JOINT IEUA-QNT/QTU PROFESSIONAL ISSUES CONFERENCE
CHAPTER BRIEFING No. 1 Professional Issues Conference Challenging Times: Sustaining Professional Practice Dear Colleagues Once again our union is joining with the Queensland Teachers’ Union to bring you an engaging program of professional development. The theme of the conference this year is Challenging Times: Sustaining Professional Practice. The range of presentations will address key issues in relation to the Australian Curriculum and the pedagogies necessary to assist students to make the most of their learning opportunities. The conference will be held on Friday 11th May at the Brisbane Convention Centre, South Brisbane. Teachers are encouraged to seek release and sponsorship from their employers. The Conference The content of the conference is highly relevant to the professional environment of our time. This year we will have three keynote speakers:
Dr Julia Atkin, whose topic is What is powerful learning and what is powerful to learn? Prof. Allan Luke – Seven Years On: the legacy of NAPLAN, ACARA and the Australian Curriculum ; and, Dr Graeme Hall – What’s AITSL up to? How will Principal and Teacher Professional Standards affect you?
Attendance at this conference can be counted towards the professional development requirements for teacher registration.
There will also be one workshop session. Delegates choose one of the following:
What teachers do with the official curriculum – Prof. Allan Luke (QUT), Dr John McCollow (QTU), Dr Annette Woods (QTU); Maintaining early childhood pedagogy in a data driven environment – Prof Sue Grieshaber (QUT); Understanding Poverty – Student resources for learning – Amanda Wicks (Deputy Principal, Morayfield State School); and, How to use achievement standards – Terry Gallagher (QSA).
