INTRODUCTION

My name is Melkorka, although my friends and colleagues call me Melo. I grew up in a small town in the North of Iceland with dreams to move to an inspiring, big city. And what better place to move to than Barcelona, a city that is rich in culture and has deep roots in historical architecture and design. I have been blessed to have studied interior design here for three years, and although Barcelona is far derived from the place I grew up, I feel that the blend of growing up in nature and starting my professional career in an architecturally stunning city gives me a unique perspective on the form. Hopefully you will like what you see and thank you for taking the time to peer at my portfolio,

CONCEPT
The refurbishing of this apartment has the concept of “Translucent Thresholds” — a vision that has blurred boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. In this transformative process, the aim is to create a home where the lines between inside and outside are artfully connected where materials and colour pallates are carefully selected to dissolve the boundaries further.

CONNECTING EXTERIOR WITH INTERIOR

SLEEPPACK
Innovative Design for the Homeless Community.
The SleepPack originated from an inclusive design course at IED, aiming to create a product at a 1:1 scale catering to the needs of the homeless community. Through extensive research involving direct engagement with individuals affected by homelessness, the concept of the SleepPack emerged. Recognizing the prevalent issue of stolen belongings among this demographic, the SleepPack was conceived as a solution to address this challenge. Where the SleepPack offers discretion since the backpack compartment of the product stays hidden and secure during vulnerable moments of rest. The SleepPack serves both as a sleeping bag intigrated with inflatable mattress, to provide essential comfort, that finally changes into a backpack when rolled up.

FROM LISTENING TO ACTION

CO-WORKING WORKSPACE
Renovation of the Open Space inside IED

CONCEPT
This co-working space is designed around the concept of Yin and Yang bringing together opposite forces - to create a unique and inspiring environment. The main idea about this space is that it is arranged so that the centre is filled with a lively, bustling atmosphere that fuels creativity and collaborations.
The more you move towards the edges around the space, an outdoor space will greet you. A serene area - a possible sanctuary of complete silence

FLOOR PLAN EXPLAINED
The center of the space is as an open floor plan with mobile coworking tables, kitchen area and a space that offers the opportunity to throw events and seminars. As you move away from the center of the space, it gradually becomes quieter and more tranquil - providing a peaceful retreat where you can focus on personal work in a relaxing setting inside private offices, studios and window seatings, and finally an outdoor area.

CONCEPT
The concept of the bus shelter design addresses the existing challenges in Akureyri’s current bus shelter infrastructure. Currently, the city relies on traditional designs, either steel structures covered with glass or singular poles that only displays bus route information. Unfortunately, these setups offer little protection against Iceland’s dynamic weather conditions.
Moreover, the design pays homage to the town’s identity by utilizing locally sourced materials. Driftwood, collected from the shores of Iceland - that forms the foundation of the shelter. Inspired by the concept of cocoons, the design provides shelter for users while waiting for the bus and offers a sense of security and comfort from the weather, while its rotatable which offers better protection from wind by allowing adjustment according to wind direction.

USER EXPERIENCE
The main issue to solve regarding the bus stop in Akureyri was to offer a protection from the weather conditions. The idea is that each individual user will have their own rotating cocoon in order to achieve ultimate protection from wind, rain and snow.

GUIDING LIGHT
Competition for Llum de Nadal a Barcelona

CONCEPT
Our concept aims to guide costumers and people passing by the store to discover Toni Pons shoes throught the magic of light. We pay a homage to the harmonius connection between their shoes and the holiday season by replacing the conventional shoebox with a festive open christmas box, that emerges warm and inviting glow. This not only creates a sense of christmas spirit but also provokes curiosity making it the perfect way to present a cherished christmas gift.
In addition to the presented shoes, we crafted a life-sized Christmas tree using plaster as the primary material. This tree is designed to represent the textures and materials reminiscent of the diverse Mediterranean regions and cultures
