FALL CONGRESS 2020
EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN HEALTHCARE Participant's Guide
Bilingualism
This edition of the Fall Congress, organized by Medical students in Quebec, will be held both in French and in English. In fact, half of the online conferences will be offered in French and the other half in English. This is done for the sake of equity and inclusion.
Introduction This month of October, the IFMSA-QuĂŠbec 2020 Fall Congress is THE global health event you cannot miss. It is the perfect place to discover what IFMSA-QuĂŠbec is and the involvement opportunities it offers, as well as participate in its development by voting for the bylaws that regulate
the
organization
that
represents
ALL
Quebec
medical
students.
This time around, the theme of the congress revolves around Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Healthcare. It is therefore an opportunity to learn more about the various and diverse groups of patients we will be encountering all along our future professional career as healthcare providers and the importance of inclusiveness and equity in health.
We produced this guide with the aim of gathering all the information relevant to your participation in order to promote the smooth flow of the event. In the meantime, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at
president@ifmsa.qc.ca
We are looking forward to having you with us,

Note From the Executive Committee
Dear IFMSA members,
IFMSA-Québec is glad to invite you to its annual Fall Congress which will be held online for the very first time! This year’s theme is “Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Healthcare”.

In the wake of the social movements fighting for equity, diversity and inclusion that have gained momentum in the media and in the streets recently, it is now more than ever our responsibility, as future professionals of the health, to become aware of the realities experienced by our future patients in all their diversity in order to offer them the most appropriate
care
and
approach
possible.
Discrimination
is
a
barrier
to
accessing
adequate healthcare and a perpetrator of the social gradient in health that we all must fight as future doctors. We have the responsibility to ensure that our own educational and healthcare system is fair and equitable for all. It is also essential to promote inclusion in the selection process of health programs in order to ensure a diversity among health professionals, which reflects the population to be served.
The current circumstances brought everyone around the world to rethink the format and organization of their events, which has posed quite a challenge. Though we are facing hard and uncertain times, the Organizing Committee is making the most of these circumstances by providing an opportunity not only to IFMSA-Québec members, but to all members from IFMSA around the world. We are proud and grateful for all the work OC has done to provide this chance to share and connect with members worldwide.
We really hope you can join us on
October 10th at 10 am EST
on Zoom for this
incredible event that our incredible OC has been organizing.
See you on Saturday,

Opening Conference 3

STAND UP FOR INDIGENOUS HEALTH ‘Stand Up for Indigenous Health’ is an immersive, simulation-based tool for teaching the Indigenous social determinants of health to health care providers. By learning about these complex social factors using an immersive approach, students will feel connected to the stories of Indigenous people in Canada and their lived experiences of resilience, poverty, racism and other forms of social inequity. This, in turn, can promote the cultural empathy needed to provide safe intercultural health care.

His talk on Gender and gender x will consist of looking at the medical field under a microscope to see what aspects of the journey impact the “user/patient” within the medical system. Terminology and a thorough understanding of gender will be introduced, and Tristan will extrapolate on his own personal journey going through the system as a transman in the Canadian medical system.
