Whether you’re a bride-tobe, in a bridal party, a guest attending someone’s big day or you’re just looking for some inspiration and ideas to add to your own wedding Pinterest board, get ready to find everything you need and fall in love with this issue.

Step into six weddings and feel like a part of each fairytale on page 22. You’ll surely feel inspired after reading about each local couple’s love story as well as learning the significance behind their personal details like including dogs in the celebration, special traditions such as getting ready side by side before walking down the aisle and unique touches including wearing cowboy hats to pay homage to one couple’s current home and their desert chic theme.

Incorporating organic and original elements are especially trendy this year in the wedding world (though this is truly a timeless trend), so turn to page 35 to get even more inspiration for how to make your day feel like yours. Our team had the pleasure of partnering with The JDK Group and several wedding vendors to organize a styled shoot with the goal of showing off details beaming with boldness, class and most importantly, authenticity.

We can all agree that food is another important detail when planning a wedding (and really, any occasion), so we invite you to try the delicious D-I-Y appetizers, found on page 19, to serve at your wedding or even make for a friend. These recipes are guaranteed to be flavorful, memorable and budget-friendly.

For more deliciousness, flip to page 15 to read about Plant Box Co. Cafe. Plant Box Co., currently

in Manchester (and winner of Best Atmosphere for our Best of York and Adams County 2024), recently opened their doors in downtown York. The new location is serving up coffee, crepes and plants—of course! They also offer floral services for weddings and events and are a vendor in one of this year’s featured weddings, found on page 26.

Lastly, let’s not forget about the behind-thescenes details, too, on wedding day. This includes self-care and your own wellbeing. Emotions fluctuate and stress is high leading up to—and during—the occasion, so turn to page 13 to get some helpful tips and advice on how to take care of yourself and your loved ones to ensure your day runs smoothly and is unforgettable.

We wish you a healthy and happy New Year, and we hope this year for you (wedding or not) is full of inspiring moments, overwhelming love and fulfilling growth. We hope you find the courage to be your most authentic self this year by—just like a wedding—adding your own personal touches, special traditions and original flair to your life. Being yourself starts with the details. It’s all in the details.

Their commitment to honoring Lancaster’s heritage shines through in every corner of the venue, from the exposed beams and restored brickwork to the vintage-inspired details. LANCASTER’S INTERFAITH

WEDDING OFFICIANT

REENIE PANZINI MAKES YOUR WEDDING YOURS, WHOEVER YOU ARE.

Despite popular opinion, some of life’s greatest virtues cross cultural and religious lines—like love and happiness in whatever shape they come. At least that’s what interfaith wedding officiant Reenie Panzini, who spent two years studying around 100 religions at an interfaith seminary, says.

“They're all based on the same thing,” Panzini says. “Love your neighbor and love each other. I try to push that along.”

Panzini is a Brooklyn native with strong ties to her hometown, but she’s been a Lancaster

Greek crowns

TIED TOGETHER WITH RIBBON...
“ FROM PAGAN HANDFASTINGS TO

resident for decades, helping say “I do for all,” as her tagline goes. She didn’t always have a rhyming name (she married into it, naturally), but it suits her. With a tattoo of an owl and her staple oversized eyeglasses, she’s a welcoming figure who people can’t help but connect with.

Panzini officiates a lot of LGBTQ+ weddings, interfaith weddings (such as Judeo-Christian, for example), and even Pagan or Celtic weddings. She writes everything custom for each couple based on her extensive training, with a knack for recommending rituals that help interfaith couples come to an agreement. From Pagan handfastings to Greek crowns tied together with ribbon, she has a strong encyclopedia to pull from.

While living in New York, Panzini had a wedding storefront, where she planned weddings, organized party favors and more. Many of her clients were from an Italian Catholic neighborhood; she wrapped lots of Capodimonte porcelain for wedding guests (an Italian tradition).

After moving to Lancaster for access to better schools for her children, Panzini decided to pursue interfaith wedding officiation, and she spent the next two years going back and forth to The New Seminary for Interfaith Studies, where she studied conflict resolution, ceremony writing and rituals for a wide berth of religions.

After a brief mental calculation, Panzini notes she has attended around 1,000 weddings over the course of her career.

Because of her work officiating all kinds of weddings—even the kinds that can be controversial in the cultural zeitgeist, such as queer weddings—Panzini has run into her fair share of obstacles. She moved to Lancaster around two decades ago under the impression it was more progressive, but quickly received threatening letters about her work. While she says the area has opened up to different kinds of people over the years, there’s still tension. Her work, it seems, is highly in demand for couples who fear they won’t be accepted for who they are and, just as importantly, whom they love.

