COMPLETION AND FINAL REPORT OF THE PROJECT

REFERENCE:

Próiect Ref: IND/ 59340 (0)

TITLE OF THE PROJECT:

Construction of a permanent school Building, St. Joseph's Primary School,

LOCATION OF THE PROJECT:

St. Joseph's Primary School,

PROJECT HOLDER:

. Andhra Pradesh, SOUTH INDIA. REASONS FOR THE ORIGIN OF THE PROJECT: •

St. Joseph's Primary School was started in the year 1919 with a few children and in course of time the strength of the school has gone upto more than 800 students. • -~~« mnning in Asbestos roof (a roof with sheets) sheds.

During the summei u ... . fficult to conduct classes; the Asbestos roof generates heat and is prone to fire accidents also, of course, very rarely.

Because the school was very ancient and primitive and run in the Asbestos sheds frequently getting damaged by the heavy rains and excessive heat in the hot summer the parents are not happy to send their children to the school.

During winter and rainy seasons also it is very inconvenient to run the school in an uninterrupted manner. Also since this área is on the hilly área we experience floods certainly once a year. Therefore we have been replacing the roof at least once in three years.

The villagers have come forward to render their physical labor at free of cost besides constructing site to construct a school building.

As this School is offering free education, we were not able to collect any fee from the students. Also a majority of our children are poor and cannot afford to pay anything.

PROCESS (HISTORY) OF PROJECT SANCTION: With all the above reasons we applied a project request to you for the construction of permanent school building on 13* November 2007. After studying the project request with kind heart you sent on 20th November 2007 a standard questionnaire as well as the specifíc for education purposes in order to study our project. We furnished and sent the answers and clarification and this enclosure reached you on 18,h February 2008. We thank you for reading with great concern. We received a from you MANOS UNIDAS on 27th February 2008 along with some more clarifications before submitting our project request to the Standing Committee for its final approval of our Project Request. For which we furnished and sent to you. We carne to know that the Standing Committee considered supporting our project for a total amount of 48.387 Euros which could be paid in one installment. As you asked us in the letter on June 2008. We have sent all the bank details to send money. We received on 15™ July 2008, COLLABORATION AGREEMENT FOR THE EXECUTION OF DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS BY AND BETWEEN PRESDDENT OF MANOS UNIDAS AND US „and on which we signed and sent you for the concern, support and love towards us, and we.are bound to the terms and conditions of the agreement. We received another letter from you dating on 20th October, 2008, stating that a group of people from the city of JAÉN with great enthusiasm collected the required funds for our project. We thanked the people of city of JAÉN through a letter dated on 14* November, 2008. Verily we appreciate them with gratitude for their love towards us and our school children. We express our heartfelt thanks to them for their charitable service of donating to our project. According to the sent bank details the money was to the Bank into the account of the Bishop's House and from which we received money and started the construction according to the submitted engineer's plan and estimation. On 6th September, 2008, we received the amount Rs. 30, 45,462/- from the Bishop's House account through the Indian Overseas Bank and started the construction. This was assured through the receipt - letter from our Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Poola Anthony pm 5th December, 2008.

