INSIDE THIS ISSUE
In this issue of The Scorecard , our cover story on page 12 looks at the inaugural Indigenous Golf Championship British Columbia, as it is set to take place May 28 - 30th this spring at Nk'mip Desert Canyon Golf Course in Oliver.
British Columbia Golf, in partnership with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and the Osoyoos Indian Band owned Nk?mip Canyon Desert Golf Course is thrilled to convene a championship that will both celebrate and inspire current and emerging Indigenous Golfers in the spirit of sport. Former president of British Columbia Golf, T?esots?en
(Patrick Kelly), has long had a dream of this sort of event, saying, "The championship provides an exciting opportunity for Indigenous
golfers to walk together in the joy of sport, camaraderie, and oh yes, a bit of spirited competition!" You can also gain insight into the event from the perspective of Nk'mip GM Dave George in an interview with Brad Ziemer found on page 16, and from tournament chair Christina Proteau on page 20. Port Alberni's Proteau, a multiple winner at both the provincial and national levels, will also be competing in the event and shares her thoughts regarding her Indigenous ancestry and competing as one of the top female amateur golfers in BC and Canada for a number of years. Of course we have a lot more for you to read and enjoy throughout the magazine. In the meantime, please enjoy your golf and stay safe.