Many couples find her after trying other avenues but failing to connect with them. “People say they're open, but then they have these rules for things you have to do, and I don't have any of that,” she says. Instead, Panzini sticks with what’s legally required for an official wedding ceremony, and the rest is custom.

For example, there’s no legal requirement to ask for someone to “speak now or forever hold your peace.” Panzini says, “I don't have to say that at all, and I won't, even if somebody requests. I think it's bizarre.” That’s a tradition with roots in medieval Christianity as a way to ensure someone wasn’t already married or had other conflicts. The internet, and other cultural advancements, made that tradition a moot point.

Because Panzini has been a part of planning and conducting so many weddings, she comes bearing advice. Have your families meet before

the ceremony, she says, whether it’s at the rehearsal dinner or a barbeque beforehand. It can be a big personality clash having everyone

Another tidbit? As much as possible, try to do what makes you happy as a couple, rather than letting your parents or other family members take the reins. Panzini fondly recalls a bride walking down the aisle led by her elderly cat, which brought joy to the couple, especially considering the cat passed away just a week later.

She also urges couples to book their vendors fast, pretty much as soon as they get engaged, and to make sure they’re on the same page so their event turns out as hoped. She recalls a couple whose guests weren’t big dancers, but they booked a DJ that tried to get them to dance at every turn.

By the time the ceremony hits, Panzini is in all black, performing her duties while trying to blend into the background. It’s not about her, after all. But the reality is that Panzini is a standout, and her clients know it, too. That’s why, she says, “I get to hear everything afterwards. For some reason, I turn into everybody's mother, and they all email me afterwards, first with a thank you and a picture, but then, ‘Oh, you're not going to believe what happened.’”

All of that considered, Panzini says, “I love all of my couples.” That’s what keeps her coming back for more, working baby naming and baby blessing ceremonies when the next family member comes along.

Celebrating Sacred Moments, Your Way

TIPS FOR AN INTENTIONAL WEDDING DAY

FIRST LOOKS FOR ALL

videography company serving couples in Lancaster.

From posing with your best friends for bridal party photos and greeting guests you haven’t seen for years, to cutting cake and dancing under glittering lights—every wedding is packed with back-to-back events and emotion-filled moments. If you’re not careful, any slow moments may quickly become overshadowed by the countdown to ceremony.

Working in the industry as a wedding filmmaker, I had the privilege of capturing wedding days for countless couples and working alongside all-star vendor teams, each working behind the scenes to keep the day on schedule. The days that stand out most in my mind are the ones where the couple prioritized peace by building slowness into their schedule. It wasn’t an afterthought—it was an intention set from the very beginning of the planning process.

How to make this happen? Talk to your planner, your photographer and handpicked vendors. They are ready to make every dream come true, especially if that means an extra minute to steal away with the people you love on a day you’ll treasure forever.

Here are some ways to make time for the moments that matter most:

PLAN A SLOW MORNING

The tradition of keeping couples separate before a wedding ceremony dates back centuries to a time when many marriages were arranged. It’s rooted in a superstition that the groom would back out in his commitment to marry if he saw his bride before being at the altar. It’s a tradition that’s endured, but if you’ve got a rebellious streak, consider having breakfast or morning coffee with your partner before the day starts. A quiet moment can ground any event-induced jitters and bring an added burst of excitement to the day. I’ve heard couples reflect on the time before first looks by saying, “I felt off all morning because my person wasn’t around.” As soon as they saw each other, their peace returned.

Whether you’re choosing to see your partner before the ceremony or saving that first glance to be in front of your friends and family, first looks aren’t reserved merely for brides and grooms. Once the dresses have been buttoned, ties straightened and makeup finished, consider inviting a grandparent, parent or siblings to see you before you make your grand entrance down the aisle. These are intimate moments to honor the people who have stood beside you, supporting and encouraging you toward this very day.

WRITE A LOVE NOTE

It can be overwhelming to connect meaningfully with every single person you hope to. Handwritten notes are an intentional detail that can happen before the day itself, creating a connection between you and your guests without needing to carve out significant time in your schedule or exert additional energy. I’ve seen brides give their bridesmaids handwritten notes as they are in hair and makeup or before walking down the aisle. Reading someone’s most sincere thoughts and then moving through a day of supporting and reflecting on what their friendship means to you adds a special layer of celebration to the day. If you’re opting for a micro wedding or a more manageable guest count, consider leaving sweet notes for each of your guests at their place settings. Task you and your partner to write a short note of the family and friends you've invited to the party. Don’t have time to add this to your mile-long to-do list? Try sourcing notecards from companies like Felt that conveniently turn type into your handwriting.

