about

iglo+indi

Set in the majestic landscape of Iceland, iglo+indi was founded in 2008 by Icelandic designer Helga Olafsdottir. With a fresh take on children’s fashion, Helga brings to life a manifestation of creative play, creating clothes that redefine the union of comfort and style, without compromising on quality - representing the very best that childhood has to offer. iglo+indi’s philosophy is simple: Playful and Practical. Helga designs each stylish piece with comfort and quality in mind, promising bursts of colour and graphics that engage children’s imagination and positively influence the way they look, feel, play and explore the world. iglo+indi is a success story that continues to spread across every corner of the globe. It continues to be praised by the international media for its boldness and creativity. Iglo+indi is Iceland’s largest children’s fashion brand and with its unique proposition it keeps on growing. Iglo+indi is represented internationally and operates two fully-owned flagship stores as well as an increasingly successful web store. iglo+indi continues to create exciting collections that can be viewed in showrooms in Reykjavik, Stockholm, Paris, London, New York, Antwerpen and Sydney.

the story

behind

iglo+indi Being a mother of three creative children, I find myself constantly picking up their creative work. Some you keep… others get tossed away. One day I was going through piles of artwork my oldest daughter had created. There was one drawing that drew my attention in particular. It was a picture of two small creatures; a boy holding hands with his little sister in an open magical landscape. The little children were both wearing hooded coats as if to seek shelter from the wind and the cold. There they were, independent, cozy and content in a world of their own. We named the boy Ígló and his little sister Indí. Birth of a brand — the magical world of iglo+indi. A note from iglo+indi’s founder, Helga Olafsdottir: "My Nordic roots and love of Iceland inspire the trendy styles I design for children. I also focus on durability. Every piece is created with comfort and practical play in mind. I encourage parents and children to play with our collections, spark their imagination and be the creators and artists we all truly are.”

fabrics, prints and

embroidery Every iglo+indi garment is made from fabrics of the highest quality, making it comfortable and stylish but nevertheless resistant to wear and tear. The brand’s main fabric is the softest blend of cotton and spandex/elastane, which ensures that the garment retains its shape after washing. Among other fabrics are viscose, wool and lace for dressier items, woven cotton for boys’ shirts, fleece and downfilled jackets for outerwear. In addition, a selection of iglo+indi’s most popular styles is now available in organic cotton. Embellishing details such as ruffles, bows, stripes, elbow patches and unique prints provide the finishing touches to Ígló&Indí’s signature style. All prints are made by the iglo+indi design team. The two characters iglo and indi, their friends and animal companions are illustrated in a unique way; there is a story behind every character. The prints are hand-painted, drawn in pen and ink or with a Wacom tablet. Some are a combination of various methods.

Introducing iglo+indiʼs Organic Cotton Collection iglo+indi proudly presents an addition to its product range: an organic cotton story consisting of adorable wardrobe options. All made of GOTS certified organic cotton fabric. From SS15 and on, iglo+indi’s most popular and classic styles will also be available in organic cotton. The first story features a grey panda print; the girls’ pieces are also adorned with yellow ruffles and bows. The organic cotton story adheres to iglo+indi’s brand philosophy: creating playful and practical clothes combining maximum comfort, style and creativity. iglo+indi loves nature and acknowledges the world’s shared responsibility to respect and protect the environment. Introducing garments made from organic fibres is one of the steps it will take towards building a sustainable and environmentally friendly business.

flagship stores iglo+indi operates two successful flagship stores in Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital: at Kringlan, Reykjavik’s largest shopping mall and on the trendy Skólavörðustígur street, located in the heart of Reykjavík’s old city centre. The flagship stores are designed to be an immersive experience synonymous with creativity, play and exploration; to invite children and parents alike to experience the story of each collection complimented by various trendy accessories and gifts. The collections are beautifully presented as stories of iglo+indi’s magical world. Both of the flagship stores include a designated children’s area decorated with the beautiful graphics the brand is renowned for, books, toys, and other things associated with the brand. There, the children immerse themselves in the magical world of iglo+indi while the parents browse the collection with ease, thereby creating an enjoyable shopping experience for the entire family.

Ígló’s ode to his baby sister

Pom-Pom

Who is sitting under the apple tree? Who doesn’t know yet how to count to three? Who will soon be able to play with me? That’s my little baby sister.

Wish me luck and wish me well, while I hop the long, green, slopes of life. I’m nervous and brave. (Is that even possible at the same time?) Let me be safe.

Who has a nose that’s as small as a pea? Who is always pointing her finger at me? Who might grow up and want to sail the sea? That’s my little baby sister. How would I live without her? Where she is, I want to be close. I even love her when she punches my nose. What makes her the cutest little rose?

Lulu

Who fell of a chair and has a big red scar? Who cries when she has to sit in the car? Who is always near and never ever far? That’s my little baby sister.

My dream within a dream. Lulu, Mariko, Milli and I We fly, we fly, high up in the sky. I sleep with eyes wide open Bows and birds in my hair. My tummy filled with feathered wishes I float above all there is... up, up, up! Awake I sleep.

Who speaks all day but doesn’t say a word? Who looks at me like I’m some great big nerd? Who makes sounds that I have never heard? That’s my little baby sister. How would I live without her? Where she is, I want to be close by. I even love her when she makes me cry ... oh why? Come, sweet sister, our limit is the sky!

Skjóni Skjóni the horse I’m not one to boast but I’m stronger than most I trot, I canter, I gallop, I walk You might not believe me but sometimes I talk Neigh! Neigh! Neigh! Say it with me! Neigh, neigh, neigh! Hurrah!

Bó Bó the dog Jump! Catch! Roll! Sit! Stay! These words I hear all day. Hug me... Let’s play!

press coverage iglo+indi continues to receive praise in the global press and on fashion blogs. It has moreover become a popular choice among celebrities across the globe. What they are saying about iglo+indi: From Little Scandinavian 18th of November, 2013: "We love how this Icelandic children’s brand combine traditional styles and patterns with contemporary colours and unusual details. iglo+indi is cute and quirky, and just perfect for the coming festive season.” From Minor Detales 25th of November, 2013: “This weekend the kids had a chance to try out the Icelandic label iglo+indi. I have written about this exciting kids label before here, but it is always great to feel the garments and let the kids have a run in them to see for yourself how they feel, and measure up on two active kids, to give it a proper review. First thing we noticed was how all the garments had a nice stretch in them, especially the tops, which are made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex. The mix gives the tops that good fit but also allows the kids to feel free when they play. D who is 4 and a half is wearing a size 104/110 and M who is 7 wears 128/134. The clothes run true to size and sat perfect on. Personally I can see how the kids love these clothes. I love the illustrations that tell tales of adventures and characters that the kids can relate to. I also like that there has been put a lot of thought into what provides maximum comfort without compromising on creativity. Four thumbs up from the two testers that certainly took the clothes through a rough day of playing in the forest, cliffs and beach.” From Lille Nord 22nd of April, 2014: “If you are looking for a brand with a colourful and extraordinary twist, then you can stop the search here; iglo+indi is an Icelandic brand, that creates clothing with lovely details such as bows, prints, ruffles etc. Every piece of clothing is carefully designed to be as comfortable as possible, and at the same time be beautiful and outstanding.
