KEYNSHAM WOMBLES T
he past year has seen Keynsham Wombles go from strength to strength with nearly 100 Wombles in Keynsham and a sister organisation in Saltford. Alongside Wombles, keeping their own small area clear of litter, there have been ‘Big Wombles’ - where an area is blitzed in an afternoon – these have taken place along the footpath beside Keynsham Football and Rugby Clubs and also in the roads around the Waitrose store. Following the success of the 2014 Music Festival clean-up, the Wombles will again be in action this year. There will be a craft table at the Womble stand, where children of all ages can come along and make sea creatures from (clean) recyclable household rubbish. There will also be 3
VOLUNTEERS WANTED Keynsham Wombles is looking for volunteers to help litter pick at the Music Festival on the following dates: Saturday, 4 July afternoon/ evening - Sunday, 5 July afternoon/evening followed by a final clear up on the morning of Monday, 6 July - your help even for a short time will be enormously appreciated. During the Music Festival itself we will have a craft making table so children of all ages can use their artistic talent to construct sea creatures out of (clean) rubbish - we hope whilst they are enjoying themselves they will be learning about the impact of litter on the environment at the same time. THE UNVEILING OF THE

he Arts Advisory Group has confirmed the unveiling of the new clock tower will now be at 11am on Saturday 19th September. This is later than previously announced as they realised that road and pavement works in the area contracted by B&NES Council could conflict with and compromise the installation. The Group decided that delaying the unveiling until September would minimise further disruption to residents using this part of the town centre.

ANNUAL REPORT 2014/2015 A
fter the sunniest January for many years our thoughts go forward to the warmer days of Spring. The current year of our Town Council contains one of the busiest periods of activity ever as our community celebrates success in so many ways. Our new centre moves forward as occupancy increases and the whole programme with roads, timeline and clock will be completed by the summer – you won’t be disappointed! Already residents are enjoying the new library, mosaics and one stop shop facility while being very impressed with the meeting facility of the community space. After the fire station moves to Hicks Gate we look forward to the completion of the new HQ for Avon Fire & Rescue and welcoming their staff to our town. On Somerdale with the development of houses the new Fry Club takes shape and the old factory should soon experience new life and again offer employment opportunities to the town. Nearby the Friends of Keynsham Station are working to enhance this growing transport location as we await rail electrification in the next several years. Our Memorial Park has witnessed tremendous popular success. The beginning of July experienced the most successful Music Festival ever with a week-long series of well attended events leading up to the main Sunday celebration. This acclaimed Festival driven by volunteers and supported by the

I’m also pleased to confirm that given the great success of our Memorial Park bandstand events these will be extended in 2015 by popular demand. There are many organisations in the Town supported by your Council that I might congratulate on another successful year. However, in the space available I would like to mention Keynsham in Bloom, that secured a silver gilt award in the annual national contest and Walkers are Welcome, a new group that delivered a series of events to promote this increasingly popular mode of transport. PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE REPORT BY CHAIRMAN, COUNCILLOR CLIVE FRICKER
We continue with popular annual events such as our Grants Evening and Keynsham Winter Festival and always value feedback from residents to ensure we’re on the right track. Not only do we have a website for your information, www.keynsham-tc. gov.uk, but also an email, facebook and twitter presence. In whatever way you choose to tell us your view matters and together we can make Keynsham an even more attractive place to work and live. We are still in Temple Street next to the current Fire Station so please call in where a mine of information is waiting for you.
This Committee has once again faced a heavy workload during the current year due to the strategic growth of our town and the ramifications of national legislation. Consequently we have considered key issues of Rights of Way and a full examination of the parameters of Keynsham’s Conservation Area.