KEEP SURPRISES SIMPLE

When we talk about wedding day surprises, there is often an emphasis on grandeur or expensive signs of affection. Realistically, the simplest surprises become the most meaningful. It could be asking the DJ to play one of your parents' most favorite songs, inviting them to the dance

CARVE OUT TIME TO BE together

floor to scream it at the top of their lungs with the crowd. It could be dedicating your bouquet to your mom instead of tossing it into a sea of single ladies. I recently read about a couple who decided to play rock paper scissors at the altar to decide who would read their vows first. A couple I worked with decided to have a coffee station, featuring mugs they picked up at thrift stores during the months of their engagement leading up to the wedding. At the end of the night, each guest left the party with a favor hand-picked and thoughtfully curated by the couple. It's these small, special moments that showcase your personalities and add up to a memorable wedding day for all involved.

TAKE A BEAT

After the ceremony and before the reception, carve out time to be together as a couple— just the two of you. It doesn’t have to be long, but find a few seconds to ground yourself, look at each other and say, “We just did that.”

Manchester’s Plant Box Co. Café expands to York

M. DIANE MCCORMICK PHOTOGRAPHY BY KARLO GESNER

As Matt Jones renovated a downtown York storefront, he could hear passersby reading signage about the new café on the way.

“Oh, my God!” they’d say all day. “It’s Plant Box Co.!”

Plant Box Co. Café is already firmly rooted in the York County town of Manchester. Now, the verdant nook is bringing its goodies, gifts and greenery to new audiences.

Plant Box Co. originated during the COVID lockdown, when boredom was eating away at the entrepreneurial Brina Williams-Jones and her husband, Matt. She went to a plant auction and came home with 300 succulents. “What are we going to do with those?” Jones asked.

Sell them, William-Jones responded. As her online business selling succulent gift boxes grew, the pair acquired storage space. Then they added a plant boutique. On a drive home from a Florida plant convention, they concocted the idea of central Pennsylvania’s first houseplant café.

Jones, former COO of a lighting retrofit company, got to work building tables, backlit wall hangers and a concrete counter. Walls in Tiffany blue —“If Tiffany had a terrible evening,” WilliamsJones says—were painted a crisp white, all brightly illuminated by track lighting. Plants

fill the space, all available for sale and ready to deliver their oxygenating and mental wellness benefits to homes.

Despite an allergy to coffee, Williams-Jones found the perfect coffee partner with New Holland Coffee Co., whose bright roasts lend themselves well to Instagram-worthy “dessert in a cup” drinks. She devised a menu of baked goods and sandwiches, all named after houseplants, that fit the café’s “brunch for the girlies” vibe.

“We're very feminine focused,” Williams-Jones says. “We really wanted it to be a place where women feel they can come and enjoy a meal and take a break from the world.”

Weekend brunch, in the café awarded Susquehanna Style’s 2024 “Best Atmosphere” in York and Adams County, is a highlight. Coffee flights pair with baked goods made inhouse, such as the popular Monstera Monte Cristo featuring ham, Swiss cheese, strawberry preserves and strawberry cream cheese on a French toast bagel.

“Every seat is taken,” Williams-Jones says. “Everybody's here and chatting and having a great time, and we love it. We love it when it's busy and loud and wonderful.”

For joyous monthly events, pop-culture cafés take over the shop. In October, a wave of the wand transformed the Manchester space into Harry Potter’s Three Broomsticks Inn. Friends’ Central Perk is coming soon. The year’s blockbuster is Gilmore Girls day, when guests drive for hours to enjoy a Luke’s Diner coffee and chat with Matt Jones, subbing for Luke in flannel shirt and backwards baseball cap.

“He has a great time,” Williams-Jones says. “We all have a great time. It's perfect.”

As Manchester thrived, Williams-Jones scouted downtown York for a new location. She found the 150-year-old Haines Building, with its crown molding “and beautiful historic features that we’re obsessed with.”

The café opened last fall. Like Manchester, the York café sells coffee and girly drinks, easycare houseplants, baked goods and boutique items including jewelry, décor, and accessories crafted by local women artisans. There in a non-bar, bistro setting, watch for mocktails and crepes, filling Downtown York’s gap in go-to dessert spots. Takeover events are fewer, although “we probably have to do a Gilmore Girls downtown because they won't want to be left out,” Williams-Jones said.

