Annual Parish Meeting, Wednesday, 26th March

Westfield

Message from the Chairman

As we move into 2025 let’s reflect on the last couple of months of 2024.

We had another very successful, and very well supported, Christmas lights switch on and a big thank you to everyone who made it a success. This year we are going out to tender for new lights so watch out for the changes.

That event was followed by our Grants and In Bloom presentation evening which, again, was very enjoyable.

In a very busy December we judged the outdoor Christmas decorations of the homes in Westfield. It was not easy to pick the winner as there were some very good displays.

We are now looking for Westfield’s Inspirational Citizen. If you know anyone who fits the bill – goes the extra mile to help the people of Westfield – then please give their details to the office.

At present we have a vacancy for a Parish Councillor. If you feel this is something you may be interested in then please contact us through the Parish Council office and maybe put yourself forward for consideration.

Cllr Phil Wilkinson, Chairman

2024 Westfield Parish Council Grant Award Presentation & Westfield In Bloom Awards Evening

On Thursday, 5th December, Westhill Club was the host of a heartwarming evening dedicated to supporting the local community and celebrating the beauty of Westfield. The Grant Award Presentation, held alongside the prestigious Westfield In Bloom Awards, brought together local organisations and members of the Parish Council to honour the vital contributions made to the area.

The event was an opportunity to recognise the organisations and groups that have been instrumental in enhancing the quality of life in Westfield. Grants were awarded to various local organisations that support key community initiatives, from youth programmes, such as the local football club, Scouts and Girls’ Brigade, to arts, culture, and environmental projects. The funds will directly support these vital activities that

continue to make a difference in the lives of Westfield residents.

Westfield In Bloom Awards Ceremony

The evening began with the highly anticipated Westfield In Bloom Awards, which honoured the outstanding efforts of individuals and groups who have contributed to the enhancement of Westfield. The Westfield In Bloom initiative celebrates the transformative power of nature, with gardens, floral displays and green spaces that bring pride and joy to the area.

Local gardening enthusiasts, volunteers and schools were celebrated for their dedication to sustainability and community spirit.

The Westfield In Bloom initiative is about much more than flowers and plants; it’s about fostering a sense of pride in our community.

Grant Award Presentation Highlights

Following the In Bloom awards, the event shifted focus to the presentation of grants to 13 local organisations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to serving the Westfield community. The recipients include Westfield Allotment and Gardening Society, Westfield Football Club, Swallow and SWAN Transport amongst others, each of which received financial support to continue their incredible work in areas such as sports, mental health, public spaces and community outreach.

“We are proud to support our local organisations, who do such important work for the people of Westfield,” said Cllr Phil Wilkinson, Chair of Westfield Parish Council.

“These grants are a small but significant way for us to say thank you and to invest in the future of our community.”

A Night to Remember

The event was attended by a diverse group of community members all coming together to celebrate the achievements of those who give their time and energy to improve Westfield. Attendees enjoyed refreshments, music and the chance to connect with fellow community-minded individuals.

As the evening drew to a close with a fantastic performance from Westfield Voices Choir, the overwhelming sentiment was one of gratitude and hope. With continued

community support, Westfield is well on its way to becoming an even stronger, more vibrant place for generations to come.

Christmas Outdoor Decoration Competition

On a chilly December evening Cllrs Diana Cooper and Phil Wilkinson, along with Santa himself, travelled around Westfield in search of the most outstanding Outdoor Christmas display.

There are usually quite a few homes that are worthy of this prize and this year was no exception. It has been noted that some of them have been in place for some time – it seems to be getting earlier and earlier that we start bringing the Christmas cheer into our homes.

This year’s deserving winner in Chaffinch Drive had a wonderful display featuring approximately 5,000 lights. It was designed and installed by Caroline Hickling who was absolutely thrilled to bits to win the competition. Caroline and her husband Paul are foster carers and the display is

for the children. She said it is to give the children that are not with their birth parents at Christmas some joy and something to look forward to.

Councillor Cooper remarked “Caroline and Paul are worthy winners. Despite storm Darragh doing its worst it is a spectacular display.

Final year of Radstock and Westfield Big Local

Has it been that long already?!? It turns out that we’ve entered the final year of our decadelong programme of community investment… wowsers! And what an exciting journey we’ve been on too! The Lottery first told us about the grant money for this area in 2011, and as a community, we had to organise a group of locals willing to volunteer their time and skills to take forward the consultations and planning. The team worked really hard to get us ready for the big launch in 2015, and we’ve barely had time to look back since!

