CATHOLIC EXPERIENCED TEACHER 6 (ET6) CHAPTER BRIEFING 8 Review Panels Update Transitional Arrangements Extended in Some Schools Apply for ET6 2011 Dear Colleagues Experienced Teacher 6 (ET6) was negotiated in the current Catholic collective agreement as a classification that acknowledges the experienced teacher who significantly contributes to effective teaching and learning in the school. The first round of ET6 applications occurred in 2010 with a large number of applicants being successful in their application. A number of applicants used the full provisions of the ET6 schedule and where they were not initially successful in their application sought a review and were subsequently recommended for ET6 status. All successful applicants from 2010 round will be paid the ET6 allowance from 1 July 2010. Your union has sought an extension of the transitional arrangements for applicants unsuccessful in 2010. Review Panels Completed Review Panels have met and considered review applications in all Religious Institute schools. Employees have been informed of the outcomes in those schools. ET6 Review Panels began meeting before Christmas to consider Diocesan appeal requests. Diocesan appeal panels should have completed review of ET6 applications on or by 2 February 2011. Applicants will then be informed of the outcomes of the panel meetings. Extension of Transitional Arrangements In a letter dated 29 November 2010 your union wrote to all Catholic employing authorities in Queensland and sought an extension of transitional arrangements. Specifically, we sought an undertaking from Catholic employers that unsuccessful applicants from 2010 should be allowed to make another application in March 2011 using their 2010 eligibility. If successful in that application in the March 2011 round, these applicants should receive back payment of the allowance from 1 July 2010.

Employer Response A number of employers are to be commended for their willingness to implement this initiative:    

Catholic Education Office – Diocese of Toowoomba Catholic Education Office – Diocese of Rockhampton Catholic Education Office – Diocese of Townsville Edmund Rice Education Australia

will extend the transitional ET6 arrangements to employees who applied for ET6 in 2010 but were unsuccessful. If successful in the March 2011 round these applicants will be backpaid the allowance to 1 July 2010. 

Catholic Education – Diocese of Cairns

will extend the transitional ET6 arrangements to employees who unsuccessfully applied for ET6 in 2010. If successful in the March round these employees will be back paid the allowance to 21 January 2011. Some other employing authorities may have communicated their decision regarding this initiative directly to their teaching staff. Union Training Your union will be running ET6 training across the state to assist members applying for ET6 in 2011. Attendance at this training is exceedingly helpful in the development of an application and thence facilitating consideration by a panel. Your should contact your Organiser, or visit our website www.qieu.asn.au to see available ET6 training. Time Line ET6 2011 All applicants should have applications submitted to their employer by the first business day on or after 31 March, i.e., Thursday 31 March 2011. For successful new applicants the ET6 allowance is payable from 1 July 2011. Next Steps If your employer has not agreed to the proposed continuation of transitional arrangements for unsuccessful ET6 applicants in 2011,we ask you to hold a Chapter meeting and consider the attached resolutions.

We would encourage any applicant who was unsuccessful in 2010 to make use of the extension of the transitional arrangements and re-apply in March 2011 round. We would also encourage all teachers who are eligible to apply for this status. All eligible members should avail themselves of the opportunity to be acknowledged for the contribution they are making to their schools and if eligible should apply for ET6 in 2011.

Kind regards

TERRY BURKE SECRETARY
