That said, the 2014 World Cup has been memorable for all the right reasons, but unfortunately the bizarre animalistic behaviour of Luis ‘Gnasher’ Suarez is sure to be the way the tournament is remembered. The World Cup has seen 167 goals, plus 4 penalty shootouts, we saw Spain, Portugal and Italy crash out, and new innovations introduced; goal-line technology, vanishing foam and thermally bonded balls?!

As a nation we all put the disappointment of the England World Cup performance to one side and jumped on board the Tour de France band wagon, embracing the event the only way we know how. What a superb advert for Britain and especially the Yorkshire countryside!
The World Cup final is on the Sunday after this edition of Ignition goes to press. It’s no major surprise though that Germany and Argentina fight it out for the chance to claim one of the biggest prizes in world sport (ok the biggest!). In this summer edition of Ignition we give you advice on how to enjoy your August holidays, whether on a road trip with the kids or enjoying barbeque summer evenings. Also, as an independent garage, are you making the most of what is on offer to you to win and retain customers? Ignition looks at the way the AutoCare garage programme helps over 380 independent garages in the UK (p18). Enjoy!

FLOWCONTROL
®
BOTTLE LAUNCH THE END OF MESSY OIL TOP UPS
Specialist oil developer and producer Millers Oils launched their innovative FLOWCONTROL® bottle at a launch event in Silverstone on 3rd June 2014. After three years and many designs in the making, Millers Oils have produced a concept unique to the marketplace, which effectively controls the flow of oil into the filler point of your car. The FLOWCONTROL® easy-pour mechanism revolutionises bottle design by enabling the user to control oil flow, without the use of a funnel, preventing contamination and spills. The design follows Millers Oils’ recognition of the increased usage of 5L bottles due to the diversification of automotive oils, which has led to garages having to stock fifteen or more engine oils. After consultation with garages, Millers Oils identified the issue of customers returning their cars, after a service, due to smoke from spilt oil, the innovative new FLOWCONTROL® addresses this by preventing glugging and enabling the technician to control the flow of oil. “We have seen oil varieties expand and prices of crude oil rise significantly over recent years, increasing garages’ investment in stock considerably,” says Mark Berry, Business Development Manager - Automotive, Millers Oils.
“Twenty years ago a garage may have only stocked three or four drums of oil, each containing a different grade, now a garage has to stock fifteen or more varieties, typically in 5L bottles, which necessitates the use of funnels.”
06
IGNITION MAGAZINE Powered by Groupauto
The increase in the variety of oil grades is not limited to engine lubricants, but has also affected the number of gear oils garages may stock, increasing the figure by a factor of four. This diversification means that further lubricant training and technical support is becoming a necessity for garages and factors to prevent contamination or the use of incorrect oils, which can be costly for both the customer and the garage. Using contaminated or incorrect oils can cause expensive issues such as turbo failures, or clogged DPFs and catalytic converters, costing the garage large sums to fix. Millers Oils currently provides a technical support line and online look-up service for garages, factors and customers. The company will also be introducing training events and workshops in the near future to provide the technical support the aftermarket needs.
Fifth Gear’s Tiff Needle and Olympic Gold Medalist Amy Williams, go for a spin around Silverstone.
LAUNCHEVENT Silverstone saw TV personality Tiff Needell introducing the proceedings of the day, which included presentations from various parts of Miller’s management team and ignited excitement levels with a hint of the afternoon activities driving Caterhams, Porsches, Evos and Ferraris to name a few, thrashed around the Stowe circuit!

Amy Williams, gold medallist for the Skeleton Race at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics was projected into the public eye overnight. Amy spoke after lunch about her winning of the Olympic gold medal, but more importantly about the preparation she undertook in order to become the best in her event. Things such as spending weeks upon weeks in a wind tunnel perfecting her body lines, ensuring her body temperature was always at the optimum level required in temperatures below freezing, and dealing with why she had never won a race, up until that event, even though on paper she was far quicker than any of her competitors. She talked about these factors to illustrate that all these little things add up to make a difference. So to bring it back to our industry, whether motorsport or everyday road use, engine oils are so important. If it’s winning a podium spot or protecting the engine of the 2nd largest purchase you are likely to make, choose Millers Oils.

