elcome to the summer newsletter from your Town Council.
As Chairman of Keynsham Town Council I was honoured to present our Council wreath to the war memorial at Keynsham Memorial Park gates on Remembrance Sunday in November. Consequently I was delighted to receive an invitation from the Chairman of B&NES Council to represent Keynsham at a Raising of the Flag Ceremony at Bath Guildhall on Monday 23rd June. This event is part of the build up to Armed Forces Day on 28th June when the whole nation is invited to show support for our military community both serving and retired. These events are a great opportunity for us all to show respect and gratitude for the efforts and sacrifices made by these inspiring men and women as they safeguard our way of life.

Through a democratic process the people of Keynsham have now chosen the clock tower to provide a focal point in our new Centre. Aware of winning artist Sebastian Boyesen’s previous work I am sure he will follow up his excellent proposal with detailed consultation before finally delivering his much awaited finished work of art. The new Centre is on schedule for opening this autumn although the clock tower will not be in place until Spring 2015. Finally, I must mention our biggest community event of the year – Keynsham Music Festival Monday 30th June to Sunday 6th July. This fantastic week long series of events is a nationally recognised portfolio of artistic and musical excellence totally dependent on grants, sponsorship and donations. The Sunday Festival in the Park is an amazing combination of music, food and entertainment for all members of the family. However don’t forget to book your selection from the preceding week when a whole range of entertainment is on offer from a number of different venues – full details available from the KMFA website: www.keynshammusicfest.co.uk Best wishes,

INTERESTED IN BEING ON STAGE? After 22 years of productions and recognised successes on the stage Keynsham youth theatre sadly closed the curtain earlier this year. But following outcry from past members, other groups and many people who have come to see the group over this 22 year period Chairman Rachael Abbott has worked hard to try and turn this around, unfortunately this was too late to save the existing group but with the help of past members and interested parties a new group has been formed for the young people of Keynsham and its surrounding areas. An interim committee was formed, funding applied for and a constitution approved, along with membership to NODA (National operatic and drama association) and venues arranged, they have also organised a producer, musical director and choreographer from this Phoenix Keynsham youth theatre has now been formed. With young members already signed up and advertising campaigns attracting new members and funding the future looks bright, Phoenix KYT is open to all abilities and children of senior school age in Keynsham and its surrounding areas (including year 6 leavers 2014) who have an interest in Drama, musical theatre and who are interested in learning more. The group is run by volunteers who have a passion for music and drama who hope this will create a fun and exciting place for young people to learn all aspects of musical theatre including, singing, acting and dance working towards a full stage production. Phoenix-KYT starts their new adventure with a musical extravaganza called ‘Be Our Guest’ an evening of Song and Dance. Once seated the audience will enjoy a feast of songs from musicals both on stage and screen. Well known and loved hits from shows including ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Oliver’ and ‘Matilda’ to name but a few!
7
Make a date with Phoenix-KYT and be our guest for what promises to be a tasty treat for any musical fan. The Show will open Wed 1st April 2015 at Broadlands Academy. If you would like to be involved in this exciting project or interested in helping in any way with backstage or costumes then please come along or get in touch. The group starts on Tuesday the 3rd of June at Broadlands academy at 7.30pm for an introduction to the group and then from every Tuesday at 7.30pm onwards. If you cannot attend but are interested please feel free to contact Jo on 07597807517 or email Phoenix-kyt@outlook.com for more information.