We’ll be creating our impact report soon, showing what we’ve been up to over the past ten years with the £1.15m grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. You’ll see that we’ve made good investments in health and wellbeing, children and young people, and community resilience, with lasting benefit for the whole area.

Big investments last year include £28k to Little Lost Robot, based within the old printworks building in Radstock, to support them to develop creative projects for vulnerable young people, and £25k to Westfield Parish Council towards the creation of changing facilities and an outdoor toilet at Westhill rec (where we’d previously helped fund an outdoor gym and running track).

We have a small amount of the £1.15m remaining for this year, which we’ll invest in another Dragons’ Den (our twelfth!) and a few other worthwhile projects. Check out our Small Fund awards if you’re thinking of doing something to benefit your community.

Finally, it will be time to celebrate with the community – 1000s of people have taken part in projects we’ve supported, and over 100 have worked and volunteered with us to make it happen – it would be great to share our story with everyone involved!

However, the journey might not end there – we’re also working on a plan for our group to carry on doing good stuff in the area. One project we’re

really proud of, and that has consistently caught the imagination of the community, is our Dragons’ Den. We’ve run at least one a year (although not during the Covid-19 era), and will have made Dragons’ Den grants to over 120 amazing community projects by the end of the year! We’re looking for partners to invest in it to keep it going – so if you’re a business, group or an individual interested in contributing we’d love your support!

Westfield’s Christmas Lights switch on

On the last Thursday of November, Westfield started the Christmas Celebrations with the annual switch on event at the Christmas Tree at the top of Elm Tree Avenue.

We were joined by Father Christmas, who gave a small free gift to each visitor. There was free hot chocolate and mulled wine on offer, together with mince pies.

The countdown was heartily shouted out by everyone at the gathering after a stirring ovation from Curate, Nathanael Worsley. He literally brought light into his body – look at those fire eating skills!

The lights were expertly switched on by three Westfield FC Junior players, who did a marvellous job. Stanley Collins, Tommy Barnes and Teddy Morrison were delighted to have been able to play an important part in the event and represented the club admirably.

The Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver band gave us renditions of some very popular carols, joined by Westfield Voices and Westfield Primary School choir. Everyone sang Silent Night, While Shephards Watched and The First Noel and then the children entertained us with Jingle Bells, which was also played by the school orchestra.

Chairman of Westfield Parish Council, Cllr Phil Wilkinson, said: “Once again the people of Westfield had a marvellous evening. It really gets us all into the Christmas spirit. Thanks must go to everyone who helped to put the event together and those that helped on the evening. This is now a well-established tradition in Westfield and we look forward to it every year.”

Carers’ Centre awarded for excellence

The Carers’ Centre in Bath is delighted to have received an Excellence for Carers Award from Carers Trust. The award is the standard for best practice in services, advice and information for unpaid carers.

The Carers’ Centre is part of the Carers Trust’s network of local carer organisations, and was rigorously assessed for its service, as well as the quality of its leadership, staff, internal processes and engagement with key local partners and stakeholders.

For over 25 years, The Carers’ Centre has worked tirelessly to support unpaid carers in Bath and North East Somerset. The role of an unpaid carer can be challenging, confusing, exhausting and complex. The Carers’ Centre provides trusted support and help to carers at all stages of their journey. This comes in the form of practical guidance and knowledge in caring for a loved

one, dedicated Support Line for carers to call and providing compassion, understanding and respite through activities such as cafés, wellbeing classes, peer support groups and days out for young carers. All provided free of charge.

Charities achieving the Carers Trust standard must demonstrate quality of service to unpaid carers across ten key areas including outcomes and impact, carer involvement, and information, advice and support.

As well as signalling the quality of its services for unpaid carers, the award means The Carers’ Centre’s partners and stakeholders can be confident they are working with an organisation that has best practice and sustainability at the heart of its work.

Lawn bowls…. exploding the myth!

It’s a popular misconception that lawn bowls is a game for old folk: with nothing better to do than walk up and down, often in the rain, to see who can got closest to a little white ball. And yes, that’s an image that some of our less enlightened players encourage because they’re probably frightened the youngsters will start beating them at their own game!