The Premier league's GREatest foreign imports The Premier League has seen some truly amazing talent over the last 22 years, the talent has not only been homegrown, but players from all around the world have graced our fine league. The list of incredible foreign players is far too long, so we’ve narrowed it down to players from the top 3 sides over the Premier League era. Take a look and see if you agree with our choices.
ARSENAL DENNIS BERGKAMP ‘The Non-Flying Dutchman’ had the finest technique of any player in the Premier League era. Bought in 1995 for £7.5m from Internazionale, he spent 11 glorious years at Arsenal, winning 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups and 3 Charity Shields along with numerous individual accolades.
THIERRY HENRY A World Cup winner, Henry had it all...finesse, pace, power and unbelievable technique. Two time World Player of the Year, the Frenchman remains Arsenal’s all time top goalscorer. Without a doubt, the greatest ever Premier League player.
CHELSEA
GIANFRANCO ZOLA
Didier drogba Drogba was Chelsea’s big money signing in 2004, when he arrived for £24m from Marseille. In his first season in England he helped Chelsea to thier first title in 50 years. He was then instrumental in Chelsea’s success over the next 8 years, winning 11 trophies, including the Champions League in 2012.
MAN UTD Peter SCHMEICHEL
‘The Great Dane’ is undoubtedly the best keeper and physical presence the Premier League has ever seen.
Skillful, creative and a pleasure to watch, Zola was voted Chelsea’s Greatest Player Ever in 2003. Zola won 6 trophies for Chelsea and has since gone on to manage West Ham in the Premier League and Watford in the Championship.
CRISTIANO RONALDO Signed for a mere £12m in 2003, Ronaldo went on to become the most expensive player in world football. His club honours are matched only by his individual accolades, Ronaldo is the current holder of the FIFA Ballon d’Or...and rightly so.
ERIC CANTONA The infamous Eric Cantona. Arrogant and brilliant, a true icon of the Premier League era, stolen from Leeds United for £1.2m following his debut season in England.
Other honourable mentions: Vincent Kompany, Nemanja Vidic, Yaya Toure, David Ginola, Patrick Vieira, Sami Hyypia, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Luis Suarez 08

5th JUNE 1944 D-Day was originally set for June 5 but had to be postponed for 24 hours because of bad weather.
IS THAT A RIFLE IN YOUR POCKET? Condoms were issued to soldiers – most were used for covering the end of their rifles to keep them dry as they swam to shore (and that isn’t even a crude pun!).
THE MAGNIFICENT ELEVEN Photographer Robert Capa took over two reels of film, totalling 106 pictures, yet only 11 survived after a 16-year-old darkroom assistant dried them at too high a temperature.
TROOPERS IN PYJAMAS Like many troops, Lieutenant Herbert Jalland of the Durham Light Infantry ran onto Gold Beach wearing pyjamas underneath his battledress, in order to prevent chafing from his backpack.
DID YOU KNOW... The stunning Omaha Beach scene in the 1998 movie Saving Private Ryan, starring Tom Hanks, cost £7million to film and used 1,000 extras.
BALLS OF STEELE Paratrooper, US Private John Steele, was dropped in the wrong place. His parachute famously became snagged on the church steeple at Sainte-Mère-Eglise. He was trapped for two hours before being taken prisoner. Steele later escaped and was the Bronze Star for valor and the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. www.groupauto.co.uk/ignition