The start point will be the Park Cafe in the Memorial Park, where refreshments will be available. There is free tea and biscuits to the first 30 walkers to sign. The walk will be 6 miles long over fairly flat terrain, and take 3.5 4 hours approximately. KEYNSHAM TOWN COUNCIL ANNUAL REPORT 2013/14 The Keynsham Town Council Annual Report 2013/2014 was presented to the Annual Town Meeting held at Keynsham Baptist Church on 28 April 2014. A full copy of the Report is available from the Town Council office and on the council’s website www.keynsham-tc.gov.uk. REPORT BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE TOWN COUNCIL Councillor Clive Fricker As our spirits begin to rise with the improving weather we can reflect on a year of tremendous progress in our town. An exciting calendar of events has been delivered through hard work in that special partnership between Keynsham residents and the Town Council, both staff and councillors.
continuing to fall with Keynsham proving an ongoing safe place to live. We maintain our vigilance supported by effective Neighbourhood Policing and Neighbourhood Watch schemes. New PACT meetings for the whole of Keynsham successfully took place giving a one Keynsham view of policing and solutions for any community problems in our town. Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens addressed our Annual Town Meeting in April while our new Police Inspector Sarah Treweek succeeding Tim Stuckes will speak at this year’s meeting on Monday 28 April. Finally police facilities will be enhanced this year with the completion of the centre in Ashmead Road and an operations base in our exciting new Centre.
There is a real determination to work as one community to ensure a good quality of life for everyone in all areas of the town. The community in action could be seen in a multitude of ways through the many and varied clubs and societies in our town. These came together on super occasions such as the KTC Grants Awards evening last July and the Networking Evening earlier in the year for local organisations to promote themselves to one another. Both of these events show even greater promise this year with Community Networking at Wellsway School which took place on 26 March and our Grants Evening to take place later in the summer. Two further excellent examples of a lively community could be seen in the Annual Music Festival in July and the Victorian Evening in November. Both events have further exciting plans for this year, the Music Festival week commencing 30 June and Victorian Evening on Friday 28 November. Residents in their homes and streets expect to be safe and its good to see crime rates generally

traffic survey is underway to provide data for improvement plans councillors are determined to achieve. As always we welcome your ideas, comments and support – together we can continue to achieve great things. PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE REPORT By Chairman, Councillor Clive Fricker
The new Centre is on schedule for completion this Autumn. Overall, the past year has seen a dramatic increase in the pace of development in Keynsham. The new Centre is on schedule for this Autumn complete with a clock, K2B residential development continues and K2A off the top of Charlton Road is in process with B&NES Planners. The Somerdale 106 Agreement has unlocked the development of this super site which will deliver an exciting range of homes and employment. Progress continues as we prepare to welcome Avon Fire & Rescue to a new build Head Office at the fire station in Temple Street with the operational units moving to Hicks Gate. This will form a further stage of the redevelopment of this side of the street to be followed in due course with the swimming pool and current B&NES Council buildings. Things don’t stop here given further likely residential growth to meet a new B&NES Core Strategy and exciting ideas for the corridor of the River Avon . Critical to all of this will be a pressing need for an enhanced traffic system given the sensitive location of Keynsham between Bath and Bristol on the heavily used A4. A B&NES town
Given the amount of urban development in Keynsham it’s not surprising that last year has seen a great deal of activity in this council committee. One great uncertainty has been the efforts by B&NES to secure a Core Strategy that will control the required expansion throughout the county. After considerable consultation a limited and reluctant release of green belt to the east and south of the town was agreed by B&NES Development Committee to facilitate national requirements for more housing. It is now intended to secure a Planning Inspectorate approved Strategy by Autumn 2014 that will provide a stable environment in which planned development can proceed. The recent past has seen support for the K2A site off Charlton Road currently with B&NES Development and the completion of the B&NES negotiation of the Section 106 agreement for the initial part of Somerdale. Our Committee has expressed concern at the ‘escape clause’ in the 106 agreement that might permit finance for employment to be used in areas of the county other than Keynsham albeit after a period of five years. The Committee has also taken steps to comply with the requirement for ‘paperless planning ‘by selecting the necessary equipment to meet county standards. When this is combined with our facilities in the Civic Centre it will be a much more effective experience for both councillors and members of the public. Recent experience has seen a much higher level of public involvement in our committee meetings which is welcomed. The Committee has considered 140 applications (as at 24th February 2014) during the year. B&NES Development Control Committee have made
KEYNSHAM NEWS
decisions on 116 of the 140 applications and the Town Council is still awaiting decisions on the remaining 24. Nine applications were withdrawn after the Committee made its decision. The Committee objected to 25 of 140 applications considered. These objections were due to: Development in the Green belt 6, site overdevelopment 11, creating potential traffic & access problems 9, out of keeping with the character of the area 6, outside the building line 4, highways 9, effect on the conservation area 3, loss of ecological habitats 2, no environmental impact assessment presented with the application 1, health and safety – noise or air pollution 2, lack of flood planning or flood mitigation plans 1 and objections without comments 4. 87% of our decisions to support or oppose applications coincided with subsequent decisions to approve or refuse by B&NES Development Control Committee. ALLOTMENTS WORKING PARTY REPORT By Chairman, Councillor Tony Crouch The Allotment Working Party was resurrected for the year 2013/2014 and met with the representatives of the Allotment Association twice during the municipal year. The Association continues to run the Allotments on a day to day basis very successfully. There has been the obvious problem of too much rain and some drainage problems which together we will continue to look at. The development of K2 has produced a problem with the entrance gate and the alignment of the road. Taylor Wimpey have moved the gates to improve this situation. ARTS WORKING PARTY REPORT By Chairman, Councillor Clive Fricker Despite the strict limits on local government spending the Working Party has continued to function enthusiastically with Arts newsletters to record the diverse artistic activity taking place in Keynsham. Grants were also awarded to support a limited number of organisations in their artistic activities.
15
A new Arts Plan will be drawn up by Spring 2014 to cover various activities including further grants and bandstand performances. It has also been agreed that the Working Party will become a Committee of the Council, which will facilitate its decision making. A further improvement will be attained by an invitation to more members from the artistic community to join the Committee. Reflecting amazing events like the Music Festival to be held this year on 6 July we were delighted to receive an enhanced 2014 Arts grant from B&NES Council. CREATIVE INDUSTRIES WORKING PARTY REPORT By Chairman, Councillor Clive Fricker The past year has seen a frustrating lack of activity by the Working Party entirely due to the slow progress in the development of Somerdale. This progress to planning approval running over a year behind schedule due to the scale of the site has slowed the possibility of employment opportunities being introduced. However the initial plans and associated 106 Agreement are now agreed and we anticipate faster progress. The prime objective is to secure a main employer onsite with plenty of space for smaller employers and start ups. To further support the creative sector in Keynsham a survey with B&NES Economic Development is about to be carried out. This is intended to establish the size and requirements of these small companies in the town while encouraging growth and employment prospects. The project will fit well with the promotion and development of site opportunities for smaller enterprises on the Somerdale site. VICTORIAN EVENING WORKING PARTY REPORT Once again, due to the regeneration of the Town Centre site, the fun fair had to be relocated to Ashton Way which proved very successful, as it not only alleviated the density of the crowd in the High Street but enabled the town to have more fun fair rides which were appreciated by the town’s young people.

