Q Where are you going to keep your Emmy®?

The statue is travelling around Aotearoa New Zealand with our producers after having been celebrated upon its arrival home by the full cast and crew. It is currently on the East Coast where it was welcomed onto the Te Whānau-a-Apanui marae of Ōtuwhare with co-producer Tweedie Waititi.

Q Tell us about the importance of winning an Emmy®?

For all of us it feels a little surreal, but this win is a huge milestone for trans and indigenous storytelling. It’s a recognition of the importance and power of authentic trans narratives, of the incredible creative talent of Aotearoa’s gender diverse people, and the strength of compassionate, collaborative filmmaking in changing lives.

Q What upcoming projects are you or would you like to be working on next?

We have been working on Rūrangi Season 2 which is coming out early 2023! The Māori storylines develop strongly in this next season with the addition of Briar Grace-Smith (“Cousins”) as coshowrunner working alongside Max Currie (“Rūrangi”). We can’t wait to share it with the world.
