I am Drizzt Do’Urden, once of Mithral Hall, once loved in marriage, once friend to a king and to other companions no less wonderful. Those are the rivers of my memory, flowing from distant shores, for now I reclaim my journey... and my heart. Drizzt and his newest companion Dahlia, a darkly alluring elf, are tracking the perpetrator of a goblin slaughter—one of Drizzt’s former allies, Thibbledorf Pwent, a dwarven battlerager. Pwent awoke from his grave to learn that he’d been turned into a vampire and now hears a voice in his head, urging him to kill. Drizzt calls the great black panther Guenhwyvar to his side as he and Dahlia finally reach Pwent. The “voice” is revealed to be the ghost of Dor’crae, who kills a girl working under his command —thus erasing the only clue to his location. Undeterred, Drizzt, Dahlia, Guenhwyvar, and Pwent pursue... (The events depicted in this book occur during the Neverwinter Saga novels.)