stage we were entertained by some carols sung by St John’s Junior and Teen Choir, this was followed by music from Keynsham Brass Band, Keynsham Light Opera Group, Riverside Singers and the 2386 Squadron Air Cadet Band. A special thanks to all performers and our compere for the evening, Jimmy Mack. YOUNG PEOPLES’ LIAISON GROUP REPORT By Chairman, Councillor Roy Staddon
The Town Crier, Stilt Walkers and the Keynsham Air Cadet Marching Band formed part of the procession that lead the sleigh with Santa and the winner of the Christmas colouring competition on board. They were followed by children carrying their fantastic willow and tissue Christmas bells, which they had made in a special workshop. The beautifully dressed Stilt Walkers entertained the crowds during the rest of the evening – a popular favourite was the snow queen with her illuminated dress.
The winners and runners up of the colouring competition were presented with their prizes and certificates before the overall winner, Eleanor Burston, helped by the Chair of Bath and North East Somerset Council, Councillor Neil Butters and the then Vice Chair of Keynsham Town Council, Councillor Clive Fricker, switched on the Christmas lights. It was wonderful to hear the bells at St Johns ring out as the lights were switched on. On the community
As is customary the Liaison Group met four times in the last year. The Young Peoples’ Liaison Group was set up when B&NES ran the Youth Service and was a meeting where reports were made from different organizations etc. Now that the Youth Service is run by the Town Council and reports are made directly to the Town Council it was decided to change the remit and format of the Group making it a more “pro-active” group. The change is now a work in progress. One exciting piece of work in process is the forming of a Keynsham Town Youth Council which will give the young people of Keynsham a place for their voice to be heard and an official body of young people for any future consultations regarding Keynsham. Keynsham Youth Service continues to provide an excellent service for the young people of Keynsham and especially so for those with special needs. It was decided not to hold a Youth Fest this year but possibly hold one-off special events throughout the year.