The conclusion of B&NES Core Strategy will not only protect the community from unlimited development but also, in due course, provide a new income source via Community Infrastructure Levy that will be monitored by the Committee. Following the Planning Inspectorate’s approval of the Strategy we have been hard at work on a Keynsham Placemaking Plan including defining local Green Spaces and Housing Development Boundaries. Our regular consideration of planning applications has increased and consequently from April 2014 to the end of January 2015 the Committee considered 126 applications over a 10 month period. This equates to 2 more applications than for the whole of the 12 month period for 2013 – 2014. Seven applications were withdrawn after the Committee made their decision and one application was deemed as not requiring planning permission. There are 27 applications which are still pending decisions by the Bath and North East Somerset Council.

The Committee objected to 22 applications due to a range of reasons: Development in the Green Belt 4 Site overdevelopment 9 Out of keeping with the character of the area 8 The proposed plans would adversely affect the listed property or property in the conservation area 3 The proposed plans would create potential traffic & access problems or highways safety issues 4 Loss of parking or lack of parking 2 Overlooking or loss of privacy 2 Concerns in respect of drainage 1 Loss of ecological habitat 1 Objections without comments 1 It’s encouraging 94% of the decisions made by the Town Council agreed with later decisions made by B&NES Development Control Committee. Over the year we were pleased to welcome applicants and members of the public to our meetings to hear the debate or give direct evidence of their opinion prior to a planning decision.
ALLOTMENTS COMMITTEE REPORT BY CHAIRMAN, COUNCILLOR TONY CROUCH The Allotment Committee met three times with the representatives of the Allotment Association in the municipal year. The Association continues to run the Allotments on a day to day basis very successfully. Contractors have undertaken some work adjusting the camber of the road to alleviate flood water from surface run off but to date there has been insufficient rainfall to see if this has been successful. The car park has been made deeper and the banks to the rear tidied up. I attended the Associations AGM’s in February 2014 and 2015. At the AGM in 2015 Bassam Shahin stood down as manager of the site and treasurer of the Association. I would like to place on the record my thanks to Sam for his many years of hard work.
JOINT ARTS COMMITTEE REPORT BY CHAIRMAN, COUNCILLOR CLIVE FRICKER The Arts Working Party is now redefined as a Joint Arts Committee with B&NES Council and plays an increasingly important role in the life of Keynsham. Despite severe pressure on Council funding B&NES and our Town Council have continued to fund Arts activity including a grant scheme support for Keynsham Arts and popular events like Keynsham Music Festival. A notable feature is that B&NES Economic Strategy highlights the important role of the Arts in providing a supportive environment for the fast expanding Creative Industries in the Bristol – Bath corridor. As part of the impressive new town centre delivered by B&NES Council funding was provided to deliver a new Clock Tower in the Centre and a Timeline opposite the Memorial Park main entrance. Consequently two sub committees have been working hard with artists Sebastien Boyesen about the Clock and David Mackie with the Timeline. Both projects are due for delivery in Summer 2015 and both reflect the long history of Keynsham and a high degree of community involvement. A further advantage of the new centre is the conference area in the one stop building. This impressive facility known currently as The Community Space provides super tiered seating for events and already a dozen groups are using its potential including your Town Council for monthly meetings.

KEYNSHAM WINTER FESTIVAL COMMITTEE REPORT BY CHAIRMAN, COUNCILLOR GILL HELLIER Once again a very successful evening albeit under another name - we were blessed with dry weather for the whole evening. The switching on of the lights was completed with no hiccups and it was great to see the young people involved in the procession. My favourite item on the stage was the performance of the very young children with songs from Frozen. The events in The Community Space were well attended and included performances in the new theatre space. The workshop in the Key Centre was well attended by over 70 children. A big thank you to the Wombles for their fantastic effort in keeping the litter under control.

Next year we will have the full use of the outside area on Market Square and Market Walk and will be able to use the electricity already supplied to the site which will be of enormous benefit for the lighting of the area particularly the stalls.
GRANTS COMMITTEE REPORT BY CHAIRMAN, COUNCILLOR KATE SIMMONS Once again in 2014 the Town Council allocated £25,000 of its budget to grants for local groups that benefit Keynsham residents. The committee met in May 2014 to consider applications for a grant and recommended that grants be awarded to the following groups on the next page.

