You wish to - perfect your knowledge by completing a demanding, full-time course under the auspices of outstanding designers and top-level industry leaders - develop part of your collection and produce accessory prototypes with the participation of internationally renowned companies - confront your creative vision with a marketing and business approach IFM’s FASHION DESIGN POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM is a highly selective international program taught entirely in English. It brings together designers from all over the world, with degrees from fashion, art and design schools such as Antwerp Academy, Central Saint Martins, Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Ecole Duperré, ESAG Penninghen, FIT, Gobelins, HEAD, La Cambre, Parsons the New School of Design, etc. The FASHION DESIGN POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM / Major in Accessory offers state-of-the-art teaching provided by top faculty, experienced designers and professional experts. Drawing on IFM’s privileged links with the most renowned luxury companies and couture houses, it is 100% in touch with the reality of the professional world, ensuring a perfect balance of creative talent and business acumen.

We teach fashion designers the art of working within limitations, open the minds of tomorrow’s managers to the complexities of design, and work closely with major actors of the sector to imagine innovative projects and prototypes.

#3: COMMUNICATION & ART DIRECTION PORTFOLIO CONSTRUCTION & INTERVIEW COACHING

PROTOTYPES

The program consists of workshops and masterclasses, all coached by professional experts, providing a natural and immediate link with the sector, as well as a perfect match between the skills of the designers and the needs of the market.

Learn how to communicate your creative universe. Set up a design brief as an art director. Develop the capacity of working in a team. Make digital presentations at the end of each workshop in front of a jury of professionals. Study how to adapt your communication to any actor of the creative chain. Transform your portfolio into a truly profes­sional tool. Prepare yourself for interviews and meet all the major recruitment actors in the business.

Every year, companies actively parti­ cipate in the creation of accessory prototypes with the designers of the FASHION DESIGN POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM / Major in Accessory: Shoes with A.TESTONI, BALLIN PROJECT, BERLUTI,

The workshops enable the students to become familiar with a variety of different fields in a short lapse of time and to work with major players in the industry (manufacturers, managers and designers...) in order to embrace all the dimensions of a career in the fashion.

#1: PERSONAL BAG COLLECTION DESIGN 2D, 3D & PROTOTYPES Design a personal collection of over 25 leather goods (bags, small leather goods, belts...). Articulate a strong statement and develop ideas into a full collection. Discover and understand the technical constraints. Establish materials, patterns and ­technical data sheets for the models. Follow up the production process of the prototypes with partner companies.

#2: COLLECTIONS FOR BRANDS (BAGS & SHOES) DESIGN & PROTOTYPES Create collections following briefs given by partner brands. Embrace the values and the creative dimension of a brand. Visit a production unit. Ensure the development and follow-up of prototypes in companies. Acquire mastery of all parameters ranging from pure aesthetics to high technology. Present all the research in front of brand representatives.

#4: THE BRAND & MARKETING BRAND NAME & PRODUCT STRATEGY Explore brand concepts. Analyze the strategy of partner brands. Organize a balanced offer through collection plans with a view to launching the designed products.

#5: CREATIVE STRATEGY & BUSINESS COSTING & BUSINESS PLAN Balance creativity, technical constraints and production costs. Analyze the cost of the developed prototypes. Draft a letter of intent of an innovative fashion concept. Define a strategy and develop a financial plan with IFM Management students.

And bags with CÉLINE, CHANEL, CHLOÉ, CHRISTIAN DIOR, DELVAUX, LANCEL, LOUIS VUITTON, MARC JACOBS… Know-how on production techniques enable designers to create in a more realistic way without forfeiting inventiveness. Examples of the prototypes developed by the designers may be found in the catalogue published on IFM’s website.

WORKSHOPS MANAGEMENT / DESIGN Joint workshops allow IFM designers and managers to work together and cover topics such as creative identity, marketing strategy, brand image and the launch of an innovative fashion concept.

INTERNSHIP « During my time at IFM, I was impressed by the number of projects we completed in only one year. I personally designed sunglasses, a handbag, a pair of shoes; each time with different brands, some of which were very prestigious. You are constantly encouraged to work on yourself, and provided with ideal conditions to hone your skills. »

The Program includes a 6-month intern­ship within a company. It ­reinforces contacts between designers and professionals in the industry.

PROFESSIONAL PERSPECTIVES IFM provides considerable opportunities to accelerate your career in the fashion and design sectors. During the year, you are individually assisted by the Recruitment and Career Service Department which organizes meetings with Human Resources Directors of renowned fashion companies, couture houses and ­international headhunters. ADMISSIONS In order to apply for IFM’s FASHION DESIGN POST­GRADUATE PROGRAM / Major in Accessory, the candidate must have a 4-year BA (Bachelor of Arts, or the equivalent according to international standards, from an art/fashion or design school). Exceptions are possible for high-level creative profiles reinforced by extensive professional experience. Fluent English is required. In order to select students from all around the world, a specific three-stage admissions process applies: 1- Candidates submit a written application file which enables the candidate to present his/her creative ­universe, achievements, previous experience, professional objectives and motivations.

 2- Shortlisted candidates are requested to submit a creative project according to a given assignment. 3- The admissions jury reviews all the material and selects candidates for a final round interview (phone or online). The application form can be downloaded via IFM’s website. There is a non-refundable 100 euros ­application fee.

INSTITUT FRANÇAIS DE LA MODE offers specialized and vocational postgraduate academic programs and executive education which break down barriers between management and design, and nurture an entrepreneurial mindset. IFM is also a renowned center of expertise and research in areas such as textile, fashion, luxury and design. Ranked number 1 fashion school in France in 2015 by the Business of Fashion, IFM welcomes 180 students and 2,000 executives each year. Our location along the banks of the River Seine at “Les Docks, Cité de la Mode et du Design”, a platform for showcasing design, places us at the center of innovation and creativity in Paris.

TUITION FEES Thanks to the sponsorship of the corporate members of Cercle IFM, need based scholarships are a­ vailable, based upon financial criteria. In 2015, 55% of IFM’s FASHION DESIGN POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM students received a scholarship, which covered up to 70% of their tuition fees. IFM scholar­ships may be combined with other types of ­scholarships (CROUS, etc.).

NETWORK IFM is a state-recognized institution of higher education and a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles, the organization that unites France’s top business schools and higher education institutions. IFM is also a founding member of IFFTI (International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes), an organization that gathers over forty of the world’s leading educational institutions specialized in fashion management, design and technology. The FASHION DESIGN POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM is registered at level 1 (Master level) with the Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles (RNCP). This registration entitles the non EU students who have graduated from the program (internship included) to obtain an Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour (APS - Temporary Stay Authorization) allowing them to work in France for a year.

The fees for the 2016-2017 academic year are 12,500 euros. This covers teaching and prototype ­development with manufacturers and fashion houses, transport and accommodation for all course trips.