GRANTS WORKING PARTY REPORT By Councillor Tony Crouch Once again in 2013 the Town Council allocated £20000 of its budget to grants for local groups that benefit Keynsham residents. The working party met in May 2013 to consider applications for a grant and recommended that grants of £19655 be awarded to 33 groups. The groups who were awarded a grant were: In addition to this Dial a ride, Keynsham Farmers Market, Keynsham Music Festival Association, the Community Bus and SWAN continue to receive grants from the Town Council. In July 2013 the Town Council held a Grants Presentation Evening in St John’s Church Hall at which the successful groups were able to receive their awards and give a short talk about the work of their group. The diversity and professionalism of the voluntary groups that goes towards making Keynsham the great place it is to live never fails to amaze me.

ANOTHER STEP CLOSER KEYNSHAM CLOCKTOWER
T
he project to secure a new clock tower for the regenerated town centre took a major step forward in mid May as following the exhibition of shortlisted artists, residents of Keynsham cast their votes for their favoured design. The successful winner was Sebastien Boyesen. Boyesen won Keynsham residents and businesses over with his creative and colourful design using patchwork glass and acrylic panels to capture the history of the town both past and present. On hearing his appointment he commented: “What I look forward to most is working with the community, and going on a journey with the creation of the clocktower to see where that might take us. The end result should be a new and treasured landmark in the town that many generations will grow up with. As an artist and designer, I am delighted to be involved in creating the clocktower, and hope that I can repay the enormous trust that is being placed in my hands. I would like to thank all the residents of Keynsham, and the AAG for believing in me.” Keynsham Town Councillor Lisa O’Brien, Chair of the Keynsham Arts Advisory Group said, “We welcomed the involvement of so many residents in this process. Votes were registered both on line and via voting slips available at the exhibition, and were rigorously scrutinised to ensure that only Keynsham residents were included. Sebastien won 48% of the total vote with the next design polling 38%, so he was a clear winner. During the exhibition, residents gave valuable feedback, including the need for a very clear and illuminated clock face which could be seen down the High Street. We look forward to assisting in the development of this lasting legacy for our town.” As part of the commission Boyesen will be working with the community to finalise details of the design.
In July, August and September there will be three special ‘Road Show’ events across Keynsham, where members of the public can meet the artist and bring in photos, images and stories about Keynsham as well as additional work with local groups. Further details and dates will be announced shortly. The new clock tower should be installed in the civic CB Construction 1-4.pdf 1 05/11/2013 centre area by April 2015.

TIMELINE OF
KEYNSHAM A
sub-committee of Keynsham Arts Advisory Group have launched an exciting new project in order to capture details of the history of Keynsham from its earliest beginnings to the modern day. The Timeline is to be positioned on the new timber-coated walkway/ steps on Bath Hill into the Town Centre regeneration scheme, and will feature the ideas of local school pupils and students crafted into images by a local illustrator. The images will be supported by text, imprinted into the wood to enhance and inform people of all ages.
Keynsham Local History Society will have accountability for broad historical information while the Civic Society have taken responsibility for embellishing this with local factual ‘snippets’ and legends. All local schools have been invited to participate, with each being allocated a specific period on which to focus. To date, the response has been very enthusiastic so it is hoped that all will be involved in this historic endeavour. The project brief has been drawn up in order to appoint an illustrator. This will be advertised through local networks (e.g. BANES website) by the end of May 2014. It is anticipated that he/ she will work with schools during the autumn term and that the final design would be ready to coincide with the completion of the new clock tower project in Spring 2015.

enough to have Alistair but we also have BBC Bristol’s Phil Hammond to compere this evening. Another new innovation this year will be the Keynsham ChoirFest – three of Keynsham’s most popular singing choirs – over 100 voices, performing separately and together in concert at St John’s Church on the Friday evening: with Key Voices, KLOGS and ChoirJam.
T
his Summer’s Music Festival will break at least two records: there will be more Keynsham performers than ever before, and more involvement from community groups and businesses in Keynsham than ever before. New venues will include Farrell’s and The Grange Hotel – both of which are giving financial support and will host two events in the Festival week. Also on board for the first time is The Trout ……
This year’s Cinema Under the Stars – or under canvas if wet – will be, by popular FaceBook vote, Dirty Dancing – fifties dress and style will be a must for this musical tale of teenage angst. New, and further expanding the Festival arts coverage, will be an event of readings with Keynsham’s writers and poets, at The Grange Hotel on Wednesday 2nd July, focused on the history of Keynsham.
Nevertheless the Festival will begin with the Roundabout Arts trail on the weekend of 28-29 June, this year with live music at many venues. Pick up Arts Trail booklets in local libraries, council offices etc or find details via the website. The Festival will kick off musically on Monday the 30th June with The Temple Street Bash: live music in The Ship, The Trout and Farrell’s and the promise of late evening shops and other surprises (perhaps!). There will be at least two events every night of the week, and sometimes more, including the regulars - the Saturday Gala Concert and Thursday’s Opera in the Park and trad jazz in the Conservative Club. To match last year’s appearance by Satish Kumar the Live Simply team will present the Scottish eco-activist, writer and broadcaster Alistair McIntosh who will appear in The Park on the Friday Evening – a must have event for anybody with a desire to be greener and develop a more sustainable lifestyle – not only are we lucky