In addition to this Dial-a-Ride, Keynsham Farmers Market, Keynsham Music Festival Association and SWAN continue to receive grants from the Town Council. In July a Grants Presentation Evening in St John’s Church Hall was held where the successful groups were able to receive their awards and give a short talk about the work of their group.
GRANTS PRESENTATION Each year the Town Council holds a grants presentation evening to present grant awards and to provide an opportunity for the organisations to meet and hear about the range of voluntary work taking place for the benefit of Keynsham residents. This year the Presentation Evening will be held on Wednesday 22nd July 2015 in the Community Space, Keynsham Civic Centre, commencing at 7pm for 7.15pm start.

KEYNSHAM CONSERVATIVE CLUB Keynsham Conservative Club is situated at 22 High Street, Keynsham. It is a members only club and has been established since 1902. New members are always welcome. The Club consists of a lounge style bar, a skittles alley – with its own bar which we hire out for private functions and a games room with 2 full size snooker tables. At the back of the Club is a compact garden with a Petanque area.

ST KENYA TOWNSWOMENS GUILD
CYCLING FUN DAY
Our Member’s Day meeting in May was excellent and various sub groups displayed their activities. It was followed by a Ploughman’s Lunch to celebrate St Keyna TG’s 25th Anniversary. 5 of the Founder Members were present and they spoke to the group about how the Guild had been formed, of the many friends made and in particular of the exciting places they had visited over the years. It was a really lovely way to commemorate this milestone.
On 21st June next the Rotary Club of Keynsham is organising a cycling fun day at the Odd Down Sports Ground Cycle Track, Chelwood Drive, Bath. BA2 2PR, starting at 1 p.m.. Individuals, groups and families are all welcome to come along and help raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
We have now chosen our nominated charity for this year. A donation will be made to “Sophia’s Dream To Walk” at the end of the year. St Keyna Townswomens Guild meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the Fear Hall, Keynsham between 9.45 and 11.45 am. They are a friendly, outgoing group of ladies who enjoy interesting speakers and numerous sub-group outings and activities. KEYNSHAM CEMETERY A Blessing/Dedication of a recently installed bench to Commemorate World War I and a blessing of the new Cremated Remains area at Keynsham Cemetery took place on Friday 29th May. Reverend Andrew Judge, Churches Together Keynsham & Saltford, carried out the blessings and the event was attended by new and previous Town Councillors, members of various Keynsham organisations, local Funeral Directors and Town Council staff.

IAN CARTER Ian has been involved with the 1st Keynsham Scouts for 50 years after he joined the Cubs in 1963. He now helps oversee a group that caters for 300 young people and has around 100 adult leaders and volunteers. He said the cheque for £100 would go to the Keynsham Explorer Scouts Unit in memory of his grandfather.

BASSAM SHAHIN Bassam has recently stepped down as Chairman of the Keynsham Allotment Association, an organisation he has been involved in for 29 years, in which time he helped form the Association, managed the award winning Park Road allotment site and supported other gardeners. He said “It is a privilege to be presented with this award but it has been more of a privilege to live in this beautiful town and be part of its community”. His cheque for £100 was going to Thrive, a charity that promotes the therapeutic benefits of gardening for those with disabilities and illnesses. This was a favourite charity of his Mother-in-Law.

