Updates on SCOME Achievements COLLABORATION The beginning of the term focused on not only creating strong dynamics within the SCOME International Team, but making sure to broaden these dynamics to the SCOME-related Program Coordinators. While developing the annual working plan, it was quintessential to involve their expertise in developing the SCOME work throughout the term, so as to bring more the outcome-based approach to every project we develop. On the other hand, the SCOME International Team is happy to share with you the list of Webinars we are going to implement this year. As input we received from members, their interest is more directed towards attending Medical Education related webinars, so as to understand topics related to the IFMSA Global Priorities and debate on global Medical Education issues.
PARTICIPATION AND REPRESENTATION The first 3 months are always an important phase in IFMSA to start establishing a strong relationship between the international leadership and the NMOs. As it isn’t different for SCOME, the Regional Assistants were working on fostering an environment of constant communication with the NOMEs, and collecting data on SCOME across NMOs through the Baseline Assessment: 102 NMOs have participated from the 5 regions, enabling us to analyze their experience in SCOME and their expectations from the International Team. Not only it will help us view better how to support NMOs in their SCOME activity, but most importantly build the global institutional memory of the Standing Committee through our SCOME worldwide global report.

Meeting SCOMEdians worldwide AFRICAN REGIONAL MEETING 2019, MALAWI The African Regional Meeting, this year took place in Malawi Lilongwe on December 16th to 22nd. It has been a nice experience for the participants. I sadly didn’t attend it personally, but I’m glad we have got amazing and experienced facilitators for the SCOME Sessions. I’m talking here about Patel, Egle and Kudakwashe and I will profit this channel to address them my gratitude. So We had the participation of 6 NMOs and most of the participants were new to SCOME, so the results were beyond the expectations as they have been introduced to some key topics.Now I have the full confidence that our participants have got back well skilled and motivated to impact positively their main medical education.
AMERICAS REGIONAL MEETING 2019, BRAZIL The AmRM 2020 took place in the south of Brazil, in the city of Curitiba. It was amazing! For the SCOME Sessions, we had a different approach this year: all sessions would be developed in active methodologies and we would take the time to explain what method was being used. Then, participants would receive training not only on the session's content, but also on the science behind education. Also, one of the sessions was about teaching methods and summarized everything. That was a big change and participants gave a lot of positive feedback! A lot of good ideas came around, new educational activities, new international collaborations and new bonds!I leave Curitiba with a warm feeling in my heart and a strong will to keep up with these awesome Medical Education Advocates!

From the Global Arena of Medical Education December witnessed a very important consultation meeting/symposium:Â Global Symposium on Health Workforce Accreditation and Regulation 2019. IFMSA represented through the LME and LWHO attended the meeting held in Istanbul, Turkey from 9-12th December. Co-organized by The World Health Organization (WHO), Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMGÂŽ), and the Global Health Workforce Network (GHWN), the symposium, serving as a high level consultation of stakeholders reviewed health workforce-related accreditation and regulation, policies and implementation strategies for the accreditation of health worker education institutions and the regulation of health workers to advance quality and sustainability. Due to its relevance to our global priorities- global health workforce and meaningful youth participation, an abstract reflecting IFMSA's work on student's involvement in accreditation processes was presented. IFMSA also actively participated in breakout sessions and reported on an important breakout on the future of health workforce accreditation and regulation processes. Aside from that, many side meetings with relevant partners like AMEEMR, WFME, WHO etc. occurred allowing much progress on IFMSA's work with these partners. As follow up, a platform linking health regulatory and accreditation bodies was established and meeting outcomes will be shared with all participants. IFMSA is also preparing to be present at the 5th Human Resources for Health convention next year.

Hi dear SCOMEdians of the world! my name is Ruben Visser and I'm the NOME of IFMSA-the Netherlands for the term 2019-2020.22 years ago, I was born in the Dutch city of Gouda. To whom that might sound familiar, yes the city of the cheese. Beside Gouda cheese we have great stroopwaffles as well in Gouda and definitely one of the reasons I go back there during the weekends. During the week I live in the harbor city of Rotterdam where i'm a medicine student and a philosophy student since 2015.I came to IFMSA and SCOME in the beginning of 2018 so I had been studying for a while. Since high school I've been interested in education and teaching. I've been teaching myself for quite a while and I really enjoy it. When I started med school I got involved in medical education by teaching practical medical skills to fellow students as a job. I liked is so became more involved in the organisational side of things as well. A friend of mine at that time was a local board member of IFMSA-Rotterdam and via her I found my way to SCOME. After my first NGA SCOME sessions I was sold and really enjoyed it.Something that made me really proud during my term as a NOME was when a local SCOME-member of IFMSA-Leiden came with me to the GA in Taiwan, came up with an idea for a project, planned it and now is executing the project together with a really enthusiastic group of people. One of my goals was to have more ideas and projects come from the local members as they are experts in their own education. Now I have a SWG led by a local member executing her idea.My first international IFMSA event was at the Morocamp 2018. During NGA's people who've been to international events talked about all those people and knew all those names. IT members sounded really far away and it seemed like people that existed but I would never know. Then at Morocamp I already met so many SCOMEdian who were IT or would become IT. I got excited about SCOME even more, went to EuRegMe, got excited even more and became a NOME. Now I talk to other people about all those IT members and international people I had the pleasure of meeting. In the eyes of my local members I then see the same thoughts I had when I joined SCOME.To them I always say that you get from IFMSA what you give to it. So if you if you dare to put the time and effort in, you won't regret it and get really great experiences and friend from it in return. Panda Hugs,Ruben

Hey there ! my name is Safaa Alsafi, 20 yeras old, 3rd year medical student from Sudan and current NOME 2019/20 from MedSINSudan. Since my first day in SCOME I found myself deeply inspired by the work we do and by the potential we have to influence the educational process. a deeply rooted passion and irresistible will to educate and participate in the development of medical education as I feel it's my own and every single student responsibility to contribute and have a say in shaping health systems that we'll be leading and working in. the urge that our traditional medical education doesn't prepare us to meet our communities' needs , to understand and influence health policies, and to face future challenges , also the increasing need to reconsider how we're being taught? how much we're prepared to be health leaders and professional doctors, makes it crucial to remind undergraduate medical education and collaborative work with students to positively impact clinical care and medical education through the enhanced integration of medical student roles into care delivery systems. I assure that SCOME is the place where you have to go to learn , share and advocate for medical education issues. my journey with SCOME started 3 years ago, full of personal experiences and growth that helped me to widen my perspectives and develop on a personal and professional basis , the more I give the more I have for myself . this is the beginning of my term but seeing my national team , local officers and members interested, optimistic and willing to cooperate , makes me more dedicated to make the most out of it and bring success and flourishment to SCOME to reach our ultimate goal of advocating for the medical education we want . I can tell reaching out and approaching national bodies that work on medical education in Sudan is the most important and crucial achievement that I did since the beginning of my term . Throughout my work in SCOME I had very good times, I laughed , traveled , visited , learned , and made memories and friends. it's a lifetime experience that adds so much in many different aspects. My message would be if you feel like there’s something out there that you’re supposed to be doing, then stop wishing and just do it, do it with much conviction and passion. we can do anything as long as we have the passion, the drive, and the support our medical education needs us to be open minded , well prepared and ready to take actions toward impact. so feel the passion and come prepared for education and fun.