Rebeka (left) and Gemma (middle) with racing Driver Jo Polley-Goldin
Are you friends with the other grid girls on the track?
There’s a lot more than meets the eye with the BTCC grid girls! We caught up with Gemma Newman and Rebeka Kiraly, grid girls for driver Chris Stockton of the Power Maxed Racing team, after the Croft race to get to know what they are like out of their Lycra.
14
Tell the readers about yourself. Where are you from? How old are you? Support a footy team? I’m Gemma, a Midlands girl living in Tamworth, I’m 28 years old and I’ve two big brothers, Paul and Stuart. I have three nieces and two nephews…the oldest is my mini me Georgia, go near her and I will murder you in brutal fashion - Ha ha! I’m not into football really, only the World Cup. I’m Rebeka, originally from Hungary but I lived in Brighton for about 8-9 years. I've studied there as well. I’m an only child thank god. My age? Well a girl never tells! I don't support any football teams, but I kind of have to support Arsenal otherwise I would probably get chucked out of the living room.
IGNITION MAGAZINE Powered by Groupauto
The grid girls at the BTCC paddock are some of the nicest most down to earth girls I know. My two best friends at BTCC are Emily Jane Williams, she’s Mat Jacksons Grid Girl for Airwaves Racing, we’ve been good friends for around seven years now, and we even have our own hashtag… #Gemily, haha! My other paddock bestie is Becci Stanton who is on grid for Jack Goff. We live 10 minutes from each other and have the best laughs, a true friend for life. Amber Maloney and Amber Gregory are babes too, we used to be part of Airwaves racing together. Gemma of course! She showed me the way on the grid as I'm fairly new I haven't had a chance to get to know everyone but I also get on well with Sam (Samantha Young - Grid girl for Hunter Abbott at Rob Austin Racing) - she's great. How do you stay so fit? Your guess is as good as mine. I used to go to the gym and go swimming. I haven’t been once this year! I’m ashamed to say my diet isn’t the best, you’ll usually see me with a Pukka Pie (other pies also available as they say) or a cake in my mouth! The calories will catch up with me one day, but for now I’m enjoying being greedy while I can. I might go to the gym here and there but I don't go crazy with it.
Other than the BTCC events, what other promotional work do you do? You name it, I’m there! I’ve been in the industry since 2006, I’m one of the grid girl veterans, I’m actually awaiting my own medal of honour, or a trophy… that would be nice. This race season I’m splitting my weekends mainly between BTCC and the British Superbikes, where I’m the brolly girl for Shakey Byrne at Paul Bird Motorsport. I love motor sport; it really is the best job in the world! Do you have a job outside of promotion? I’m actually just about to finish the final year of my Nursing Degree, so as of September I’ll be qualified to save your life!! Ha ha. It’s hard work, three years at university and a diploma at College but I enjoy it and it’s a rewarding job. Proud to be part of the NHS! Best event you’ve ever worked at? I LOVE MotoGP, I’ve just flown back from the last round at Assen which was an amazing atmosphere, real good fun. BTCC is always a good place to be though. I love my friends there and the fans are so amazing, the most loyal following I’ve seen. This is slightly off track but an Agency I worked for gave us VIP tickets to Guns’n’Roses a couple of years back… I was able to eat cheese and crackers with Axl Rose while he pottered around in his dressing gown… I felt extra cool that day! It would probably be Oulton Park as it was the home race for Chris and also my first ever race, great atmosphere.
Fancy any sportsmen? If so who and why? Oohh cheeky question, I might have my eye on someone, he has a lovely face… oh God now I’m embarrassed… I can’t answer that… eek… right ok… next question! Good old Beckham, after his TV program in Brazil would be rude not to say his name. What sort of guys do you go for? I don’t really have a type as long as they can make me laugh they’re on to a winner. I like someone I can eat my pies and cake with, someone who can get along with my friends and have a silly sense of humour that I can get up to mischief with. It’s a bonus if they like racing or if they like classic rock music, but as long as they don’t like fish… if you’re a fish eater then I’m sorry, we will not work out, it’s not me… it’s you! Tall dark and handsome! Preferably with blue eyes and a white horse - haha. What is one thing every man should know? That the woman will ALWAYS find out! Men, you should also know how to operate a BBQ and learn how to spoon… spooning is important... a life skill, if you will! Great answer Gemma! I can’t top that.
Most outrageous chat up line you’ve heard? ‘Hi, my name is ‘Dave’…. But you can call me tomorrow’… a guy used it on a friend of mine, it was amazing, what a hero! Just offer me a packet of pork scratchings and challenge me to a dance off, and don’t be rude to my friends!.... if you’ve caught my eye I’ll usually come and talk to you first anyway, ha. Your eyes are like spanners, every time I look at them, my nuts tighten, haha!
REBEKA will rev your engine
Your eyes are like spanners, every time i look at them, my nuts tighten, haha!
Ever had any first date disasters?
Have you any holidays abroad planned this summer?
This is going to sound strange, but I’ve only ever had one date really… my previous boyfriends have always been good friends of mine first, so no I’ve not had any disaster first dates yet, but there’s always time! I can be quite clumsy or find a way to embarrass myself…. Watch this space. Was all ready to leave, for what I thought was a romantic first date, until he said “Meet me at Nandos” so I thought sod that and took my best friend along with me!
I’d like another holiday or city break, I love to travel and see things. I’ve nothing booked up as of yet, a few trips away with my promo jobs so I have those to look forward to. Actually I tell a lie, I’m planning a visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach with my grid girlfriends haha... We live the life of glamour! I have already gone to Thailand, but I'm planning a girl’s holiday to Ibiza.
Best place for a night out? TAMWORTH! Actually I don’t know, I’ve visited lots of places for nights out but as soppy as it sounds it doesn’t really matter where I am as long as I have good fun people around me, a night down the local pub is good enough for me… Preferably next to a kebab shop, haha! Brighton without a doubt! What is your dream car? I don’t have one in particular, I drive a Fiat 500 at the moment, it’s my pocket rocket. If I had the money I would buy a Range Rover Sport. I need something practical and safe for when I crash it. For me it would be a Bentley Continental GT, awesome power and stunning interior. What has been your best purchase of 2014 so far? My holiday to Ayia Napa with my best friends from school, Kayley and Elle, or who I like to call ‘The Danger Clams’... Don’t ask! We went away for a week in May, best purchase I’ve EVER made. My Celine bag.