KEYNSHAM NEWS
SUNDAY 6TH On Sunday 6th July every stage in the Park will feature Keynsham performers - including Foreign Affairs, the Emma Hutchinson Band, Nosey Parker, Through Your Eyes and an expanded Slapface and the Hoagies – from teens to over sixties! And alongside them will be acts from as far away as Italy and the mesmerising Bella Takes Chase from Queensland, Australia.
Full listings and all ticket details for the week and the Sunday are listed and regularly updated as they grow on the Festival website. www.keynshammusicfestival.co.uk Headline news snippets and updates together with event and performer details will also appear via twitter, @keynshamfest, and on the Festival FaceBook page.
This year’s finale will feature two great upbeat party bands: Bristol’s all-female Meet Your Feet featuring Bashema on vocals on the Bandstand stage with the Festival’s traditional dose of dance music, and the totally charismatic Bohemian Embassy – Bath’s latest best thing – on the Top Stage. And leading up to them will be The Roving Crows – awarded the UK’s best Celtic Rock Band, with the UK’s best fiddler – and London’s exuberant Cable Street Collective: both of whom will have everybody on their feet. Two further Sunday developments will improve the Festival – the TimeOut Stage will continue to expand its dance and house music, and the Performance Stage will assume a more relaxed and cabaret atmosphere with a range of our expected local and young performers, followed by relaxing acoustic performers in the evening – including we hope our own Gavin Osborn, back from his recent national tour and Radio 4 comedy work. Also a feature on this stage will be Simeon Wood nationally acclaimed musical performer, and multiinstrumentalist, coming straight from his stint at the Frome Festival. However finance is a problem and it is only with the substantial help of Waitrose, Ian McGill Transport and Taylor Wimpey that the Festival is getting close to its budget demands. Donations at this year’s free events will be crucial to the Festival’s future in its present form – the weekend in The Park costs around £50,000 –please give generously!
ACCOUNTING FOR THE MUSIC FESTIVAL Keynsham Music Festival was voted one of the three best free Music Festivals in the UK by Prima Magazine. In 2013 it comprised of some 15 events spread over six days. Most of the entertainment involved the community of Keynsham, showcasing the talent available here in Keynsham and beyond. No musician who plays on Sunday is paid, however it still costs almost £50,000 to put on. The Music Festival would not survive without the generosity of the Town Council who help in many ways. Keynsham Music Festival is a limited company and on its Board of Directors must be 4 Town Councillors whose job to support both organisations. There are hundreds of volunteers who give most generously of their time and without these good people the Festival would collapse. At its heart, it is a community and family event which is appreciated by about half the population of Keynsham who attended at least one event last year.

RECYCLE AN EX-LIBRARY BOOK Library members of all ages are being encouraged by Bath & North East Somerset Council to get creative and turn old books into works of art. Every year, the Council’s library service has books that have reached the end of their life, either through usage or because an updated version has become available. Most find new homes via book sales with the proceeds invested back into the service, but a small number of these withdrawn books are being used as part of a competition designed to bring out people’s creative ideas. The competition will launch on Tuesday May 27, with a Recycled Book Clinic at Bath Central Library. SUMMER RECIPES PORK AND ASPARAGUS In this recipe, half the marinade is used to flavour the meat and vegetables. The other half is whisked with peanut butter to create a tasty dipping sauce -- a fun job that kids can lend a hand with. What you’ll need • 1/2 cup soy sauce • 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil • 2 tablespoons honey • 1 teaspoon peeled and grated fresh ginger • 2 cloves garlic, minced • 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper • 1 pound fresh asparagus, rinsed and snapped • 1 pound pork tenderloin • 1/2 cup peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)

