BARBARA UCCELLI | SELF-PORTRAIT IN THE MIRROR Milano, Alzaia Naviglio Grande | venerdì 17 aprile, ore 19:30 Scrivere un'autobiografia per ricordare cosa è stato. Cosa è stato di noi fino ad ora. Quello che è stato, che è si vissuto, quello che si è scelto e che si è scartato. Raccontare una storia che è reale e immaginaria insieme, perché nulla di ciò che la persona ha pensato di vivere, ha sospirato o immaginato che potesse avverare, si allontana dalla persona stessa.

Così il ricordo reale si mischia al ricordo immaginario per dire di una persona che tutto questo è l'intero. E la storia si scrive sulle pareti vetrate, fino a riempirle di parole che si rincorrono e si sovrappongono a colorare di nero tutta la stanza. E nella stanza nera quello che è stato della persona non si può più decifrare, ma il colore pesante e definitivo sarà segno tangibile che tutto è trascorso e che non può essere modificato, ma solo narrato ancora e ancora. Gli artisti hanno bisogno di farsi autoritratti per essere certi di essere vissuti, nonostante tutto l'uomo ora è in grado di comprendere di essere solo un caso, un essere completamente futile che deve giocare il suo ruolo senza ragione. Così diceva Francis Bacon. Modificazioni spaziali, ma anche un coinvolgimento diretto del pubblico che può decidere come approcciarsi, guardando da dentro o da fuori, leggere, avvicinarsi o allontanarsi dalla storia che piano piano si forma sulle pareti vetrate.

BARBARA UCCELLI | SELF-PORTRAIT IN THE MIRROR Milano, Alzaia Naviglio Grande | venerdì 17 aprile, ore 19:30 Writing an autobiography to remember what was. What has happened to us up until now. What was, what was lived, what was chosen and what was thrown away. Telling a story that is real and imaginary at the same time, because nothing that the person thinks he or she has lived through, has yearned for or has imagined could happen, moves away from the person him or herself. And so the real merges with the imaginary, to speak of a being that is all here. And on a glass wall, where the transparent is the sign of exchange between the inside and the outside, writing one’s own biography is like freezing time, allowing the words to be read forwards or backwards. In this way, while history is written on the walls – until they are filled with words that run after each other and are layered on top of each other, mixed together – what belonged to the person can no longer be deciphered, but the heavy and definitive colour will be a tangible sign that everything has passed and cannot be modified, only narrated time and again. Artists need to make self-portraits to be sure that they have actually lived, despite everything. Man is now able to understand that he is just there by chance, a completely futile being who must play his role for no reason. So said Francis Bacon.

ROSY ROX | PLEASE RETURN TO YOU Milano, Alzaia Naviglio Grande | sabato 18 aprile, ore 19.30 L’artista al centro di una scena vuota e semibuia è imprigionata in una rivisitazione di un attrezzo da tortura della santa inquisizione. Unica illuminazione una luce sagomata tonda che nella parte iniziale avrà un diametro di illuminazione ristretto che coincide con il lucchetto che blocca l’intera scultura. La luce si aprirà di diametro con l’avvicinarsi dello spettatore alla scena e rimarrà aperta per tutto il tempo del dialogo simbolico. Ogni spettatore sarà parte della performance; potrà prendere una delle chiavi disposte al lato della scena e tentare di aprire il lucchetto.

Alla performance prende parte uno spettatore per volta. Ogni spettatore tenterà di aprire il lucchetto, una sola è la chiave che riesce ad aprire, a quell’apertura coinciderà la fine della performance. Una critica alla società dei consumi, l’urgenza di chiavi di lettura che portino verso l’atro, un invito ad essere in questo mondo “liquido moderno” (Zigmunt Bauman) “custode dell’altro” (Emmanuel Lévinas). Una partecipazione alla sofferenza che ci invita a non essere spettatori, ma entrare in un sentiero più profondo che ci permette di guardarci più affondo e reciprocamente.