Money no object, where would you like to spend a holiday? That’s a real tough one, there are so many places I’d like to visit. A VW Campervan road trip across the States would be awesome, I’m yet to visit Thailand or Australia, they are on my ‘to do list’, but with money as no object I guess I’d have to fly my buddies over for a trip to Vegas! Would love to do a round trip of North and South America. Most recent film you have watched? Wolf of Wall Street, how awesome is that film?! I think we should become stock brokers! Favourite film of all time? Oh another tough one! Films I can watch over and over again include; Forest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, The Lion King and Gremlins ha. NEVER EVER take me to watch a musical… I will put a gun to my ear and probably push you off a bridge. I absolutely love Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood.
Quickfire Questions: Q. Cats or dogs? DOGS always… Shout out to my boy Gaston! (That's Gemma's pet dog BY THE WAY!) DOGS FOR ME TOO.
spooning is important... a life skill, if you will!
Q. WINE OR SPIRITS? CIDER…. Why is cider not an option?! SPIRITS! Q. Night in or night out? night in night out
Q. Fish and chips or fine dining? Fish and chips… without the fish! FINE DINING

LIFE IN THE FAST LANE WITH THE POWER MAXED PIT CREW
IGNITION MAGAZINE LOOK AT WHAT IT TAKES TO BE PART OF THE PIT CREW OF A BRITISH TOURING CAR TEAM. THE TEAM BEHIND DRIVER CHRIS STOCKTON TELLS US MORE. WHAT DOES A TYPICAL RACE WEEKEND CONSIST OF? We don’t have a test day, the weekend starts with set up, that is building the garage and hospitality units and setting up our ‘home’ for the weekend. On qualifying day we have two free practice sessions on the Saturday morning where we set the car up for the day; the car is constantly evolving so we need to make sure that it is perfectly tuned for the track. On race day it’s an early start; we get the car ready, cleaned and double checked for the first of the three races. We roll the car out of the garage, Chris climbs in and we are off to the grid.

“ There is always a bit of banter, we are forever making fun of each other but when push comes to shove we support and work together.
ARE YOU FULL TIME RACE MECHANIC?
WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH THE DRIVER AND THE REST OF THE TEAM?
Race mechanics tend to do a number of jobs, so you either need a very supportive employer or you need to work on a freelance basis as 10 weekends a year you need to be at the track from Thursday until Monday. Our mechanics are fortunate to work with Chris Stockton at his company Ningbo, meaning they can easily get the time off for racing.
The key is in the question, we are a team, we support each other and all pull towards the common goal. There is always a bit of banter, we are forever making fun of each other but when push comes to shove we support and work together.
HOW DO YOU BECOME A RACE MECHANIC? The most common way for mechanics to enter the industry is to do unpaid work with a team to gain experience, then presenting your experience, commitment, mechanical skill and professionalism will give you the best chances of success. Power Maxed Racing currently has an apprentice mechanic who is working his way through a college course. This is also a great way to get into being a race mechanic.

HOW MUCH DOES WORKING ON A RACECAR DIFFER FROM WORKING ON A ROAD CAR?
Chris‘ race day mechanics in action
The principles of any car are all the same (or very similar), and as with different road cars they all have their different quirks, the racecar is just like any other car in that respect. We have much more adjustment in the racecar than a normal car so we can tune it to track conditions. WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF THE JOB? That would have to be consistency, we move our garage all the way round the country in all weathers and we have to perform a very precise and time critical job no matter where we are or what has happened. DOES EACH MECHANIC HAVE A CERTAIN RESPONSIBILITY WITHIN THE TEAM? Yes - we have a team manager who is the conductor, making sure everything happens at the right time. We then have a race engineer who is the link between the driver and the mechanics, he analyses the data, listens to the driver and asks his mechanics to make the necessary changes. Each car has a lead mechanic who overseas the other two mechanics - he is referred to as the number one. The number two is usually slightly less experienced than the number one and looks after one side of the car and supports the number three mechanic who looks after the other side of the car; the number three will also work the air jacks. You then have a tyre mechanic who manages the tyres, scraping and supplying them to the mechanics to change. We also have an apprentice who works across the whole team learning all the roles.