WALKERS ARE WELCOME T
he past few months has seen a surge in interest in the walks being organised by the group. With themed walks to both Manor Road Woodland and Abbots Wood, and longer trek around Folly Farm, with it’s magnificent display of wild flowers, and views across Chew Valley Lake, with an average of 25-30 members of the public now participating. The highlight has been a train trip to Bradford-on-Avon and two walks around this picturesque town. All these have been very social events with many friendships being forged. The next couple of months sees two very different but still interesting walks; the first on 13th June when we take a trip to Queen Charlton and join
in their Summer Fete. This will be a new departure for the group with a walk on a Saturday. We will be starting from the Memorial Park Cafe at 1.00pm heading up Stockwood Road and taking the ByWay to Queen Charlton, where we shall spend some time to enjoy the event, then head back to Keynsham via Stockwood Vale. The second walk will be a train trip to Bristol to follow the Shaun the Sheep trail around the town. This will be on Sunday 12th July. A YEAR OF DISCOVERY
I
t was during the Keynsham Town Council meeting of January 2014 that the idea of a Town Youth Council was first discussed. Young people are often seen as outside the political process and not alone in being disinterested in politics. It is vital that youth engage in our community so with the good support of the Town Council, a small subgroup of three was formed to work out just how we would form a Town Youth Council. Mark Willcox {former youth worker}, Briony Waite {B&NES Officer} and Andy Wait {former Town Councillor and teacher} met to discuss the process.
It was agreed we would approach all the voluntary organisations in Keynsham to form a core group of young people. This group had some training and informal meetings to work out details such as: • How often we should meet? • Would the process involve local political parties? • What would be discussed? • What to call ourselves? • Where shall we meet? • How would we organise the meetings? • Will there be food?

The first official meeting of the core group was in September where approx. 8 young people met with the adults who were boosted by Dan Crouch and George Morgan, both youth workers in the town. Cain Branscombe became Chair, Sam RabyElmer – Vice Chair and Millie Gregg – Secretary, a team of three had responsibilities for digital media. They chose the name of KeynshamNow for the Youth Council, they made a video with the help of Robin Morgan, and they decided on three young people issues to pursue, these were: BULLYING - DRUGS - YOUTH CRIME. The next step was to approach the 2 secondary schools in the town to ask if we could take assemblies, including viewing the video and run elections in the schools, both schools were most accommodating. Each school was offered 5 seats on KeyhshamNow. Andy Wait, Lead Mentor and Damien Erangey, the new Town Council Youth Worker, took the assemblies and received a positive response. In March, 5 members emerged to represent Wellsway and after elections at

Broadlands, 5 successful candidates were elected from 11 hopefuls. The full Keynsham Youth Council has met twice in April and May and are rapidly forming a voice for Keynsham youth. They have already had discussions with the Town Council, the Police, @One, Project 28 and the Keynsham Wombles. With the Wombles, they helped clear the skateboard park of litter one evening. They are beginning to learn about our democracy and that can only be good for the town and our society. To learn more visit the facebook site or read from KeynshamN twitter feed. lans are well ahead for this summer’s Festival line ups in The Park on July 5th – bands and performers booked include Bohemian Embassy, a welcome return for Portsmouth’s young ska and reggae band BigTopp, local talent including Foreign Affairs, Natalie Holmes, Caravaggio, George Jones, Sam Evans and Bristol’s Micaela Cheung on the Top Stage. The Bandstand Stage will feature Bristol’s, I am Horse, The Funkinsteins, Meet Your Feet, Keynsham’s The Blush and perhaps a return for Italian singer songwriter Gian Peara Millanetti. The developing TimeOut Stage will continue its mixture of bands and dance music with the likes of Keynsham’s Stone Cold Fiction, Jetpack and Nishe. The Community Performance Stage will feature Jazz with Keynsham’s Wholly Jazz, and performance from Students at Broadlands Academy, the Louisa Baker Music School and many other local groups’ performances. One big change this year will be that the bar facilities in The Park will, for the first time, feature an all Keynsham line-up, with more provision and a standardised pricing policy – so less queues and more choice! And more money for the local economy. We are also hoping to confirm some real developments with a contemporary dance platform at the Festival in our ongoing quest to represent better a large area of Keynsham interest.

