Brother Jimmy’s first opened its doors in New York City back in 1988.

Inspired by such legendary Southern slow-smokin’ BBQ joints as Wilbur’s BBQ of Goldsboro, NC, Lexington BBQ #1 of Lexington, NC (the BBQ capital of the world), and Bullocks BBQ of Durham, NC, Brother Jimmy’s goal was to bring real BBQ up North.

Brother Jimmy had gone to school in Durham, NC and on his return to his native New York, he realized that Northerners just didn’t know what real BBQ was. Those “Yankees” thought good BBQ was just meat with lots of sauce slopped on top of it.

The plain truth is that real BBQ flavor is smoked right into the meat. True BBQ is part of a tradition that has been carried on for centuries and that has been perfected over time in the South.

So, with a commitment to providing authentic flavor and experiences, Brother Jimmy began his enduring mission of educating customers on what real BBQ is all about.

Brother Jimmy’s BBQ is unlike other franchise programs. It takes the best barbeque smoking techniques from the South and adds the excitement of a high-energy sports bar to create an appealing Southern-style restaurant and bar — right smack in the middle of the city or suburbs.

When people step inside Brother Jimmy’s, they immediately feel they’ve entered a true Southern roadside BBQ shack. Greeted by friendly staff, they find themselves surrounded by lights, signs, paintings, license plates and other memorabilia that cover every wall. Wood flooring and “rustic” decor items add to the down-home, casual atmosphere. The bar and restaurant areas are typically busy and loud, with country, Southern and modern rock music piping in through the loudspeakers, and sports events displayed on the many television screens throughout. Everybody loves Brother Jimmy’s BBQ, whether young or old, singles or families with children (and hey, kids under 12 eat for free!).

...for Down Home Cookin’ Of course, our customers really come for the food. The Brother Jimmy’s authentic BBQ menu features beef, pork, and chicken prepared in a variety of ways to satisfy everyone’s tastes — whether that’s Northern Style, Southern style, or with our special dry rub seasoning. Our selection of proprietary sauces is inspired by Southern BBQ, and available in original, mustard, chipotle, blazin’ and Carolina styles.

But we don’t stop there. Brother Jimmy’s has all the trimmin’s, too: baked beans, black-eyed peas, candied yams, collard greens, fries, macaroni and cheese, veggies, biscuits and gravy, and more. Then, we wash it all down with one of our creative, refreshing concoctions: Carolina Cooler, Plantation Punch, Charlotte Tea and other drink selections are served in mason jars just to add another down-home touch.
