SBCUSD and Assemblymember Brown to Co-Host 42nd Annual Student Art Exhibit
T
he San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) and Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino) have partnered to co-host the 2015 Student Visual Art Exhibit during the National Orange Show’s 100th anniversary celebration week. Over 200 students from across the District will be recognized for their artistic talent, creativity and vision. The art exhibition will feature all types of mediums, including painting, drawing, acrylic, scratch board, photography, sculpture, ceramic, digital and mixed media. The students’ work will be evaluated by a panel of four judges who will assess the student entries in 18 categories. They will present awards for first, second and third place, as well as, four Honorable Mention awards for each category. Best of Show awards celebrate those top students in Middle and High School with 2Dimensional and 3Dimensional art work. “I’m so honored to partner with the SBCUSD to co-host this very special event. The fine arts and its varied disciplines play a vital role in our community and contribute to a better quality of life. Fine arts can create a vibrant tourist environment that attracts investments and produces jobs. According to the most current statistics provided by the California Arts Council, in 2012, the creative arts industry accounted for 9.7% of California’s workforce (or one in ten jobs). By cohosting this event, I hope to encourage and nurture students who have a passion for a career associated with the fine arts,” said Assemblymember Brown. The opening reception and awards celebration for the 2015 Student Visual Art Exhibit will be held on Monday, April 20, in the Citrus room at the National Orange Show. A brief program will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a reception. The exhibit will run from April 22 to April 26. RSVP by contacting Dan Reed at (909) 891-1031 or Ashley Jones at (909) 381-3238.
