Second Annual Forum on Paying For College

Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino), in partnership with the San Bernardino City Unified School District, will co-host the 2nd Annual College Affordability Forum and Resource Fair at Arroyo Valley High School in the school theater on Wednesday, December 10, from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. The focus of the event is to inform students of alternatives for saving and paying for college. “With student debt spiraling upward, it’s more important than ever to host this critical event,” said Assemblymember Brown. “We plan to discuss the Middle Class Scholarship, Dream Act, Cal Grants, and other forms of financial aid. In addition, we will be discussing the factors to be considered when choosing colleges, getting admitted and free vocational training information. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore viable funding options for your students.” The forum, moderated by San Bernardino School Board Member Abigail Medina, will include a panel featuring: Project Director Diana Perez from the Central Coast Consortium of the California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP); Program Director Jaqueline White from the Provisional Accelerated Learning (PAL) Center in San Bernardino; and President/CEO Dina Walker from BLU Educational Foundation in San Bernardino. In addition to the forum, a resource fair featuring free financial assistance information will be available within the school theater. Participating vendors include Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown, Cal State San Bernardino, San Bernardino Valley College and the Pal Center. For more information, please contact Ashley Jones by calling (909) 381-3238 or emailing Ashley.Jones@asm.ca.gov. Cheryl R. Brown represents the 47th Assembly District, which includes Colton, Fontana, Grand Terrace, Rialto, the southwest parts of San Bernardino, and the unincorporated communities of Bloomington and Muscoy.