Well not at Norwest. We welcome new players of all ages and we pride ourselves on being a friendly club. Yes, we play to win but it’s not the be all and end all at Norwest. That means whether our members are the next Champions of Somerset and England or just play to relax, we want them all to have a great time both out on the green or in the clubhouse for one of our many social occasions.

So, for those of you who know nothing about the sport and want to know a little more, here are some basic facts: we play on a flat square of grass called a green, (although some of the greens aren’t as flat as we’d like!!) and that is divided into rinks. We play with balls which are called ‘woods’ or ‘bowls’ which have a ‘bias’, this means they don’t go in a straight line! The aim of the game is to get nearest to the small ball at the other end of the rink which is called the ‘jack’ or ‘kitty’. So, what’s hard about that?

What is the ideal age to start playing bowls? I’d say the younger the better, but also, having said that, I’d also say you’re never too old. I started playing about 16 years ago and I’d never been sporty. I could never run or jump and my aim was terrible, so any throwing or hitting sport was a definite no-no. But I found I could manage bowls and over the years, incredibly, I found I even got a bit better at it. It’s friendly and social and I even have a few trophies to my name.

We are extremely lucky at Norwest to have two

JackVine, Kath Hillman (Norwest President) and Chloe Holmes.

teenagers, Chloe and Jack, playing for us. Chloe started playing age 11 while Jack started at the tender age of 7 and they both play regularly for Somerset in junior competitions.

Jack was selected to play in the Somerset Middleton Cup Squad in 2024 and the White Rose team in 2023 & 24, these competitions are open to all male bowlers in Somerset so it’s quite a feather in Jack’s cap to be chosen. As well as that, Jack played in the winning Under 25s 4 Counties team and was a runner up in the Indoor Under 25s mens’ singles, and achieved Somerset Boys’ Player of the Year 2002 and Indoor Men’s Player of the Year 2024!

In 2021 Chloe was part of the winning Amy Rose team which went on to gain the highest accolade of Bowls England ‘Team of the Year’. In 2022 she won the Under 18s girls’ singles and in 2024 she won the Under 25s ladies’ single. 2024 saw Chloe

claim the title of Somerset Junior Girl ‘Player of the Year’, an honour which she also won in 2022. Playing together, Jack and Chloe managed to reach the semi-final in the mixed triples in 2024. They are both great ambassadors for Norwest and we are all very proud of them.

It’s great to be able to sing the praises of some of our youth, as unfortunately Norwest suffered last year with some vandalism to our green and clubhouse. This led to us having to purchase expensive CCTV equipment which as a small club, put an unnecessary strain on our funds, however, Westfield Parish Council stepped in with a muchappreciated grant to help us and we’d like to take

this opportunity to say a huge thank you to them.

Hopefully I’ve managed to stir an interest in bowls and you’re thinking about trying it - so what now? The best way to find out is to come along and have a go. You just need flat shoes - it’s as easy as that. Keep a look out for posters to our open events in April when our season starts or any time you see us out on the green be sure to pop in and see what it’s all about. We’d love to welcome you to our club; have a chat and let you have a go. No pressure but you might realise that it’s just the sport for you. The most frequently heard comment from our new bowlers is “I wish I’d tried this years ago!”

Report from Avon and Somerset Police

When looking at our priorities for 2025, we are aware of ongoing issues caused by off-road pit bikes and electric motorcycles being ridden along Greenway and other public areas and footpaths.

We would appeal to any parents who have purchased these types of motorbikes to make yourself aware of the legislation regarding them, such as where they can and cannot be used, and then to make sure that they are being used in line with those rules. It is not only the rider who can be prosecuted, but also the owner or person responsible for that motorbike, even if they were not riding it. Something else you may well have seen are e-scooters. For many people, these would have been a Christmas present, but it is important to understand the legislation that comes with riding an e-scooter. Unless they are part of a scheme, like we see in towns and cities across the country, then they cannot be ridden on public roads, pavements and public footpaths. As they are classed as powered transport, they fall within the legal definition of a motor vehicle as set out in the Road Traffic Act. This means they are legally the same as a car or motorbike and you can be prosecuted in the same way.

