If you are like most parents (and students and teachers), this school year has been the hardest one you have ever had. With all the rules, changes in schedules, and new ways of learning, many of the children have had a really hard time learning new concepts. Teachers have done their best, but they were not often given tools that work well. As parents/guardians, you most likely have had to figure out how to work, help with online schooling, and all the stress this year has given us. These things have come together to make this school year not so productive. There isn’t a family I know personally who has come through without problems.
You may want to just “take the summer off” and regroup. That is a great idea, and we all need a break. However, the children’s education is behind and this summer is the one summer that you, as parents/guardians, can’t waste. Regardless, learning and reinforcement doesn’t need to be drudgery. There are many fun things to do to not only keep up your child’s skills but also to get them interested in learning again. Here are some of my favorites:

Visit Science/Art/History museums such as The DaVinci Center in Allentown, The Reading Public Museum, Gettysburg National Park to experience hands-on learning on interesting topics.
Get out and explore nature for an afternoon or even a vacation such as Hickory Run State Park or The Lehigh Valley Nature Gap.
Ask your children what THEY want to learn about and explore that through library books and videos.
Get them out with the many educational camps in the area, including the ones Reading Escapades & Math Explorers have throughout the week. We have added ones for younger kids (ages 4-7) and science-focused ones (ages 9-12) along with our traditional BrainPower Camps (ages 6-10)
