Photorejuvenation Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive light treatment which uses short bursts of high energy light to effectively treat skin discoloration including the redness associated with rosacea or capillaries; brown spots from sun damage, birthmarks, or age; even stretch marks can be lessened with IPL treatment. IPL is also used for treating fine wrinkles and as part of combination therapy to keep acne at bay. IPL uses an adjustable range of wavelengths to treat different conditions. This prevents the use of excessive energy and damage to non-targeted layers of skin. IPL treatments typically involve 4-6 visits spaced 3-6 weeks apart; the procedure takes about 20 minutes and involves no downtime. IPL infrequently causes some side effects including mild sensitivity during treatment and redness directly after.

IPL Hair Removal IPL hair removal is typically performed in a physician’s office. Your treatment begins by shaving away the hair in the treatment area. A cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated, and you may be given dark glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the bright light. The pulses of light are applied to your skin, damaging the hair follicles and their ability to re-grow hair. You may feel a slight stinging with each light pulse, though most people tolerate the treatment without local anesthesia. When the gel is removed, much of the hair is wiped off with it. The remaining hair in the treated area falls out over the next week or two.

Laser Hair Removal
What’s is IPL Hair Removal? IPL hair removal is a safe, non-invasive treatment that permanently reduces the number of re-growing hairs. Light pulses are used to damage hair follicles, and impair their ability to grow hair. Damaged hair follicles are eliminated, with excellent long-term results.
How does it work? Highly controlled pulses of light are emitted with the IPL handpiece from a smooth, transparent Light Guide and are selectively absorbed by the hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages the re-growth potential of the follicle – all without damaging the surrounding tissue.
Which hair and skin types can recieve IPL hair removal? IPL hair removal is effective on most hair with pigment: black, brown and red hair can be effectively reduced. IPL hair removal is safe for most skin types.

Neuromodulators BOTOX® and Dysport® are considered by many in the field of cosmetic medicine to be “wonder drugs.” BOTOX was approved for cosmetic use in 2002 by the FDA, but has been used therapeutically for over twenty-five years. BOTOX and Dysport are types of drugs called “neuromodulators.” Neuromodulators relax the muscle and prevent its activity. This helps slow the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Neuromodulators are used cosmetically to achieve a more restful and smooth appearance of the areas treated. For cosmetic purposes, they is generally administered around and between the eyes and in the forehead. The procedure is quick, taking no more than fifteen minutes and there is no downtime. The effects develop within three to five days and will typically last from three to six months. Occasionally, a touch-up may be required and will usually take place two weeks after the first treatment to ensure that the product has achieved its maximum benefit.

Facial Fillers Like the name implies, fillers simply “fill areas of soft tissue to flatten wrinkles, fill creases and create a full, youthful contour to the face. Injected fillers are also used to help fill out skin depressions and some types of scars. They are also frequently used to create a fuller, more lush appearance to the lip. The most common facial regions for treatment with injected fillers are the deep smile lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds), the lips, the circles under the lower eyelids, the cheeks, and the jaw line in front of jowls. Fillers can also be used to reduce scars from acne or trauma. Injectables alone are not always sufficient for severe surface wrinkles on the face, or for the multiple vertical lines around the lips. Therefore, Dr. Neiman may suggest a combination of treatments including neurotoxins, fillers and laser procedures.

Chemical Peels A chemical peel is used to increase the exfoliation process of the skin. It helps improve the texture and reduce the appearance of dull skin. It may also give it a more youthful glow. Chemical peels may improve fine lines, wrinkles, aide with mild scarring, improve the appearance of acne, age spots, freckles, and other skin imperfections. There are several different strengths of peels: superficial peels, medium peels, and deep peels. An aesthetician may administer a lower strength acid peel, but higher strength peels require a physician.

Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that revitalizes dull skin. At the time of treatment the device is lightly pressed against the skin, which causes a gentle abrasion through a fine crystal spray that breaks up dead skin and other imperfections. Microdermabrasion functions as an exfoliator with suction that removes imperfections, buffs the skin, enhances skin texture, and improves circulation and lymph flow. The treatment serves to partially or completely remove the top layer of the skin. It diminishes scars and dark spots while working to remove sun damaged skin. The procedure is virtually painless and will leave skin glowing and feeling refreshed.

Skin Care A basic skin care routine is essential for optimal results. It is important to understand it is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week regimen. There are several basic steps to follow. First, it is necessary to cleanse the skin morning and evening. Next you need to exfoliate; most people tend to skip this step in their weekly routine. This is the one step you will notice an immediate difference. You may use a scrub with small grains and gently scrub the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Do this on a weekly basis, but it is important to understand not to over exfoliate the skin. Next you need a good moisturizer, even if your skin is oily. Apply the moisturizer to your skin while it is still moist. Finally, apply sunscreen. Never leave home without it! Sun damage is the number one cause of wrinkles. Our practice offers multiple medical-grade skin care products to treat all types of skin conditions – talk to our team to determine which one is right for you.