Another area of concern is the issue of speeding. One of the tools that can be used to identify speeding and focus the resources we have, such as the speed camera detection bikes, is Community Speed Watch. CSW is made up of members of the public who go out in groups of 2 to 4. They will go somewhere identified by the local community as an area of concern. CSW can only operate in areas where the speed limit is 20,30 or 40mph and on certain types of roads. Then, using the provided speed monitoring devices, the CSW volunteers take the details of speeding vehicles and hand them to the regional CSW team, who will issue warning letters to registered keepers. If an area is found to have a speeding issue, this is then passed onto the Speed Enforcement Team, who go out with the speed detection equipment and catch speeding vehicles. If caught, the driver could receive penalty points on their licence, a possible prosecution or, if they are eligible, attend a speed awareness course. If you are interested in establishing a CSW group, the local Beat Team are here to help. Further details on how to be part of CSW or establish a new group, can be found on the Avon and Somerset Constabulary website or pop into one of our regular beat surgeries to speak to a member of the Beat Team. Interview with our newest Councillor, Laura Lambell

What made you decide you would like to be a Parish Councillor?

• My original inspiration for becoming a councillor would have come from my mum, as she was a ‘town’ councillor. Although not the same, we share the desire to be part of positive change in the community. I was in my teens when my mum took on that role, now in my forties as she was too, it shows how role models can influence us. Other than my mum’s example, and on a more personal level, I have been a full time mum for many years now, ten and a quarter to be precise, and I just felt ready to branch out and be of service to more than my children.

How do you see your role working?

• At this stage I really am just finding my feet as a parish councillor. The process of evolving my role will be ‘slowly but surely’ due to my current other responsibilities. I am very happy to have been given this opportunity to be part of such a lovely team of people who all really care about their community.

What would you like to achieve as a Councillor?

• What I would like to achieve as a Councillor is to help us become a healthier and stronger, more connected community.

What

could be improved in

Westfield?

• What I feel could be improved in Westfield is a stronger sense of awareness of our parish, our separate identity from the neighbouring towns, and hopefully with that our community will grow too, along with a sense of belonging to, and connectedness within, that community. Also, better access to activities that support health and wellbeing, that are either free or very affordable, would be great to see too.

Outside of being a Councillor what are your hobbies and interests?

• Outside of being a councillor other interests I have are music - I’m a singer, rusty now, but I used to sing jazz and also did some vocals with a couple of drum and bass projects in Devon and Bristol. Also, as previously mentioned, I’m passionate about health, all aspects

Goldies singalong!

Goldies, also known as the Golden Oldies Charity, was founded by Bath-based musician, Grenville Jones, in 2007 and has been running sessions all over Somerset ever since.

As singing has been found to have lots of health benefits, they aim to make you feel good by just getting together for a singalong – but it isn’t a choir! You don’t have to be able to hold a tune, you don’t even have to sing! Some just like to come along and listen, others like to chat – everyone is welcome at Goldies!

A new Goldies session is starting in Westfield at Trinity Radstock and Westfield Methodist Church with Jane Price on the second Thursday of each month from 11am – 12noon. The dates so far are 13th March and 10th April with more to be announced soon.

Three emergency bleed kits have been installed in Westfield at Norton Hill Recreation Ground, Westhill Recreation Ground and the Co-op on Elm Tree Avenue as part of a safety initiative by Avon and Somerset Police, in collaboration with HeartSafe UK. These kits, designed to help control severe bleeding in emergencies, contain essential medical supplies such as trauma dressings and a tourniquet.

Find out more by giving the team a call on 01761 470006 or emailing events@golden-oldies.org.uk, everyone is welcome.

1

The installation is part of a wider effort that has placed over 130 kits across the South West. Avon and Somerset Police emphasise that these kits are for emergency use only and should be accessed alongside calling 999. This initiative enhances public safety and empowers the community to provide immediate assistance in critical situations. Information and kit locations can be found at: www.heartsafe.org.uk/bleed-kit-homepage

Waterside valley Update

As we prepare for the installation of paths at Waterside Valley, we are delighted to say that benches and picnic tables are going to be installed at the same time as the path works. This should be around March/ April depending on ground conditions. In the meantime, in preparation for the largish vehicles which will be required on site, we are arranging scrub clearance and trees cut back.

The paths are being installed in two phases. The first phase is funded by Somer Valley Rediscovered, and we are so grateful for this. The works are of some magnitude and would not have been possible without their input.

The Parish Council will then look at grant funding sources to see the second and final phase of paths installed.

The weather did not allow for grass cutting in the autumn, but we are hoping there will be a window in early spring when it is dry enough for contractors to come on site. Our grateful thanks go to the team of volunteers who hand scythed around the ant hills last year.

