EDITOR'SDESK In si de Th i s Issue As we bring you the first issue of The Scorecard for 2018, we're starting out in a similar fashion to where we left off in 2017. Once more we are saddened by the loss of one of the most dedicated and influential people in golf in British Columbia. Longtime junior golf promoter and one of the most tireless givers in the game, Harry White, left us on January 2nd of this year and we have reflections on his life and career in the game from Brad Ziemer on page 36 and one of Harry's most successful disciples, Chris Crisologo on page 50. Almost fittingly, shortly after Harry's passing and Chris' heartfelt tribute, the stellar SFU
Men's Golf Team leader captured the prestigious South American Amateur which you can read about on page 48. Continuing with success stories, Surrey's Adam Svensson captured his first Web.com Tour title in January (page 41) and is well on his way to finally gaining that coveted PGA TOUR status. We have wrap-ups on the year that was in 2017 from John Gordon of Golf Canada, starting on pages 12, 23 and 30. Aside from news of two BC Golf legends, Gail Graham and A.V. Macan gaining entry to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame (page 55), we also have news and deals from exhibitors in the upcoming Vancouver GOLFEXPO throughout the magazine you'll want to look into. And last but not least be sure to check out the Instagram Contest now underway by British Columbia Golf on page 21.

The on e quest i on I get asked of t en i s ?w hy di d you choose golf ?? Here?s the long story that got me hooked on competitive golf, one that seems very fitting. Golf really isn?t the most affordable sport in the world. The rules of golf were so foreign to me when I
started I surely wouldn?t be able to remember any of them. There were too many of them. On top of that, there was etiquette to the game. There was just no way I would be able to play the game. That all changed when I met Mr. Harry White. Click Her e for full story

?Probably one of my favourite golf courses on the LPGA Tour was Columbia-Edgewater (in Portland), another of his designs,? Graham said of Macan on a conference call with reporters. ?I wondered why it suited my eyes so well. And we also played on the Legends Tour at Inglewood in Kirkland, Wash... So we have a link, though I didn?t really realize it until I started reading his bio. Obviously I knew he was the designer of Kelowna Golf & Country Club, but it sure ties things together and explains my love of that type of parkland golf course that is treed and just very picturesque to the eyes.? Macan?s designs include the likes of Royal Colwood in Victoria and Metro Vancouver courses like Shaughnessy, Marine Drive, Richmond and University. Graham never met Macan.
That would have been tough. Macan died in 1964, the same