My brothers took great amusement in saying no it's just Jo being sick on the grass verge. Money no object, where would you like to spend a holiday? The Maldives, we went for our honeymoon and it was amazing, would love to go back. And New York for New Years Eve would be awesome. What film did you last go to watch at the cinema? Rush, great film. I was really interested to see it because my Dad was friends with James Hunt in the early days and went to his first circuit race with him, they towed his Mini with a Rover with one sat in each because they couldn't afford a trailer between them!

The Ignition Magazine team is situated at the GROUPAUTO Head Quarters in sunny Bradford, West Yorkshire; a stone’s throw away from A. Kahn Design, Britain’s original automotive fashion house, creating wheels, body styling and components tailored for vehicles from the Range Rover to rugged trucks to the most exclusive supercars. Ignition were given a guided tour of the incredible tailored cars at A. Khan Design Bradford showroom and were told how they have transformed their business into the renowned name in bespoke automotive styling. A. Khan Design add bold and unique accents to manufacturers’ existing designs. Drawing inspiration from styling cues from the entire history, and beyond the boundaries of the automotive industry, Kahn refines the aesthetic elements of each vehicle with enhancements that complement and integrate with the essence of its identity and style. All the work of our designers, graphic artists, 3D modelers and technical engineers is channelled into providing our clients with that final piece of the jigsaw, where completeness and harmony exist – the difference between a car which simply says something about you and the vehicle which reflects who you are.

A. Kahn Design has showrooms in London, Bradford and a brand-new state of the art showroom in Leeds. The new Leeds facility will display a full range of vehicles and accessories enabling clients to experience the style, innovation and excitement, which are hallmarks of A. Kahn Design. Top of the Range The Kahn Range Rover 600-LE Luxury Edition is a prime example of the attention to detail they are notorious for. Connecting the worlds of fashion and all things automotive, the Bali Blue Kahn Range Rover 600-LE Luxury Edition is yet another design worthy of the dictum: ‘The Road is my Catwalk’. Complete with all the style and comfort you’ll ever need in an SUV both inside and out, this vehicle delivers a captivating driving experience, making it the ideal intersection between sophistication and style. A floating black roof sits atop the Bali Blue Range Rover 600-LE and extends rearwards thanks to a new wing with added lip spoiler for better down force. A commanding front bumper with a floating carbon fiber section sits below the new three-dimensional mesh, silver floating insert, and body-coloured surround. Carbon fiber side vents,
body-coloured door handles, and Kahn enamel wing shields decorate each side as privacy-tinted glass hides occupants from prying eyes. At the rear sits a new 600-LE bumper with integrated exhaust diffuser that makes room for the new 600-LE cross hair quad rear tailpipes with chrome finishers. Furthermore, behind the Kahn RS600 wheels in an imposing 9.5 x 23 size are gold-painted calipers for that added touch of personalisation. Step inside and you’ll be greeted with a vibrant display of red nappa leather. All of the 3-D modular front and rear seats are fitted with this opulent and soft material in addition to the center glove box. The leather re-trim is completed by door cards and arm rests, while vented foot pedals in machined aluminum add a sportier touch to the luxury SUV. The Bali Blue Range Rover 600-LE Luxury Edition is currently available with all of the aforementioned upgrades or it can be completely custom-tailored to any customer’s wishes to create a unique and special luxury SUV.
KAHN IN FILM Here’s the dilemma, the Directors of the Edge of tomorrow need Tom Cruise to try to roll under a passing vehicle, an attempt whose failure is announced with an off-screen squish. The next time, however, he gets the timing right, just as a video-game player might finally trial-and-error his or her way through an especially tricky puzzle. For these particular scenes, a rather military-esque vehicle was needed and this is where A. Kahn Design provides their expertise. Once the directors saw the Jeep Wrangler Chelsea Truck Company CJ300 they had to have it in the movie. Cruise’s gasp-worthy run-in with a Kahn Jeep has been a significant talking point with a number of commentators and journalists pointing to the scene in numerous reviews. Taking inspiration from the iconic military heritage of the original Jeep – the Kahn Jeep Wrangler Sahara 2.8 Diesel – Chelsea Truck Company CJ300 LE is a popular style statement of choice for city slickers and off-roaders. Separating the Kahn Jeep Wrangler CJ300 LE from its standard siblings, though, are exclusive touches. These comprise of what seems to be a volcanic satin silhouette, Kahn wheels, brake calipers, cross hair headlamps, privacy glass, four slot Chelsea Truck Company front grille, Kahn branding and smoked side repeaters. Nothing beats watching the usually cool and collected actor lumbering around in a clunky suit, getting knocked out of frame suddenly by the rather cool Kahn Jeep, and then immediately restarting the sequence with him learning from his mistakes and crossing the Kahn jeep’s path safely.

