INSIDE THIS ISSUE In this month's issue of the Scorecard, our cover story (page 12) features this year 's BC Bantam & Novice Boys Champion, Alex Zhang. He picked up the gold medal for both categories as he completed the 'double' the day before his 13th birthday by firing a final round 67. He would win the Bantam by 8 shots, the Novice by 10 and was the only player in the event to finish under par at 7-under for 36 holes. Along with Alex's triumphs we also have the wrap ups from the girls Bantam & Novice (page 38), the Boys and Girls Juvenile (pages 14 and 16) and the Senior Women (page 26) & Men's tournaments (page 24). Brad has a couple of other stories that are sure to be of interest including the news of the venerable Peace Portal GC PG 8 | AUG 2021

being sold to local businessman Joe Haley, a former member of the Canadian Men's Rugby program on page 22. Brad also checked out Greenwood Golf putters, being handmade by two BC men. The putters feature a solid one-piece wood head and are more than just a decorative club - they perform on the greens as well, you can see that on page 40.. Of course you can also read Brad's latest version of his popular BC Golf Notes on page 20. Keeping up with news on the recently reopened Sagebrush Golf Club, our Doug Hastie took some time between running BC Golf Championshipsto drop in and play the course and came away with some fascinating thoughts on the 'reborn' layout. Read his write-up on page 32.

Bearing The Heat During the recently completed BC Juvenile Championships held at Pitt Meadows' Golden Eagle Golf Course, one of the spectatorswas decidedly dressed a tad warmly for the almost 40 degree heat at the time. Plenty Of Practice Pays Off For Matthew Wilson Winning 2021 BC Boys Juvenile Championship It wasn?t that long ago that Matthew Wilson was having trouble breaking 100 in zone tournaments on Vancouver Island. My, how things have changed in a relative hurry for the 15-year-old from Nanaimo who is the new B.C. Juvenile Boys champion. READ COMPLETE STORY HERE PG 14 | AUG 2021

Burnaby?s Luna Lu Beats The Heat And Her Competition To Win B.C. Juvenile Girls Championship The heat was on in more ways than one for Luna Lu in the final round of the B.C. Sagebrush Offers A Pleasant Reminder To ?Play? At Golf Sagebrush. The word can conjure different emotions and visuals. For me it brings up Western films... a lone figure going across an expansive desert with nothing but the occasional train track or homestead coming into view. Perseverance, grit, toughness, and beauty come to mind. Driving down highway 5A from Kamloops towards Sagebrush - the golf course, the land and the sky brought me to this state of mind.
