CHAPTER BRIEFING – LABOUR DAY 2011 Dear Colleagues Over the past 100 years, Australians through their unions have sought a society based on the premise of fairness and opportunity. Labour Day, Monday May 2 2011 is a time to unite and celebrate the achievements workers and unions have accomplished to ensure better working conditions for workers in Queensland. Celebrate Our Achievements – Labour Day March and Family Fun Day Gather your family, friends and colleagues together for this year's 2011 Labour Day March and Family Fun Day that will be full of activities for union members, their families and community supporters. Families attending the Brisbane Labour Day March will meet outside the IEUA-QNT Brisbane Office (corner of Turbot St and Bowen Street, Spring Hill) on Monday, 2 May from 9:00am for a 10:00am start. We will then march together to the RNA Showgrounds. Before the march commences at 10:00am, there will be refreshments, a shady spot and toilet facilities available during the short wait. Come along and celebrate with your union. IEUA-QNT t-shirts will also be available for members. IEUA-QNT members marching in Brisbane are invited to the Family Fun Day at the RNA Showgrounds. Free food and drink will be provided along with family activities, live music and stalls, and much more. Labour Day Activities Across The State There are a range of Labour Day celebrations taking place across Queensland this year. IEUA-QNT members will march and celebrate in Barcaldine, Bundaberg, Cairns, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Mackay, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville Chapter executive members are asked to use their member networks to invite IEUA-QNT members and their families to Labour Day activities. Please consult the attached flyer which advertises the various activities taking place across the Queensland on Labour Day. Labour Day Activities Across QLD BRISBANE March begins 10:00am on Monday, 2 May from the corner of Wharf and Turbot Streets. The March will proceed to the RNA Showgrounds where celebrations will continue into the afternoon with entertainment for the whole family. BARCALDINE March starts at 10:00am on Monday, 2 May in Oak Street, leading to the showgrounds for the Tree of Knowledge Goat Races in line with the Tree of Knowledge Festival beginning Friday, 29 April. The march will proceed to the Toowoomba Central Bowls Club where a BBQ and bowls day will follow from midday.
