RUGBY UNION
The local Townsville Year 7/8 Rugby Union Competition kicked off on Tuesday 17 May with IPC fielding four teams. It is fantastic to see so many boys signing up for Rugby again in 2022. The local competition this year also included teams from Cathedral, Townsville Grammar and St Anthonys. Well done to the students and volunteers that continue to see Rugby Union at IPC go from strength to strength.ROUND 1
Game 1 Result: IPC3 WON 30 – IPC4: 20
This was a fantastic game between two of the IPC teams. It was played in good spirit and the boys enjoyed the mate on mate challenge. In particular, the coaches applauded the great effort and excellent attitude shown by all.
IPC4 MVPs: 3 – Jonah Allan; 2 – Vasefenu Roberts; 1 – Giann Moxon
IPC3 MVPs: 3 – Klay Graham; 2 – Taj Viliamu; 1 – Zak GreenGame 2 Result: IPC1 WON 30 - Cathedral2, 20
It is always a tough battle when we play Cathedral and IPC1’s first game proved this. This was another game played in good spirit with a healthy level of competition between the two sides.
MVPs: 3 – Nick Demopoulos; 2 -Baize Goodwin; 1 – Lachlan Rosemond
Game 3 Result: IPC2 WON 40 – Grammar 5
This was a great first hit out for IPC2 coming up against traditional rivals Townsville Grammar. The IPC forward pack dominated Grammar with their solid defence and good ball security in attack. This created good opportunities for some enterprising back moves.
MVPs: 3 – Craig Blackhurst; 2 – Ethan Millington; 1 – Linton Williams

RUGBY UNION
Seen as the pinnacle of the rugby program at IPC, the 1st XV saw several students once again put their hand up to represent the College. Starting in Term 1, the 1st XV set their sights on being the best in the local and regional areas. With scheduling down south, unfortunately, changing the 1st XV was not afforded the same opportunities as previous years with trips away. However, while winning the Rockhampton tournament was one of our goals, we fell short, coming second. This left the local season of paramount importance, and the boys did not disappoint with victories in every game to come out as overall winners.
