uan Rodriguez, 28, experienced the hardship of being an English Language Learner growing up. Born in Mexico City and brought to the United States at the age of 3 by his parents, Rodriguez explained the hardship of identifying with both Mexican and American culture. He said it was difficult going to school because of his status as an ESL student. “My first language was spanish, so I was made fun of at times at school for it,” Rodriguez said. “I felt very alone at that time.” Rodriguez is aiming to bring a young and new enthusiastic approach to the Colton Joint Unified School District by running for one of two Area 2 seats. His motivation is to help young people who have a hard time adapting to the English language and implementing more programs that will bring more student success to low income students.