Future works at Waterside Valley include management of the overgrown hedgerows and planting around the natural springs at the site. A Tree Inspection is on the schedule for this year and we hope that the vast array of events and walks will continue across Waterside Valley.

Defibrillator Relocation:

From Westfield Surgery to Bridges Ltd

We are pleased to announce that one of our community defibrillators previously located at Westfield Surgery, has been relocated to Bridges Ltd. This move ensures that this vital piece of life-saving equipment remains accessible to those who may need it in an emergency.

Defibrillators are crucial in providing immediate assistance to individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. Every second counts in such situations and having a readily available defibrillator can significantly improve survival rates.

We encourage everyone in the community to familiarise themselves with the new location of the defibrillator at Bridges Ltd on the Westfield Industrial Estate. If you are unsure how to use it, remember that defibrillators are designed to be user-friendly, with clear instructions to guide you through the process. In the event of an emergency, always dial 999 for assistance.

We extend our appreciation to both Westfield Surgery and Bridges Ltd for their cooperation in ensuring the continued accessibility of this lifesaving device.

Clearing the Way: Keeping Westfield Clean and Safe

Dogs bring joy, companionship, and love to many households in Westfield. However, as pet owners, we also have a duty to keep our parish clean and safe for everyone. One of the simplest yet most important responsibilities is cleaning up after our four-legged friends. Leaving dog mess on pavements and public spaces is not just inconsiderate—it’s a serious issue that affects the health and well-being of our community.

A Matter of Public Health

Dog waste is more than just an unpleasant sight; it poses significant health risks. It can carry harmful bacteria and parasites, including E. coli, Salmonella, and roundworms, which can cause severe illness— especially in children and those with weakened immune systems. Here in Westfield, we want our public spaces to be safe for everyone, and that starts with responsible pet ownership. By promptly disposing of dog waste, we help protect our neighbours and keep our environment clean.

Unfortunately, irresponsible dog ownership extends beyond just fouling. As one concerned resident recently shared:

“My leashed dog has just been attacked by an unleashed dog that ran over to my dog and was aggressive for no reason.”

Such incidents highlight the importance of keeping dogs on leads in the designated areas, not just for their safety but for the protection of other animals and people.

Respecting Our Community

Westfield Parish Council has received numerous reports of dog fouling, particularly on pavements near the Co-op and the Recreation Grounds. This issue is not just about cleanliness; it’s about showing respect for fellow residents who use these shared spaces. Local football teams often have to clear dog mess before matches and

training sessions, disrupting their enjoyment of the facilities.

As one resident put it:

“Football matches take place here, I’m sure they’re sick of sliding in it and putting their health at risk doing something they enjoy.”

Beyond fouling, there have been instances of unleashed dogs disturbing others. One resident recounted a frustrating experience:

“An older gentleman was minding his own business whilst using the fitness equipment, and an unleashed dog ran over and pee’d on his belongings.”

Incidents like these undermine the enjoyment of shared spaces and create unnecessary stress for residents trying to use public areas.

the Law and Your Responsibility

Dog owners are legally required to clean up after their pets. Failure to do so can result in fines and penalties. These regulations are in place to maintain the cleanliness and safety of our parish. Equally important is the enforcement of lead rules within the Recreation Grounds, as a resident stressed:

“ALL dogs must be on leads at all times for everyone’s safety and enjoyment.”

Ignoring these rules can have serious consequences. Westfield Parish Council urges all dog owners to carry waste bags when walking their pets and to use the many bins provided throughout the area. For those who wish to let their dogs run freely, there are alternative locations nearby, as one resident suggested:

“Waterside Valley is only a very short walk out the bottom of the Rec.”

Keeping Westfield Safe for Everyone

Cleaning up after your dog and keeping them on a lead are small acts that make a big difference. By following these simple steps, we can ensure that our community remains a welcoming and pleasant place for all.

The recreation grounds have a strict dogs on-lead policy. If you wish to exercise your dog off-lead, please use Waterside Valley which is only a short walk from Westhill Rec.

St Peter’s Parish Church, Westfield

It’s hard to imagine when looking at that modern church building off Longfellow Road that this year we will have clocked up 120 years of service to the people of Westfield. We started with a redundant Somerset and Dorset Railway carriage in 1905, parked near the old Elm Tree Inn (that’s where the Shell Garage is now). All these years later, having moved over the road into to a purpose built church (the present one is the second on the site), we are still at the heart of the community and would love to serve you.