END OF THE SUMMER SUN If you want to catch the last rays of sunshine that your body will see for a good six months, then an end of season holiday is just the ticket. There are plenty of places where the sun still shines beyond the summer and usually at a bargain price too.
HALF-TERM FUN Gran Canaria has average daily temperatures that don’t drop below 20ºC from May through to November. The South has some stunning resorts; Meloneras, Playa De Ingles and Maspalomas have everything from sandy beaches and warm waters to entertainment, restaurants, shops and nightlife. If you’re taking the kids, Puerto Rico is the most popular resort for families; a beautiful resort with gentle sunshine and a world of leisure open all year round. Just a short walk from the Marina is one of the resort’s major attractions, Atlantida, a fun packed theme park with thrilling rides and slides for all the family.
GREECE IS THE WORD At the end of the summer season you will find some great weather in the Mediterranean, the further south you go. Crete is still a hot spot in September and October and has some fantastic resorts too. Being the largest Greek Island Crete has something for all holiday agendas. Malia is vibrant and lively, particularly popular for young party goers, Istron on the Mirambello Bay is perfect for families and Loutro is a quaint resort perfect if you’re looking to escape for a peaceful Autumn getaway.

ESCAPE TO ITALIA Venice is one of the most romantic cities in Europe. Located in north-east Italy on numerous small islands in the Venetian Lagoon, it oozes charm and character after all where else would you hop in a gondola to get around town? September and October are some of the best months to travel to Venice, as the hustle and bustle of summer is over and the temperature is somewhat cooler. It is also a lot more affordable to travel to Venice later in the season as hotel prices are relatively low.
STAYCATION The unpredictable British summer is enough to put anyone off holidaying in their homeland. We might not have guaranteed daily sunshine hours or 25ºC in the shade, but what we lack in climate we make up for in culture. Cornwall holds England’s answer to a white sandy beach and is ladened with fascinating attractions. Explore its rich heritage, mosey around its numerous seaside towns and stop for lunch in a cosy pub or a celebrity-chef’s restaurant.

HAVING A CAR CRASH IS BAD ENOUGH, WITHOUT BEING THE VICTIM OF A STAGED ACCIDENT AND SUBSEQUENT INSURANCE SCAM.
E R A BEW ANCE SCAMS INSUR
46
IGNITION MAGAZINE Powered by Groupauto
Here’s just a few classic examples:
The Forced Rear-ending
The Phantom Victim
The he most common (and dangerous) insurance claim is the staged rear-ending, also called a "crash for cash."
You know it's a bad car accident when people who weren't even in the car file a personal injury claim with your insurance company. Actually, this is a scam known as "the phantom victim." Whether an after-effect of a staged accident or a cash ploy that comes later, the scammer will attempt to file claims for additional passengers in the car, claiming pain or injury, even if no one else was present.
How it works: The scammer will slow down or come to a stop in busy traffic, or swoop in front of the victim, causing the driver behind to crash into them. In almost every case, rear-endings are considered the fault of the rear driver, the victim of the scam. Adding to the potential insurance company payday, the con man may also claim to have neck or back pain, despite the accident's very low speed. This allows for both a collision and injury claim.
How to avoid: Gathering information after an accident, such as the other driver's licence number and contact information, also count the number of passengers in the other car (if any) and take photos of the other car, its passengers and the general scene.
How to avoid: Never follow other cars too closely, allowing plenty of room to stop quickly. It's also a good idea to be aware of traffic ahead of the immediate car, so you can anticipate the need to slow down.
The Staged Accident There are more ways other than just a rear-ending for a scam artist to lure you and your insurance policy into danger. In a situation called "flash for cash," what appears to be a friendly stranger who has the "right of way" flashes their headlights or waves you into traffic and then rams into the side of your car. They’ll then deny having given you permission, leaving you liable. A similar scam can occur with two cars are vying for a parking space, which ends up with the same result.
The Fake Injury Claim This can happen in any kind of accident, not just rear-endings. Say you get in a rear-end shunt, and the other driver immediately reports back pain, whiplash or other injuries, if the driver seeks hospitalisation, he'll file an insurance claim with your insurance company. One way to tell this scam may be underway is, if the other driver acts and appears fine after the accident, but then starts moaning and wincing when the police show up.
How to avoid: Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users. Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed. Use your own judgement and proceed carefully.
How to avoid: File a police accident report, even for a minor accident. If the official record notes just a scratch or minor damage, it'll be far less likely an insurance company will believe the other driver suffered significant injuries.
Funny estrian "The car in front hit the ped insurance in" aga him hit I but he got up so claim forms "Going to work at 7am this morning I drove out of my dr gaffes ive straight into a bus. The bus was 5 minutes early."

