TIPS FOR WRITING LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

1. Include your full name (no initials), street address and daytime phone number – some newspapers need these for verification purposes and will not print the letter if they are not included. 2. Keep it short and to the point – simply writing what aspect of the proposed legislation is of most concern to you and why it concerns you is an effective way of getting your message across. Writing no more than 100 words will also help to ensure it is read and increase the chances of it being printed. 3. If you are sending you letter via email, include the letter in the email itself and not as an attachment. Some email systems will not accept attachments for security reasons. Including the letter in the email also helps to increase its chances of being read.
