ABOUT peru Known as the land of all bloods, beautiful Peru offers a unique experience for its diverse landscapes, climates and languages. It is the third largest country in South America and is blessed with an extraordinary culture and biodiversity. Travelers come from all over the world to know the wonders that our country offers. Brief History The territory that is known today as Peru was once home to the Norte Chico civilization, the Inca Empire, and the Spanish Empire. The nation declared independence from Spain on July 28, 1821.Today, Peru has an interesting mix of cultures: 45% of the population is Amerindian, 84% of the country speaks Spanish, and 13% of the country speaks Quechua (especially in the Andes regions). 82% of the population consider themselves Catholic.Peruvian. Gastronomy There are over 400 Peru national dishes that have their roots in Peru, the most famous of which is ceviche peruano. Ceviche is basically a fish salad, marinated in lime and mixed with garlic, onions, cilantro, limo chile pepper, corn, and sweet potatoes. Other famous dishes include pollo a la brasa, lomo saltado, aji de gallina, cuy, and seco.

Weather Peru is a country that features a diversity of climates. In fact, Peru has 84 of the identified 103 climates. Lima, a coastal desert, never really makes it outside of 60-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Cusco, a high-altitude Andean city, offers all four seasons in a single day; the nights are chilly (35-40 degrees), the mornings bring spring, in the afternoon summer arrives (75-85 degrees), and the evening brings a return of winter. Tourism opportunities The number one tourist attraction in Peru is Machu Picchu, hosting almost 3,000,000 visitors each year. Cusco was recently ranked the #1 city to visit in Central/South America by Travel+Leisure magazine. Iquitos (where the Amazon is born) is another major tourist destination and is known as one of the top places in the world for exotic bird-watching. In Southern Peru, you find Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable freshwater lake in the world, and Colca canyon, which is over two times deeper than the Grand Canyon of the United States and is home to the Andean Condor (a bird with a 8-10 foot wingspan). On the northern coast lies Mancora, which is home to some of the most famous surfing waves in the world.

ABOUT trujillo Trujillo is a city in coastal northwestern Peru and the capital of the Department of La Libertad. Is also known as the "City of Everlasting Spring" and is considered the "Capital of the Marinera", a traditional dance in Peru. It has sponsored numerous national and international cultural events, and has a lively arts community. Current festivals include the "National Marinera Festival", the Trujillo Spring Festival and the International Book Festival, which is one of the most important cultural events in the country. Trujillo is close to two major archeological sites of pre-Columbian monuments: Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the ancient world, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986; and the temples of the Sun and Moon (the largest adobe pyramid in Peru). Trujillo is a city with a very stable and warm climate throughout the year, so the high season isn’t very marked. Some of the attractions that can be found in and around the city are: Huanchaco: A little more than 17 km. from the city of Trujillo, 25 minutes by car, is the beach of Huanchaco, where you can enjoy for just S / 10 a nice ride on the famous caballitos de totora.

Tourist Attractions in Trujillo If you really want to get to grips with Trujillo and take in most of the main attractions, you’ll ideally need at least three full days. All of the main tourist attractions (apart from the historic center itself) lie outside the city, but there are still plenty of things to do in the urban area. If you’re a fan of churches, welcome to paradise. Trujillo’s cathedral dominates one side of the Plaza de Armas, while other religious buildings — such as the Iglesia del Carmen and Iglesia de la Merced — are scattered throughout the surrounding streets (throw a stone and you’ll probably hit one — theoretically, of course, don’t get yourself arrested). If churches aren’t your thing, you might enjoy snooping through Trujillo’s colonial- and republican-era casonas. These mansions represent how the other half lived back when cannons and campaigns were all the rage; try the Palacio Iturregui (Pizarro 688), the Casona Orbegoso (Orbegoso 553) and the Casa Ganoza Chopitea (Independencia 630). Opening hours vary. As for museums, Trujillo and La Libertad certainly can’t compete with Chiclayo and the Lambayeque Region further north (home to some of Peru’s best museums such as the Brüning Museum and the Tumbas Reales de Sípan). What the city does have, however, is a good Archaeology Museum (Junín 682), the charming Museo del Juguete (Toy Museum; Independencia 705) and the quite frankly disturbing Zoological Museum (San Martín 368). In terms of festivals and events, keep an eye out for free marinera dance performances and paso horse displays on the Plaza de Armas (some Sundays). There’s also a major marinera festival in January and the annual Festival Internacional de la Primavera (Spring Festival) in late September and early October. For more tourist info and maps etc, visit the iPerú office on the Plaza de Armas Trujillo.

srt venue The Antenor Orrego Private University The Antenor Orrego Private University, is located in the city of Trujillo in the La Libertad Region (Peru) and was created on July 26, 1988 by the law of the Congress of the Republic taking the name of the illustrious Peruvian intellectual Don Antenor Orrego Espinoza. Hello lovely public health enthusiasts! Welcome to the journey of discovering the leader within you, in its entire potential to change the world: a PHLT! My name is Catalina, I am the SCOPH Regional Assistant for the Americas, and I am thrilled to also be one of your trainers for this SRT. CATALINA GONZALES

HEBER OLIVA Dearest Public Health Advocates, Global public health movements and declarations of the past 30 years have emphasized people centered care and equity. Yet, despite youth special needs, we have not systematically benefitted from such approaches. Today, universal health coverage (UHC) a framework emerging as a unifying post 2015 agenda for global health provides an unique opportunity for renewed attention to meeting the health care needs of YOUTH through the strengthening of health systems. During those 3 days, we will develop skills, together, to be the advocates that will make a difference at the local, national, regional and international levels. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question, idea or if you just want to say hi, Looking forward to meeting each of you in Trujillo, Peru Warmest Orange Hugs

TMET

PATRICIA ESPINOZA Dear participants of the SRT PERU 2020: I am very happy to be able to participate in this opportunity within the SRT PERU 2020 by facilitating our beautiful TMET workshop. Rest assured that we will have fun and learn from everyone, we will make our sessions a team that will continue to develop our medical education capabilities. Hoping to meet each one soon. See you in Trujillo ❤

TMET is an interactive workshop that allows medical students across the world discuss the flaws in their education systems and find solutions for them. Students are the center focus of medical education and hence, they have an insight which can be used to improve the quality of the curriculum, teaching and learning process. Through this workshop students also get introduced to topics like, motivation and empower, advocacy and team building and basic training skills. These topics would definitely give them the tools to integrate topic like evidence based medicine, teaching and learning theories and curriculum design to better understand their role as agents of change. TMET helps a student to grow on a personal as well as on a professional level, and reminds them of their fundamental role in their training process as medical students and that they should be involved in their formative process.

Dear SCORAngels. Welcome to this crazy and beautiful journey that you are about to undertake in this SRT. This is and will be your safe space, in which you can release your essence, without fear of being judged, this will be the place where you can be yourself and all opinions will be respected. Surely you will be wondering what is heat? And well, without a doubt, the name of the workshop you already know by heart, HIV Educations and Advocacy training; But this training goes beyond an HIV course, it goes beyond understanding the disease and all its pathology. This workshop is designed for you to see beyond the disease, so that you understand the cultural and social components that surround HIV, so that you understand why there is still a lot of ground that goes forward to eradicate stigma and discrimination. This training is designed so that you can see another side of a disease that, from its beginnings, marked vulnerable groups within society and isolated them from daily life. Welcome again, I invite you to bring an open mind, to come with desires for knowledge, but above all I invite you to come with the energies and the desire to change the world.
