CHAPTER BRIEFING No. 30 Ballots Going Ahead 16-18 June 2010 Members Encouraged to Vote Dear Colleagues The member consultation conducted by IEUA-QNT ahead of a proposed balloting process identified broad support for the provisions negotiated in the current round of collective bargaining. Where the outcomes fall short of member expectations these matters are clearly matters for the next round of collective bargaining negotiations. Ballot Advised Catholic employing authorities have now issued a notice to ballot the proposed Single Enterprise Collective Agreements next week. Voting will take place from 16 to 18 June 2010, closing no later than 3.00pm on 18 June. The ballots will be conducted for two Single Interest Employer Agreements (SIEA) – thus all votes from schools will be counted as one pool for each SIEA. If approved by a majority of those who vote the agreements will be lodged to the FWA for approval. If approved by FWA, the agreements would be operative and legally enforceable seven days after approval. The agreements have a nominal expiry date of 30 June 2012. Request to Chapters Chapters are requested to identify a joint returning officer to conduct the ballot along with an employer designated returning officer and a scrutineer to observe the count of the ballot papers. The returning officers will need to forward the outcome of the ballot to IEUA-QNT Branch Secretary Terry Burke on (07) 3839 7021 and Queensland Catholic Education Commission (QCEC) Employment Relations Executive Officer Colin O’Neill on (07) 3336 9305. Encouragement to Vote IEUA-QNT encourages members to vote in the upcoming ballot to determine whether the proposed Single Enterprise Collective Agreement is endorsed. Members are commended on their collective resolve which has achieved quite significant enhancements to wages and conditions which will now be subject to ballot. Kind regards
TERRY BURKE SECRETARY