Williams-Jones brings her signature whimsy to Plant Box Co.’s wedding florals, the side of the business she calls “my baby.” She and lead floral designer Eryn Boyer create a “garden-party vibe” for weddings from micro to grand. The colors of the bridesmaids’ dresses can sparkle in a bridal bouquet, or a sprig of eucalyptus perks up a boutonniere with texture and fragrance.

Touching on everything floral, from bouquets and flower crowns to aisle and table flowers, Williams-Jones leans into the hospitality aspect of her mission.

“Sometimes people are with us for a year and a half throughout their wedding process, and then they continue to come in for coffee,” she said. “It's just lovely. We get updates from at least half of our couples. It's a really special part of our business.”

Work keeps Williams-Jones and Jones busy, but they schedule a no-shop-talk date night every week. The fur-baby parents of 14-year-old lemon beagle Mia and 3-year-old poodle-pointer Louie travel frequently, often taking the award-winning Louie to Frisbee competitions.

With its second location, Plant Box Co. now employs 18 people, many of them young women in college and reaching for personal goals.

“We want them to be able to walk into this team, feel confident, and know that they're going to be treated well and appropriately,” she said. “Employees will tell you it's a pretty cool place to work.”

The Plant Box Co. mission statement encompasses that ideal, striving to make a positive impact for the community, employees, vendor partners, and the clientele who have become part of the Plant Box Co. family.

“We're very fortunate that people trust us and care about our staff,” Williams-Jones says. “They're invested in Plant Box Co. It's a community in itself, and we always feel very thankful and very grateful that people want to be a part of that circle and be part of a little bit of the crazy. People have bought into Matt and I as a couple and to Plant Box Co. as a business, and that's never something we'll take for granted.”

Alyssa and Densel Barnes are true free spirits who have always had a passion for adventure. When it came time to plan their wedding, they knew they wanted to do something completely unique. After nearly two years of living in a small Colorado cowboy town surrounded by mountainous landscapes, they decided to create a wedding that captured the wild beauty of the West. A “Desert Chic” theme emerged from their shared love for the Colorado landscape—terracotta tones, dry floral arrangements and earthy textures inspired by the state’s rugged terrain.

“The breathtaking rock formations and natural beauty inspired me to incorporate these elements into our wedding,” Alyssa says. “The Desert Chic/ Western style became a clear choice.”

Alyssa and Densel’s love story began on the East Coast, however, at West Virginia University, where she says there was an immediate “spark.”

“We quickly became gym partners, and our weekends turned into unforgettable adventures — hiking through the hills of West Virginia, sledding down snowy roads and exploring every hidden gem we could find,” she says. “Densel opened my eyes to a new way of living, filling my life with excitement and boundless possibilities.”

Their bond grew, but after graduation, they went their separate ways.

Fate had other plans—the couple reconnected at a wedding in Houston, and once again, became inseparable.

“A month later, Densel made the effort to visit me in Philly from upstate New York, and he planned an epic three-week road trip,” she says. “It was during this adventure that Densel realized what he truly wanted in life. On December 17, 2023, he got down on one knee, and I knew my life was forever changed.”

The couple initially moved to Colorado for Alyssa to further her education, but they fell in love with the state and decided to stay and now have two dogs and two horses together.

Reflecting their love for their small cowboy town and adventure, Alyssa says they worked with York wedding planner Leah Barnes (Perfection Bridal), to create the Desert Chic

theme, and Alyssa credits Leah for dreaming up the concept and bringing the details to life.

“For our table design, we used terracotta stone scraps that my horses had broken apart in the backyard. My cousin Savannah helped me with the calligraphy for the table numbers,” Alyssa says. “For the florals, I wanted mostly dried arrangements to echo the natural beauty of Colorado. Cowboy hats were my ideas, enthusiastically supported by Densel, also known as the ‘Chocolate Cowboy.’”

Other details included terracotta bridesmaid dresses, a turquoise ring and incorporating Irish and Jamaican dances on the dance floor to honor their heritages.

“I truly feel we caught our guests off guard in the best way possible. Many of them shared how unique and special our wedding day was, expressing their appreciation for our family traditions,” she says.

Alyssa adds that the most memorable parts of the day for her were the first look and getting ready with the bridesmaids and groomsmen— and the venue they selected, Bentley Farms, “perfectly embodied everything we envisioned and represented us as a couple.”

She encourages other couples to be as unique as possible when planning a wedding, “dare to be different” and to choose a theme that truly reflects your life together.

For the future, she says theirs is full of more adventures, their passion for fitness, having children and living on a ranch surrounded by family and animals.