How to make it 1. Make the marinade by whisking together the soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, honey, ginger, garlic, and lemon pepper in a bowl, and reserve 1/2 cup of the mixture in a separate container. 2. Place the asparagus in a zip lock bag and pour in 1/4 cup of the marinade from the bowl. Work the bag gently with your fingers to distribute the marinade. Do the same with the pork tenderloin, using a second zip lock bag and the remaining marinade from the bowl. Let the meat and vegetables marinate at room temperature for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare a charcoal fire or heat a gas grill to medium-high, and oil the grates. 3. Add the peanut butter to the reserved marinade and whisk the mixture until smooth. 4. Grill the tenderloin for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, rotating it a quarter turn at a time, until the internal temperature registers 145º in the centre. Remove the meat from the grill and let it rest for about 5 minutes (the internal temperature will rise to 150º). Meanwhile, grill the asparagus spears for 2 minutes per side. 5. Slice the pork diagonally into 1- to 2-inch slices. It should be juicy and slightly pink inside. Serve the meat and the asparagus with the peanut dipping sauce. Serves 4.

SCHOOL NEWS: ‘SHAKEATHON’ THEATRE WORKSHOP
Y
ear 5 children at St Keyna Primary School were selected to take part in a very special ‘Shakeathon’ programme, organised by The Egg theatre in Bath. Along with children from Batheaston Primary, the class enjoyed several workshops led by Egg staff culminating in a performance of Macbeth at the theatre on 17th and 18th March. Teacher Breda Leese said, “It has been a hugely exciting and rewarding experience for all the children. Learning words that were written over
400 years ago is an enormous undertaking, but they approached the challenge with such energy and enthusiasm.” Here’s how some of the children have summed up their experience: “When I first heard about Shakeathon I felt excited, but also a bit nervous because I had never performed in a real theatre before”. Aryna “It was like a dream come true, to perform on stage and make people clap.” Adonii Following the final performance, Head Teacher

Adrienne Hughes paid tribute to all the performers and staff, “The children have worked incredibly well together supporting each other to learn lines and perform confidently. I’m sure I wasn’t alone in finishing the evening with a little tear in my eye to see how they have developed over the months that they have been rehearsing. What a fantastic experience! I’m sure this great opportunity will be something the children will remember for a long, long time.”

CUTTING CHILD
CASUALTY RATES B
ath and North East Somerset Council is running a campaign which aims to cut child passenger casualty rates. If properly restrained, a child is three times less likely to sustain a head injury in a collision than an unrestrained child. So as part of the campaign, the Council is holding drop-in clinics about the correct way to fit in-car child seats as follows: • Wednesday May 21, at Radstock Police Station • June 19, at Argos Car Park, Midsomer Norton • Tuesday August 19, at KRFC, Keynsham These will run from 9am to 4pm. Parents or carers can have their child car seats checked for safety by experts and hear more about in-car child safety. To help tackle this important road safety issue, the Council has also joined the Good Egg In-Car Child Safety Campaign, designed to ensure that babies and children are properly restrained whilst travelling in the car.

The Good Egg Campaign shows that: • An unrestrained child can be killed in an impact with speeds as low as 5mph. • If properly restrained a child is three times less likely to sustain a head injury in a collision than an unrestrained child. In previous years individual child car seats were checked at clinics across the UK as part of the Good Egg Campaign. From this, 1,221 (52%) were found to be either incorrectly fitted or were incompatible with the vehicle they were installed in. There were wide variances, with as few as 1 in 10 child seats correctly fitted in some parts of the country. Irene Stewart, Road Safety Officer at Bath and North East Somerset Council, said: “It’s a startling fact that an unrestrained child passenger can suffer fatal injuries in a collision at less than 5mph. Although well intentioned parents may be well versed in buying a car seat, the danger of serious injury is just as great if the seat is not fitted properly or if they have chosen the wrong type of seat for the height, weight and age of the child.” Parents can find out more about the campaign and also the retailers who have signed up to the Good Egg Charter at www.bathnes.gov.uk Bath and North East Somerset Council would like local retailers/stockists of child car seats to obtain Good Egg accreditation.
