How It All Began Possibly the largest collector of antique potbelly stoves? One of the biggest gatherings of live music venues? No matter how you look at Potbelly Sandwich Works, it’s clear we’re more than just a sandwich chain. And it’s no wonder: our beginnings had little to do with food, and a lot to do o with community.

P Potbelly is looking for franchise owners who will fr sshare in our history and vision; we have always been focused w on promoting entrepreneurial spirit, team-building, and community involvement. Are you ready to do the same in your very own Potbelly location? The origins of Potbelly Sandwich Works date back to 1977. Our first location didn’t start as a sandwich shop at all; it was a small antiques store run by a young couple. As part of his antiques business, coowner Peter Hastings originally restored our namesake potbelly stoves. But thankfully for us, he also came up with an interesting a add-on to the business: making a sandwiches for their customers. By 1996, Bryant Keil, now our Chairman of the Board, had visited and discovered that special sicians u m l ca lo s rt Potbelly appeal, and came P o p sup Potbelly proudly tto appreciate the great HOT ssandwiches that were being served to a growing group of fanatical customers in what was now the neighborhood sandwich shop. Since then, Potbelly has grown to over 200 stores, in a number of different towns and metropolitan areas. Regardless of where

they are located, Potbelly Sandwich Works locations are invariably lively, music-filled, local hangouts. Our food is made fresh to order, and has been described as irresistible, satisfying, even addicting. And, it’s all served up quickly by hardworking, friendly associates in our eclectically decorated stores which are characterized by worn wood, tin ceilings, tile floors, and our quirky little seating lofts. There’s really no other way to describe our locations, except to say they are all distinctly Potbelly.