“I wanted everyone to feel the love Densel and I share, and I believe the entire day reflected that. I think this experience opened my family’s eyes to a new way of life,” she says. “Densel took a suburban girl and introduced me to the joys of country living, and I absolutely love it. I can’t imagine our life any other way.”

An archway adorned in ivory roses and baby’s breath petals, a picturesque backdrop of sage green foliage and translucent water and sophisticated hues of blacks and whites made Hannah and Luca Grippi’s wedding look like a fairytale come true.

The occasion was, in fact, a fairytale come true— and so much more—for Hannah, who says she’s been dreaming of having an enchanting, beautiful wedding ever since she was a little girl.

“While a black-and-white wedding never goes out of style, I wanted to add my own touch by incorporating hints of green and gold. These touches give our wedding a bolder look, yet still maintain the traditional and classy feel I always envisioned,” she says. “This blend of classic and bold elements makes the day uniquely mine, a perfect reflection of my dreams and style.”

Hannah and Luca fulfilled their dream on May 31, 2024, tying the knot at The Farm at Eagles Ridge in Lancaster. Their story begins in college (both Alvernia University alum and central Pa. natives), meeting shortly before the COVID pandemic. What would have been typical, going-out date nights turned into “cozy evenings cooking, watching movies and cherishing each other’s company” during the lockdown. Hannah says this allowed their relationship to “blossom.”

“It wasn’t long before we realized we were deeply in love,” she says. “Our relationship has grown into something truly beautiful and real, a testament to the strength of our love and connection.”

Hannah and Luca then got their first apartment together in Lititz, rescued a dog and got engaged. She says they enjoy discovering new restaurants, coffee shops and adventures, but what’s most important to them is spending quality time with their family and friends.

Therefore, it was evident to them that their fondness for their loved ones needed to be at the forefront of their big day.

“We wanted to do something truly special for our parents and bridal party, so we both wrote letters to our parents to read on the day of the wedding. I also took the time to write my bridesmaids personalized letters to open as we all got ready,” Hannah says. “As we sat together,

reading these letters, it created such a touching and emotional moment for all of us. It was a beautiful way to start the day, surrounded by the people who mean so much to me.”

Part of their family includes Finley, Hannah and Luca’s rescue dog, and though Hannah says Finley couldn’t be there on their wedding day, he was not forgotten—and it “felt like he was right there celebrating with us.”

“Everyone who attended the wedding knows how much we adore our dog Finley, so we absolutely had to include him. … We featured his cute face on our napkins with the phrase ‘drinks on me!’ during cocktail hour. It was a huge hit,” she says.

Another important detail of their big day was the array of Italian desserts, which pay homage to Luca’s family which is from Italy. Hannah says this added a personal, and delicious, touch to the occasion while reminding them, again, of their love for family—and for their future.

“We are eagerly planning a trip to Italy in the next few years where we will visit Luca’s parents’ hometown,” she says. “The highlight of our journey will be renewing our vows in the same beautiful church where Luca’s parents exchanged their vows, creating a deeply emotional and unforgettable experience for us.”

Hannah says she and Luca have a future “filled with love and adventure,” and they truly cannot wait. Currently, she works as a nurse and Luca works in sales and marketing while also coaching boys soccer. They recently purchased their first home together in Lancaster— “an exciting step—” and they’re looking forward to walks with their dog, exploring new destinations and weekly date nights.

“As newlyweds, we feel an even deeper connection with each other and are so excited to start a family someday. We were extremely excited to begin this new chapter of our lives, surrounded by all our loved ones” she says. “It was the most magical day, and we know we’ll be cherishing those memories forever.”

Taylor

Chase

10 | 12 | 2024

It was always fate that Taylor and Chase DiPietro were meant to be together. They grew up five minutes away from each other, in Littlestown, and shared plenty of mutual friends. Shortly after Chase asked Taylor on a formal date and they began officially dating, he transferred to her same college (York College), and the rest is history.

“Ever since then, we have been inseparable,” Taylor says.

On October 12, 2024, the couple officially tied the knot at Hazelwood Weddings, and Taylor says their special day was nothing short of a fairytale, something she had dreamt of ever since she was young.

The couple wanted their wedding to be centered on the love they have for each other, so they opted for a neutral, classy theme with minimalist vibes.

“I loved the look of a neutral wedding with gold decor and champagne bridesmaid dresses, but I wanted to add some sort of color scheme that would pop,” she says. “I was inspired by a color palette that I came across called ‘Peach Fuzz,’ which included some pinks as well. As soon as I saw that color palette, I was sold!”

