The latest additions to the Pacific Links Championship are all proud fathers that share the theme of unique and touching stories on the impact that golf has on fatherhood. Jay Haas?playing career includes nine PGA TOUR wins, including three PGA TOUR Champions major titles. His 2017 season has already included two top-five and five top-25 finishes. Despite his numerous playing achievements, Haas?most memorable experience on the course came in 2015 when he was given the opportunity to select his son Bill Haas as a captain?s pick for the Presidents Cup - United States team. Bill could not have made his father more proud than by clinching the winning point for the Americans in the final
match on Sunday. Bill was not the only Haas son to play professionally. Jay Haas Jr. made the PGA TOUR in 2006 and spent time on the Web.com Tour from 2007-2011. Taylor Funk grew up in his father Fred?s footsteps, joining him on the road in his journey around the world while his dad accumulated eight PGA TOUR wins. Taylor recently finished his junior season of golf at the University of Texas, where he carded a career-low 65 at the NCAA Franklin Regional. Fred Funk?s PGA TOUR Champions career has included nine victories including three major titles. His 2017 season already includes three top-five finishes to date. Paul Goydos accumulated two wins in his PGA TOUR career to go along with four PGA TOUR CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE

for his two young daughters. Since then, Goydos has juggled Champions victories to date being a full-time single father including the 2016 Charles on TOUR. The Pacific Links Schwab Cup Championship. In 2009 (the first year golf was played as a sport in the Summer Games) and 2013 the representatives from British Columbia took home every gold medal available, in individual and team competitions for both males and females. With the announcement of the male version of their golf squad this year, the coaches and managers of BC's Summer Games Team look to put
together the first component of maintaining that unblemished record. The team was chosen by a British Columbia Golf selection committee of 7 members following several provincial selection camps. shot out of the pine straw on the par 5 13th hole in the final round and, well, you probably remember the shot, too. ?I almost quit when my vision started getting bad,? says Douma, a 46-year-old Creston, B.C. resident. ?I was very frustrated and I thought I was frustrating my group all the time having to locate my ball. I was watching the Masters and Mickelson?s famous shot on 13 and I just said, he went for it, no matter what the obstacles were in his way, and I thought, I have this obstacle and I have been going hard at it ever since.?

blind golfers. Next month at his home course, Creston Golf Club, Douma will captain Team North America versus Team Rest of the World in the third playing of the ISPS Handa Vision Cup, a Ryder Cup-style competition featuring
six Americans and six Canadians. Team Rest of the World has three players from England, two from Scotland, three from South Korea, one from Israel, one from South Africa, one from Italy and one from Australia.

has been great.? Vision Cup competitors play in one of three categories. B1 players have no light perception, B2 players have five per cent vision and B3 players have about 10 per cent vision. ?Some of the B1 golfers coming are 25 or 30 handicaps,? Douma says. ?They are pretty impressive with what they can do.? Douma is a B3 player and plays to a handicap of 13 or 14 at Creston Golf Club, where he generally gets in two or three rounds a week. ?On our men?s day I play with a group of about 20 guys and they are all familiar with my situation,? he says. ?They are really good about helping me out, although I do hear the occasional blind joke.? One of the Team North America players from Pennsylvania has a seven handicap. Players use sight coaches or guides to help them around the course. Douma says the biggest challenge comes on the greens. ?I would definitely say putting is the toughest because you know
how tricky the terrain can be and all that. I used to be a solid putter and I still have my moments where I am draining some putts, but I honestly don?t see the hole or a lot of breaks. I just hit it at the hole and get lucky sometimes.? Douma hopes the Vision Cup can raise awareness about visually-impaired golf and help convince more people to play. He especially hopes to convince more blind women to play. Of the 24 players scheduled to compete in Creston, only one is a woman. rocks?, Woods said at the time of construction in the late 1960s, ?with a towering mountain running into it, my choices were certainly restricted. I was sure the mountain was not going to move, so it was up to me to fit the course in around it?. The result is a big golf course. A well played round can take you 6.5 miles. There are many memorable holes but the most stunning has to be the 462-yard par-four 5th. Hit your blind tee shot from an elevated chute and watch the ball disappear as it drops to a fairway 50 feet below with bunkering left and right. Association & Reflection Bay Golf Club. The GJAC was established in 1978 under the leadership of Joan Teats from the state of Washington. The first tournament was held at Tumwater Valley Golf Course CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE

in Olympia, Washington. Eleven teams participated including Alberta, Arizona, Br it ish Colu m bia, Idaho, Northern California, Northern Nevada, Oregon, San Diego, Southern California, Southern Nevada and Washington. The second year teams from Colorado, Mexico, Montana and Utah joined the event. In 1985 Hawaii joined this prestigious competition along with New Mexico/Sun Country in 1990. Wyoming completed the 18 team event in 1991. Each team consists of the top four girls from each state/province/country. The tournament is a 54-hole competition with teams counting three scores and throwing out the team?s highest score. Being chosen to represent your province/state/country to play in the Girls Junior America?s Cup is one of the

Located in Taylor, BC, 60 km north of Dawson Creek, and 12 km south of Fort St. John on the world famous Alaska Highway, this 18 hole par 72 layout has a links-type feel. A tough test of golf at 7,141 yards from the back tees, its generous fairways are well protected by bunkers and fescue rough. Long days make late afternoon a great time to come out. The facility here is headed by PGA of Canada Executive Professional & General Manager Dave Callu m who, since the fall of 2008, has championed many positive changes at Lone Wolf.
Often referred to as ?the event headquarters of the north?, it now hosts the bulk of the Corporate and Charity fundraising events for the region. He and Head Professional Lar r y Ram st ad take great pride in their junior program, which has grown from seven children to 130 earning recognition from BC Golf. This year they have gotten a sponsor (Kikinaw Energy Services), and all Juniors play free when golfing with an adult. dealt with it as he dealt with everything in life; with dignity, perseverance and humour. He recently enjoyed his 67th birthday with all of his extended family members, and over the past few months had a chance to visit with many old friends. Cec was well CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE

known for his golfing ability over a playing career that saw him represent Canada as an amateur, win the BC Open as an amateur and then compete professionally on the Canadian and Asian Tours back in the 1970?s. In the late seventies he settled into the life of a Club Professional and then stepped in to Club management, but not before winning the Canadian PGA Club Professionals?Championship in 1986. He served the memberships of Regina GC and Quilchena G&CC as Head professional before serving as General Manager at Myrtle Point GC, Wascana G&CC, and Vernon G&CC. For 20 years Cec directed the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society tournament fundraiser in memory of his friend, Constable Bruce Denniston, who died before a successful bone marrow transplant donor
could be found. ?The Denniston? was a popular event that attracted celebrities each year along with a host of amateurs who returned year after year to honour the memory of Bruce and raise funds and awareness of the need for the Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Cec Ferguson was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame of British Columbia in 2011. His last career was the one he might have enjoyed the most ? Coach driver for International Stage Lines. He looked forward to being on the road in his 50 passenger coach and entertaining his passengers along the way. Cec had the ability to analyze situations and find a way to achieve a positive outcome, and make and keep friends along the way. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
