Quality Schools – Professional Rates of Pay

PMSA CHAPTER BRIEFING No. 39 Employer Fails to Deliver Accomplished Teacher Employee Network Meeting Required Dear Colleagues Members are understandably angry and frustrated with the PMSA yet again restating their flawed position on Highly Accomplished Teacher. Chapter resolutions called upon the PMSA to honour its commitment to implement the Highly Accomplished Teacher classification consistent with the provision in the current collective agreement. In a breathtaking re-writing of history, the employer is now claiming that when it committed to an accomplished teacher classification in the PMSA Enterprise Agreement, it really meant a lead teacher classification. The Agreement is quite clear in stating: Clause 3.2 b. Allowances – Classroom Teachers ii. SCT Allowance to be increased by 4% (to $3,552 to provide total remuneration of $81,372). iii. In addition, teachers will be able to access a new position of a merit based Accomplished Classroom Teacher (ACT) classification with a total annual remuneration of $83,820 (consisting of Band 3 / 4 salary plus an ACT allowances of $6,000 p.a.). Teachers receiving this ACT Allowance would not be entitled to the SCT allowance. Letter to Employer In an attempt to assist the employer to meet its obligations under the Agreement, IEUA-QNT has suggested that the employer commit to endorsing both the employee document Accomplished Teacher and, in turn, the employees will, with some amendment, accept the employer document Lead Teacher subject to both documents being implemented in 2012 (letter attached). Subject to in principle agreement to the implementation of both documents, your Union has identified two meeting dates on 13 and 14 March 2012. The purpose of these meetings would be to refine the Accomplished and Lead Teacher documents so that implementation could occur this year.

Employee Network Meeting Needed To review the employer response to the employee proposal that both Accomplished and Lead Teacher be implemented in 2012, an Employee Network meeting is called for WEDNESDAY, 14 MARCH 2012. It is anticipated that the Accomplished Classroom Teacher / Lead Teacher issue will be the primary focus of the meeting. However, some initial discussion on the PAR review will also take place. Next Steps PMSA Employee Network representatives are requested to indicate whether they will be in attendance at the IEUA-QNT office or wish to link in by teleconference on the faxback attached to this Briefing.. Kind regards