Taylor says the minimalistic decor and details she curated—like floral bud vases matching the bouquets, gold accents and a small dog figurine next to the cake—represent her living space, lifestyle and self. The dog figurine was extra meaningful.

“I added the dog figurine next to our cake to represent our dog Tucker. He is the best dog and fur baby, but we chose not to have him come to the wedding because it would be very overwhelming for him,” she says. “I wanted to be able to include him because he represents one of the first big commitments we made to each other. We rescued him right after we got our first apartment and wanted to make sure he was included in some aspect.”

Another significant detail of the day, Taylor says, was the time she and Chase spent together before the ceremony, exchanging private vows and the first look. She said they wanted to be able to share an intimate moment alone, and she is “so happy” they made the choice to do so.

During the ceremony, the officiant had them both stop and take a moment and look into the crowd, to acknowledge and appreciate the family and friends who were in attendance.

“It was really heartwarming … It felt really special because she reminded us that our wedding was the only time that those specific people would be all together at the same place,” Taylor says.

Taylor says the entire day felt truly “surreal,” especially walking down the aisle to Chase. She says they’re currently “loving the newlywed bliss” and their admiration continually grows for each other.

Their future plans include exploring new places together, walking their dog, spending time with family in their recently purchased first home and a trip to Italy. She says both work busy schedules (Taylor as a board certified behavior analyst and Chase as a financial

analyst), so they also deeply cherish quiet and relaxing weekends together as well.

“We are both so thankful that we were able to have the wedding of our dreams. Our wedding day definitely flew by, but we made sure to stop and take everything multiple times throughout the night,” she says. “ Our vendor team was truly amazing and took care of us, and I also highly recommend having a private last dance. It was so special to be able to come together, just the two of us, at the end of the night.”

JessEmma

8 | 22 | 2024

Real love is all about being able to show your authentic, eccentric self when you’re with the one you love. This has always come naturally in Emma and Jess Brosey’s relationship, and they wanted their big day to reflect exactly that.

“Weddings are about expressing yourself and the love you have for each other, so having a simple or plain wedding was not what we were looking for,” Emma says.

Bright bold oranges and pops of hot pinks and magentas made Emma and Jess’ intimate Thursday micro-wedding far from simple.

The couple first met during their second semester of nursing school, and Emma says they were “inseparable” ever since.

“One day, Jess complimented my green and white Nikes. … During lecture, we had brief 10-minute breaks, but those often stretched to nearly an hour as we got lost in conversation, eager to learn more about each other,” she says.

A little over two years later, on August 22, 2024, they finally said “I Do” and tied the knot in front of 50 of their closest family and friends at Historic Ashland in Wrightsville.

“We wanted an intimate wedding where we could connect with everyone who took the time to share in our joy,” Emma says. “We knew we did not want a long ceremony, but we knew we wanted it to be special and unique, and we also wanted our guests involved.”

Emma and Jess opted for uniqueness during their ceremony with a butterfly release, in which they released four butterflies, and each guest had some to set free as well.

“A butterfly represents transformation, growth and the beauty of life’s journey. Jess and I were embarking on our own beautiful journey, and we were ready to grow and transform together,” Emma says.

Emma—whose career as a postpartum nurse is far from the wedding industry—planned their special day herself, and she says it was essential to keep the theme of family consistent throughout it.

“My Aunt Lucy was the officiant. My Poppy walked me down the aisle, and my mom and Bobo walked down the aisle together. Jess’

mom and dad walked her down the aisle,” Emma says. “We also remembered our loved ones who are no longer with us with a memory table that displayed their pictures. … Instead of passing my bouquet to a bridesmaid, I had my mom hold it.”

Other details that made the day memorable included having only bridesmaids, choosing alternating colored napkins, giving succulents as wedding favors and keeping the entire day outside—with “perfect” weather.

Emma says her favorite part of the wedding was the private first look and vow reading held prior to the ceremony, and that she “wouldn’t change a thing” about the day, crediting its success to her “incredibly supportive” wedding vendors and family.

“Our vendors guided us throughout the process, and our family went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. We are so thankful,” she says. “Weddings are a time to express each others’ personalities and love for each other, so don’t be afraid to use bright colors or do something that isn’t the wedding norm. Don’t forget to make the most of your day because it truly goes so quickly.”

She says she and Jess are most excited to travel in the future (with a trip to Belize in March 2025), start the IVF process to have babies in 2026 and continue spending time together fishing, doing puzzles, shopping, playing with their silver lab, Maeve and lying on the couch with their cats, Peach and Junie.

“It is a breath of fresh air knowing we have each other for life, and we no longer wonder when the right one will come along,” Emma says.