Kids are little balls of energy, and when that energy gets pent up it can end up being released in the form of a whole lot of hollering, whining and crying. Getting some of that energy out of the way before you and your child are sealed into a moving vehicle can go a long way toward a quiet trip. It's tough to make a fuss when you're stressed out organising everything for the journey, however if you need to start traveling at 10am, set off at 9am and stop at the local park. Run around, play football, hang from the monkey bars – anything to release your kids’ energy. If you can't manage a pre-trip stop at the playground, simply set aside some time to jump around in an out-of-the-way spot at the airport, or schedule some crawling, bouncing and walking time at home before getting in the car.

POCKET ETCH A SKETCH Pocket-size version that is perfect to take on the go!
It’s simple, kids love games! You'll probably want to plan ahead so make a list of general spotting games you can easily play in the car. There are lots of general spotting games you can play, from getting a point for every red car or drivers wearing glasses that you see, the more imaginative the better. Bring a deck of cards, low-noise mini board games like Connect4, Guess Who? or there’s always the good old fashion colouring book.

Offering rewards can be tricky, but bribery in and of itself is not a problem. It's mostly about timing. The trick is to offer the bribe before any bad behaviour starts, rather than “if you stop screaming, we'll pullover and get ice cream.” Try setting up the agreement before you even board the plane or get in the car. That way, you're rewarding the effort put towards good behaviour rather than rewarding the cessation of bad behaviour.
Travel Pack Activity Games The pack includes stickers, games, scribble pad, a pencil with rubber tip & coloured pencils. Zoom Direct £2.79

It's hard to beat the old DVD player, iPod, or handheld gaming system. High-tech entertainment works equally well in the car and on the plane, and it can possibly buy you more quiet time than any other approach. When travelling, there's no shame in a little high-tech parenting.

British boxing is heading in a great direction and the incredible fights on the Froch-Groves II undercard in May this year highlighted exactly that.
Froch & Groves II IBF and WBA Super-middleweight titles The headline fight was staged in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium and saw Carl Froch unleash a devastating knockout punch on George Groves leaving the Londoner out for the count in the 8th round. Froch would love his next, and most likely to be his last, fight to be in Las Vegas.

DeGale took just 4 rounds to finish Gonzalez on the night of the Wembley showcase event. The super middleweight connected perfectly with a fantastic combination of punches before he found a quality left hook to the jaw of Gonzalez. Londoner DeGale is now ready for a world title fight and is the mandatory challenger to face Froch.
The Doncaster boxer, and twin brother of Approved Garages sponsored boxer Gavin McDonnell, beat Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat to claim the WBA bantamweight title. McDonnell won the IBF title last year before being stripped of it for failure to agree mandatory defence.
Mitchell is a former world title challenger in the lightweight division. The Essex boxer had an epic battle with Ghislain Maduma which saw an 11th-round stoppage. Mitchell knew a stoppage was needed after a technically good performance from Maduma put him ahead on points. Maduma was stunned with a left uppercut knocking him down for a second time. The referee checked him over and wisely decided he’d had enough.
The Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua cleaned out challenger Matt Legg in the first round with an outstanding combination to the head. Legg had no chance of beating the referee’s count after a well-placed uppercut from Joshua which gave the Watford champ six wins in six professional fights. This set the atmosphere for the Froch-Groves incredible night of British boxing.

Blast from the past Were these really the days of our lives?...
Corporal Punishment One of the over-riding memories of many people’s school days is the dreaded cane! Every teacher had a different method of teaching a child ‘obedience’, each one as cruel and unusual as the others. Here are a few of the classics:
The Cane!
Deadly accurate and immensely painful, the cane had you opening doors with your elbows for hours.