Con un “teatro” essenziale e scarno, riportare in scena quell’empatia e quell’immedesimazione con le tragedie della vita che danno un senso alla necessità di restare umani. Uno spettatore che reagisca in termini di consapevolezza e di capacità di azione. Un invito a immaginare altri modi di convivenza sociale.

ROSY ROX | PLEASE RETURN TO YOU Milano, Alzaia Naviglio Grande | sabato 18 aprile, ore 19.30 The artist at the centre of an empty, dim stage is imprisoned in a revisiting of a torture device used in the Spanish Inquisition. The only illumination is provided by a round, moulded light that to begin with illuminates only the padlock that locks the entire sculpture. The spotlighting widens out as the spectator moves closer to the stage, and the lighting stays wide for the entire duration of the symbolic dialogue. Each spectator will be a part of the performance; he or she is at liberty to take one of the keys at the side of the stage and attempt to open the padlock. One spectator at a time participates in the performance. Each spectator attempts to open the lock, but it can be opened by one key only, and the performance comes to an end as soon as the lock is opened. It is a critique of consumer society, the urgency of interpretative keys that lead towards the other, an invitation to be in this “liquid, modern” world (Zigmunt Bauman), a “custodian of the other” (Emmanuel Lévinas). It amounts to a form of participation in suffering that invites us not to be spectators, but to set out on a deeper path that allows us to look at ourselves and each other in a more nuanced way.

With an essential, stripped-back “drama”, the artist brings onto the stage that empathy and immediacy with the tragedies of life that give some sense to the necessity of staying human. The spectator should react in terms of awareness and capacity for action. It is an invitation to imagine other modes of living together in society.

GIULIA GALLO | RECORDING MAPS. LOGBOOK Milano, Alzaia Naviglio Grande | domenica 19 aprile, ore 12.00 Recording maps è un atto di mappatura dello spazio, inteso come una commistione di suoni, rumori, accadimenti e masse che costituiscono l’ambiente vissuto dal singolo individuo. L’opera è un’installazione-performance durante la quale l’artista si fa testimone attivo dello spazio, ricreando una nuova visione di esso attraverso un codice di segni appositamente ideato. La sua decodificazione è frutto dell’arbitrarietà e della personale esperienza del fruitore. Il luogo risulta dedotto nel suo complesso. La dimensione temporale e quella spaziale si ritrovano dunque sulla mappa, esattamente come avveniva in ambito cartografico prima del Quattrocento. L'intento è di realizzare una sorta di diario di bordo in un preciso arco di tempo. Lo spazio della performance sarà fermato e trasposto attraverso registri di lettura che permettano di lasciarne una traccia fisica immediata. Durante l’azione, ciò che accadrà nello spazio verrà tradotto tramite due tipologie di codici, quello scritto e quello segnico. I due livelli di traduzione della realtà si incontreranno e convivranno in quanto tracce su un unico supporto. Esso sarà costituito dai teli occhiellati normalmente utilizzati per la copertura di imbarcazioni; la superficie dialogherà con lo il luogo ricoprendolo e dando forma ad uno spazio di lavoro e di studio degli avvenimenti.

GIULIA GALLO | RECORDING MAPS. LOGBOOK Milano, Alzaia Naviglio Grande | domenica 19 aprile, ore 12.00 Recording Maps involves the mapping out of space, which is interpreted as the melange of sounds, noises, events and masses that constitute the environment experienced by each individual. The work is an installation/performance during which the artist bears active witness to the space, recreating a new vision of it through a specifically conceived code of signs. Its decodification is randomised and is based on the personal experience of the individual engaging with it. The place is presented as a whole. The temporal and spatial dimensions appear, then, on the map, exactly as used to be the case with cartography before the 15th century. The intention is to produce a sort of logbook in a precise period of time.

The space of the performance will be frozen and transposed using registers that make it possible to leave an immediate physical trace of it. During the performance, what will happen in the space will be translated using two different codes – one written and one sign-based. The two levels of the translation of reality will come together and exist together as traces on a single surface. That surface will be constituted by the type of tarpaulins with eyelets that are normally used to cover boats; the surface will enter into a dialogue with the site, recovering it and giving form to a space from which to work and to study the events.