LOVE Letters

Austin Maddie

10 | 17 | 2024

It’s commonly heard that food is a universal language, with the unique ability to bring people together. This mantra couldn’t be more true for Maddie and Austin Kuhn. The newlyweds met working in the restaurant industry; Maddie as a server and Austin as a chef. Evidently, food is a huge part of their lives, and Maddie says it was important this shared passion shined through on their special day.

“We still work together and love food, so when it came to our wedding, we wanted to highlight that, naturally!” she says.

An Asian and Italian inspired dinner station, a gelato cart, personal pizzas and a wide variety of other eclectic options ensured that the food certainly did shine, and stand out.

“Our caterer worked with us on custom menus and food stations,” Maddie says. “We took that food inspiration into our decor, of course.”

Rather than numbering each table, as is done traditionally, Maddie and Austin opted for a fruit or vegetable centerpiece for each table, so guests were assigned to “corn” or “onion” or “cucumber.” Additionally, the seating chart assignments were on charcuterie boards displayed at cocktail hour.

“It was so fun for our guests to see each variation of centerpiece as they found their table, and it literally be the center of conversation,” Maddie says.

Another highlight of the occasion: their cake. A three-layer tower of ivory frosting, perfectly placed orange slices and delicate leaves made their cake (from JK Simply Cake) truly memorable.

Aside from food, Maddie says nature and the couple’s dogs are also extremely significant in their lives, and they wanted this to be reflected in their wedding as well. They had originally toyed with the idea of having their wedding at Austin’s family cabin in Tioga County. However, one of their dogs, Buddha, was diagnosed with cancer, so they needed to accelerate the wedding plans to ensure Buddha could be present.

“We took a lot of time finding the right caterer who would knock the food out of the park and get creative with that. We also focused on incorporating the pups into the day and having such a beautiful and scenic ceremony.”

Their love for nature was expressed through their venue choice—The Mill at Manor Falls— with a waterfall in the background of where they exchanged their I Do’s.

“They have a hidden waterfall down a beautiful nature trail there,” she says. “That was so idyllic.”

The celebration went late into the evening and consisted of delicious food, stunning views, dancing and most importantly, cherishing the time spent with all of their family and friends in one place.

Maddie says guests were sent home with something special: a spice blend created by Maddie and Austin, along with a mini bottle of hot sauce. These are [two items...] they both love and frequently use in the kitchen, reflecting who they are as a couple and adding even more flavor, creativity—and a bit of spice—into their day.

Looking back, Maddie says the wedding was a “beautiful and scenic” celebration of what matters the most to them: their love for food, their love for each other and the joy of being surrounded by family, friends and their beloved dogs. The day was a dream come true, that—just like food—had the unique ability to bring everybody together.

Sara Joey

8 | 10 | 2024

A wedding is far more than just one day. It’s the days, months and years of envisioning, planning and creating together that lead up to it. Triumphs and setbacks are abundant, emotions run high and low, and stress often feels center stage during the wedding planning process.

For Sara and Joey Bowser, the days leading up to their wedding were just as important as their ceremony, and treating them as such allowed them to focus purely on celebrating “love, authenticity and togetherness” on their special day.

“From the very beginning, Joey and I knew that our wedding had to reflect who we are, and the focus was on cherishing every moment together,” Sara says. “Any couple planning a major event knows it can be stressful, so it was essential for me to prioritize relaxation and be fully present as the big day approached.”

Though Sara and Joey officially tied the knot on August 10, 2024 at Lauxmont Farms Weddings in York, their wedding festivities began a few days prior at The Roundtop Castle, an Airbnb nestled atop a hill overlooking the Susquehanna River.

Sara, Joey, their three children, their parents and the bridal party spent the days leading up to the wedding unpacking, settling in, preparing for the rehearsal dinner and spending time together “relaxing” and “soaking in the experience” at the castle.

“What truly mattered the most to us was how we spent the days surrounding our wedding,” Sara says. “On the wedding day, having a home base before and after was perfect for our guests. It created a space for togetherness while still giving everyone room to breathe.”

The theme of cherishing every moment together was evident throughout the entire wedding day, too, starting in the morning with Sara and Joey getting ready side-by-side.

“We chose to get ready side-by-side on the top floor of the castle, and honestly, it was the best choice for us,” Sara says. “The sweeping views of the river and our favorite record spinning in the background framed the intimacy of the moment as we exchanged our private vows.”

She adds it was a “deeply personal and unforgettable experience that made the day feel even more ours.”

Another significant and personal touch to their day, Sara says, was Joey’s father officiating the ceremony—as he got certified specifically for the occasion.