05ABĂ?.20{? Because there was delay in communication, you furnished the details of date of transfer and amount of transfer through a letter dated on 16th March, 2009, asked us to send receipt duly signed and dated to the Office in Spain and also bank's exchange rate statement. This letter was sent to our Bishop's House and we got it from our Bishop's House and I got the Indian Overseas Bank receipt from them after knowing the contents of your letter. IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT / WORK CARRIED OUT: We wrote a letter to you saying about the construction work and its progress along with photographs on 24th February 2009. When the work of construction started and in progress people of the village, children and parents were happy. When the construction was in progress we sent a report to you with the restrains. With the restrains, despite, we decided to continuĂŠ the construction work of the first floor. But the money was not sufficient to complete the total construction work. We were praying for you unceasingly and constantly that in the next meeting the Board of members and Truste^s would discuss positively to sanction the requested amount to complete the construction of the school building. We do not have other financial sources. We have not applied to other agencies for this project request. We solely depended on your financial assistance from Manos Unidas. In the previous letter, we already sent you the estimation, budget plan for other half of the construction. We explained you details of necessary information and restrains for requesting financial assistance to complete the construction of the school building. Optimistically and positively, we were waiting with prayer and hope for funding aid from you, Manos Unidas to complete the other half of the construction and to realize the project. We expressed the problems and restrains that we faced during the construction in a letter as you asked us to mention. Really, we thank you for increasing the amount with your generosity by understanding our problems and restrains; you sanctioned the extra amount of 14.700Euros to complete the construction of the first floor. On 26th October 2009, we received the amount from Bishop's House Rs.10, 20,880/-. Meanwhile, we sent the audit report of the First Installment and made request to give second Installment by which we could complete the construction. I, SR. E. Catherine SSA, Superior and Head Mistress of St. Joseph's Convent and Primary School, Pedda Kottala, implemented the project. We implemented and realized the project as soon as we received the amount from Manos Unidas. We could solve the problem of the badly damage of the Primary School by Constructing New Building. With the limited resources available we were unable to construct the permanent school building but now we could construct the permanent school building with your great financial help. We implemented the project according to the given and submitted engineer's plan of construction. We realized the project exactly and accordingly.

CONSTRAINTS BUILDING:

DURING

CONSTRUCTING

PERMANENT

SCHOOL

While implementing and realizing the project we carne across some difficulties and hardships. 1. Scarcity of Masons: during the construction of the Permanent school building, the government also sanctioned housing scheme to the dalits. Masons showed great interest on them and importance to them. 2. Price - hike of materials: while we were constructing permanent school building, the rates of materials Iike cement, steel, etc. were gone high. 3. Lack of Materials: we were unable to get the materials of construction due to the government housing scheme. Business people showed much interest to dispose the materials to the government housing scheme for high rates and good income and turnover. 4. Unavailability of labor: the labor people were not available to our construction work for the fixed rates. Because of Housing scheme the labour used to go for government work. Therefore the labours were not available. 5. Demand for more wages: the labour people started to ask more money as they get in government housing scheme. The wages were beyond our estimations. We struggled a lot to complete the permanent school building to the estimation and agreement. 6. Shortage of water: while construction was going on the water was not suffĂcient. We purchased the water for construction by the tankers to complete the construction of permanent school building. Still there were other problems. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES MET: > The construction has given a lot of relief to the children for their comfortable study > Construction of the permanent school building gave privacy and security for the children. > We could avoid pressure from the parents and public and government officials by constructing permanent school building. > We could provide one of the basic needs of the children by constructing permanent school building. > Our New School Building helped to avoid the uncleanness, over crowding, dirty smell and pollution. > Our New School Building gave good atmosphere to concĂŠntrate on the studies. > Our New School Building assured good health of the children. > Our New School Building gave happiness to the children and parents.

> Our New School Building is promoting better education and concentration on the studies. > Our New School Building is inculcating better discipline and character formation. > By having Our New School Building we are able bring out the best from the children in the studies. > By constructing our New School Building we promote health and hygiene in the school. > By having our New School Building parents are happy to send their children and take serious action on their studies. > By constructing Our New School Building the government officials are extremely happy to allot and to show helping nature to the school. SOCIAL IMPACT : After completion of the construction of permánent school building the people are prideto send their children to the school. This school building gives the radiance on the faces of parents of the school children. After looking at our new school building people brought their children from Government residential schools and Hostels. Government residential schools and hostels are known for pucca accommodation. But people are now showing much interest to join their children in our school than government residential schools and hostels. Current fashion is that rich people join their children in the private and corporate schools for the corporate education. By looking at our permánent school building people are flocking to join their children in our school than in the corporate schools and corporate hostels for the corporate education. Presently, talk to the village is well built of permánent school building This gives them lots of Ímpetus and impression to join their children in our school.
