferences with the Elvis Delight Doughnut topped with bacon pieces.
DOUGH & CO. doughandco.co
You have given so much dough already for the wedding of your dreams. You owe it to yourself to make a toast with a cup of dough you will truly enjoy. With each spoon of Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, or Caramel Stroopie, among many other flavors, you will be thankful for this next chapter of your life and that these cookies never made it to the oven. Try it alongside a scoop of ice cream and rent the Dough Truck to add a nostalgic touch to your pictures.
SWEET CONFECTIONS CAKES 4702 Fritchey Street, Harrisburg | sweetconfectionscakes.com
If completely departing from the traditional wedding cake feels too unfamiliar, simply reintroduce it in a fresh way. Have your cake...pop, and eat it too! Sweet Confections’ cake pops can easily bring overall vibrance in colors and display styles to your wedding, while acting as individualized pieces of dessert. They are sure to be the exclamation point to the end of your celebration.
SWEET VELVET MACARONS 56 East Main Street, Palmyra | sweetvelvetmacarons.com
Give your guests the gift of culture without ever leaving your venue. Sweet Velvet Macarons marries the taste of a French delicacy with the theme and style of your wedding. The level of design and creativity baked into every order could easily qualify for the cover of a magazine (macarons that look exactly like tacos?!). The many seasonal, traditional, and fun flavors are what define these small cookie-like treats with mighty (or subtle) pops of color—perfect in a tower arrangement or boxed as favors.
THE PENNSYLVANIA BAKERY 1713 Market Street, Camp Hill | pabakery.com
You can never go wrong with a good cupcake. At The Pennsylvania Bakery, everything is made from scratch—meaning that the possibilities for your cupcake dreams are endless here. Every cupcake can be as elaborate and detailed or as classic and uniform as you would like. There’s no doubt that whatever kind of display you choose to sweeten up your wedding, will leave you thinking about that first cupcake glance, even during your vows.