“The ceremony was nothing short of magical. His words brought warmth and familiarity … and hearing his heartfelt emotion touched everyone there,” she says.

She adds it was also important that the guests felt included and like they were a part of Sara and Joey’s journey, so they had a guest blessing circle around the Lauxmont ceremony fountain to create a sense of connection between everyone.

Connection, after all, is the foundation of Sara and Joey’s relationship—along with a vibrant dash of youthfulness and playfulness. Their love and personalities glistened in details like yard games, oversized lounge chairs, fun cocktail napkins—and, most notably, bubbles.

“For the cocktail hour, the setting was whimsical, around the sparkling pool, where floating balloons mimicked giant, shimmering bubbles,” she says. “The ‘bubble’ theme … our wedding, now fondly known as ‘The Bubble Wedding,’ added a playful and elegant touch, making it feel like we were celebrating inside a dream.”

Sara says other characteristics of the wedding that were meaningful included supporting the local community (done so through cupcakes with ingredients from their garden and their friends’ farms) and following a neutral, organic color palette and simple, clean aesthetic.

“It was a balance of chic and casual—whites and creams adorned the space, exuding sophistication. … It felt like the perfect blend of our personalities,” she says. And she adds that Joey, of course, was “involved in every decision made, even the wild Pinterest D-I-Y's I would come to him with. … Grooms are often forgotten in the planning.”

Currently, Sara and Joey reside in Joey’s hometown of York with their children, and she says “on a kid-free night,” they enjoy eating sushi together on the couch or getting a good cocktail (if they’re feeling wild). She says they’re looking forward to a future full of traveling, hiking and paddleboarding together as a family.

“Being newlyweds feels exciting, but we’re both just as excited to see what every chapter to come has in store,” Sara says. “Joey and I couldn’t have imagined a day that felt more true to us. We embraced who we are, created memories with our favorite people and lived in every beautiful moment of our bubble wedding.”

5 WAYS TO ELEVATE YOUR Wedding Attire

Tux, suit, button-up shirt, suspenders with trousers, whatever you opt to wear on your wedding day, here are five ways to level up your fit this year and incorporate trendiness and style into your big day.

SAY HELLO TO COLOR

1

Colorful suits are all the craze this season, and for good reason. Swap the traditional black tux for an emerald green, deep purple or mustard yellow suit to bring style and eccentricity to the aisle. Get creative and coordinate your colorful fit with your wedding’s colors or details. Try burgundy or navy blue for a sophisticated formal look and occasion. Wear a light sage green or blush pink suit to match a more casual, laid-back affair. Looking to add even more uniqueness to your fit? Ditch the solid suits as a whole and go for patterns. Popular patterns trending this year include floral, plaid and paisley suits.

2

BRING OUT THE BLACK TIE

On the contrary of the trend of colorful and bold suits are black ties and all-black affairs. The all-black tux, black tie combo gained popularity in 2024 and will remain a hit in 2025. Black ties are effortlessly timeless and can easily pair with a classic formal black-and-white wedding or a wedding with any other color scheme. The black tie is guaranteed to make you look sophisticated and sleek and photographs well. This combo works well for a contemporary and minimalist wedding.

3

FIND FREEDOM IN THE FOOTWEAR

PERSONALIZE YOUR CUFFLINKS

5

No more are traditional black oxford shoes the standard to wear with suits. This year, find freedom in footwear by choosing shoes that are classy or comfortable to you. Loafers and brogues are becoming more and more popular, even in a variety of colors and textures. Swap black for a shade of brown, guaranteed to be sophisticated but add a pop of style and character to your outfit. Try your loafers in leather or suede to step into trendiness, while maintaining an elegant look. For a more casual or relaxed appearance, go for tennis shoes or even fun socks.

Cufflinks are a classic wedding wardrobe staple. Not only are they worn for practical reasons, but they’re also aesthetic. Traditional ones are usually round and made of gold or sterling silver. Change up your cufflinks and add some authenticity by personalizing them. This can be creating monogrammed cufflinks of you and your spouse’s initials or the wedding date, choosing unique shapes or figures to represent something meaningful or sporting bold and bright cufflinks to match wedding colors or stand out!

4

TRY A TEXTURE

Texture on a suit jacket or even a full suit is becoming more and more popular for wedding attire. While the traditional wool texture suit will always be sophisticated and in-style, experimenting with a different texture is a fresh way to show a touch of personality and add fun and grandeur to the occasion. Explore velvet, tweed or brocade textures for winter weddings. Consider lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton for warmer temperatures.