The sheer embarrassment alone was enough to make sure you never forgot your P.E kit ever again, but add that to the stench of a stale vest and damp shorts... a true punishment!

TEAM TEAMMATES
Yuasa has sponsored Honda Yuasa Racing (HYR) in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) since 2010 and has been title sponsor for three seasons including the current series. Just before this edition of Ignition went to press, we caught up with team drivers Matt Neal and Gordon ‘Flash’ Shedden for a Q&A session as the mid-season summer break began.
Following successful BTCC campaigns with two clean sweeps in 2011 & 2012 and the team & constructor titles in 2010 & 2013, HYR took on the additional challenge of running a Civic Tourer in 2014. What have been the most significant problems of that for you as drivers? GS: Firstly, the bar has been set incredibly high over the last few years and we have developed a team with a ‘winning’ attitude… to start the season with a brand new car and really roll the dice with the Tourer was a big but calculated risk! The change of shape has meant the handling of the Tourer is a bit different from the hatch and it has been a case of trying to unlock the secrets of the new car. The championship is so close and so competitive that 1/10th second can make the difference between qualifying on the front row or on the 3rd row…it’s incredible. In addition to that, there are the 30 other cars trying to beat us every weekend as we are seen as the benchmark so it is a fair problem. MN: The Tourer has its pros and cons, it is actually better aerodynamically for drag and down force but obviously heavier with more rear weight bias and higher rear centre of gravity. We tune the car with the rear end making it help steer us through the corner. This is OK but with the Tourer when the rear starts to move it can be a little harder to hang onto than the hatch with that extra weight but we’ve made fantastic progress to this point which is borne out by the results we’re getting.

Halfway through the 2014 racing programme and still very much in contention for all three titles again, what are your hopes for the remaining five race meetings? GS: Firstly, we must try to win the Manufacturers Championship for Honda, and the Teams Championship for Honda Yuasa Racing. Beyond that I hope to go to the final round at Brands Hatch with a chance to win the Drivers’ Championship… can you imagine an estate car winning the BTCC?! MN: Being realistic, I’m out of the driver championship running but Flash is still very much in the hunt just seven points off the leader, so second half could see a more tactical approach from my side. Still gotta score wins and strong points for Teams and Manufacturers but also need to make sure we keep Flash’s points tally bubbling along. You've raced together for Team Dynamics/HYR since 2010 and on-off before that and there is very much a family feel to HYR. How much does that and your shared success over the years contribute to the extraordinary success of the team? MN: I think it’s that we are passionate about our sport, hungry for success and we care, by that I mean we want anyone involved in the programme to have a fantastic experience, enjoy and be a part of the successes we strive to achieve and if we have to go that extra yard to make that happen then that’s the bit that can make the difference. GS: The strength of our Team is based on our ability to work together. Our engineers are 100% open and it’s well documented
perfectly fits with the way we go racing, they are passionate and want to make things happen developing and embracing new technologies. GS: Yuasa are a fantastic partner to have in our programme. We all share the same values, the desire to succeed and to be the best we can. Technology plays a huge part in BTCC and we constantly work with Yuasa to supply the team with trick new products…I’ve had chocolate bars that weigh more than our batteries in the race car and that enables us to place the weight in a more effective place in the car. It’s all about Performance! Away from the track, how have you been relaxing this summer? GS: I run the commercial side of Knockhill Racing Circuit in Scotland so the summer time is particularly busy for us. I’m also looking forward to racing a historic Lotus Cortina (it’s 50 years since Jim Clark won BTCC in a Cortina) at the Silverstone Classic at the end of July. MN: The summer break is when I’ve traditionally injured myself over the last few years so was going to take it easy this year! That said I’m off gorge jumping in Wales next weekend, racing in a round of the British Rage Buggy Championship the weekend after and at Silverstone Classic with Flash in a Lotus Cortina the week after that so still pretty busy. Did you manage to watch any World Cup Games and who was your favourite team or player?
that Matt and I get on so well away from the track too. It’s a bit spooky but there is almost a 6th sense there which we both use to help each other...it really is a winning combination and long may it continue! How has Yuasa contributed to the success of HYR? MN: Yuasa has been a critical partner in all our successes, they are a business that
MN: Sorry I blinked and missed England’s involvement, maybe we didn’t pay them enough?!? GS: Is that football you talk of??? Seriously, I’ll watch a game if it’s on but wouldn’t make a special effort to do so. That said, I’ve got a good feeling about Holland this year, so that’ll be them out at the next hurdle then! Thank you both.