Every second, third, fourth and fifth Sunday you can join us at 9:30 for Parish Communion (now and again we join with other churches, including our sister church St Nicholas in Radstock, but we’ll let you know when that is happening on our Facebook page). On the first Sunday of the month, we have a Family Service led by arguably the best worship band north of Whitstone’s Fish and Chip Shop –

this service is very family orientated and we love to see children of all ages – the Rector and the Curate have been known to resort to conjuring tricks to keep everyone amused.

Every Thursday at 10:00 we have a communion service that is always well attended and if you aren’t doing anything on a Thursday morning you would be very welcome. The circle of chairs at the end of the service, with tea, biscuits and chat, is always well received.

From time to time we have special social events such as the very successful Christmas Tree Festival and the occasional Saturday morning bacon butties, tea and coffee sessions. These events will be publicised in The Journal, posters and our Facebook page.

Rector Ian Rousell and Curate Nathaneal Worsley would love to see you at any of our services. You might even have fun and make new friends. Domestic electrical services

On Saturday, 8th March, much acclaimed and highly respected band, The Jamestown Brothers, will be performing a very special night at Mardons Club, as part of their ‘Built To Last’ tour.

Taking a step away from the usual cover bands, this is a showcase of all original material from a stunning band that brims with musical talent. The unique line-up of guitars, trumpet, keyboards, bass, drums, fiddle, recorder and saxophone combine for a massive live sound and entertaining, high energy, audience rockin’ stage performance.

Spinning tales of real people and historic events, their songs are ear worms that will have you singing along and perhaps taking to the dancefloor.

With a couple of EPs and an impressive album already under their belt their recent single release, “Bring Down This Flag” leads the way for their latest

Fosse Way School Receives WIRE Award

In November, the WIRE (Widening Inclusivity in RE) award was presented to Fosse Way School by Westfield Councillor, Dr Eleanor Jackson, alongside the Chair of Westfield Parish Council, Cllr Phil Wilkinson.

The school earned this accolade for enhancing inclusion in RE through various initiatives:

• Hosting a member of the Bristol & West Progressive Jewish Congregation who led an interactive session with secondary classes. Students engaged with artefacts, tasted Challah bread and learned about the Jewish faith.

• A member of the Fosse Way team, Naomi Mitchell attended a tour of a Bath Mosque, which included a Q&A session with the Imam.

• Having two primary classes of sensory students participate in the Spirited Arts RE competition by creating a collage that illustrates nature within manmade spaces.

Fiona Skinner, Head Teacher at Fosse Way School, stated: “The WIRE Award is significant to us because ensuring access to Religious Education for all our students is crucial. As a school catering to children aged four to nineteen with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), we face certain challenges in teaching, but this recognition demonstrates that everyone can learn about diverse faiths.”

Parish Clerk The

As we return to work after the Christmas break, the focus is on setting the budget for 2025/26 and preparing for an office move, which at the time of writing, appears imminent.

The Christmas Lights were well received in Westfield again this year and as our long-term contract comes

to an end, the Parish Council is going out to tender for the next five years of festive lights. 2025 will therefore see a fresh festive display, which we hope will be stunning.

At Waterside Valley the contract for the new paths has been awarded and health and safety issues are now being assessed before work starts on site. Our thanks as ever go to Somer Valley Rediscovered for funding and driving these works forward.

Also at Waterside Valley, it is time for the next tree inspection and quotes are being gathered for this purpose.

Make a Difference in Your Community

Are you passionate about our parish and eager to make a positive impact? We are looking for a new parish councillor to join our team and help shape the future of our community.

Parish Councillors play a vital role in representing local interests, improving facilities and working on initiatives that benefit residents. Whether it’s supporting local events, tackling environmental concerns, or improving public spaces, your voice can help drive change.

No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to get involved, listen to residents and work with others to enhance our community. Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month. We have two committees, Environment and Development,

which discusses planning applications, looks after the recreation grounds and the Waterside Valley – E&D meet on the second Monday of the month and Finance and Personnel, which does what it says on the tin! F&P meets, currently, on Wednesday morning, the week after E&D. It is expected that Councillors serve on at least one of the committees. Training is available for new councillors.