Also new this year will be activity in the Park on the Festival Saturday: For the first time there will be something to see for all those who visit the Park on the Saturday afternoon. There will be a programme of folk and acoustic music in the performance tent, bar and food, and a host of traditional dancing in the Town Centre and in The Park – including a “side” from Berlin. The traditional Gala Concert with Keynsham Orchestra will be as normal, but maybe with a folk knees-up in the adjacent marquee to close the evening. We hope to establish a quality Folk Festival on the Saturday – over time. Also in the pipeline for the Saturday afternoon is a procession around town of Keynsham’s classic and vintage cars – many of which will end up on display in the Park. The Festival Week continues to grow and will include no less than four “classical” concerts including early music, Keynsham’s flautist Chris Docherty and the Opera in The Park – this year to include male tenors and basses for the first time. There will be a Jazz cabaret evening with Emma Hutchinson in The Old Manor and a special feature of the week will be the concert to mark the finale of the Butterflies Voice Choir project in The Space on Wednesday the 1st July. This and lots more – more Keynsham venues than ever before are keen to be involved and we expect much fun in town on Monday 29th June. Finally and most important is the social media poll going on right now to help choose the film for the Cinema Under the Stars – the front runner seems to be Footloose! Have a say before polling closes – as they say! Full listings of events and performers will begin to appear on the Festival website in a couple of weeks. WED 1ST JULY Butterflies Voice Choir Project Choir | Wednesday 1st July 2015 Starts 7.15pm The Space, Civic Centre Keynsham’s Butterflies Haven has long been established as a highly successful club and resource for young people on the autism spectrum. The Butterflies Voice Project, initiated by Keynsham Action Network, is for the creation of a Butterflies choir following TV’s Gareth Malone formula. This concert marks the climax of the project which began in September: expect not only performance but film footage of the choir’s development. Under the leadership of Charlie Groves this will be a very special and entertaining evening.

Bristol Jazz trumpeter David Mowatt walked, some years ago, on a personal pilgrimage from Bristol to Palestine – along the way he met and played with local musicians from the Balkans, Greece, and on to Turkey, Syria and Israel. He and

IN BLOOM I
t’s that busy time of the year for our Keynsham in Bloom Community Group, we have been working hard over the past few months ahead of this year’s South West in Bloom judging, on Friday 10th July. Our Bloom volunteers have been busy planting out spring bulbs, as well as carrying out litter picking and tidying up at Keynsham Railway Station and have attended a number of community events including the Keynsham Scout Plant Sale to promote Keynsham in Bloom. We are always looking out for new volunteers and would welcome anyone who has a few hours to spare. We normally hold one committee meeting a month, where we meet up to discuss various ideas and plans for further enhancement projects. You do not necessarily have to join our committee, we can always do with a couple of pairs of extra hands to help out at various work parties and events throughout the year. We are currently looking for someone to take on the role of secretary, this would mainly involve taking minutes at our committee meetings and maybe some admin, depending on how much time the person has to spare. Friday 10th July sees us welcoming judges Lesley Jelleyman and Terry Porter, who will be judging Keynsham as part of this year’s RHS South West in Bloom Competition. We will be showcasing both our work and that of the community groups who also have joined us as part of the In Bloom Campaign. The judges will be following a carefully planned judging route which will include visits to a number of locations and community groups. We hope to visit St Dunstan’s Church garden, Vicarage Green, Keynsham Railway Station, Keynsham Methodist Church garden, The Memorial Park,
Keynsham Scout Headquarters, Manor Road Woodland, Keynsham Allotments, Transition Keynsham and Wellsway School. We are also asking people to knit floral petals, which we will use to decorate the park railings. You can find a pattern for floral petals on page 35 Last year we were successful in reaching agreement with Highways to allow us to position six floral planters along the High Street, which were sponsored by local traders. They have helped to enhance and improve the look of our local High Street. We have received a great deal of positive comments, all of which said how much they have

As a result a further six are to be positioned along Temple Street and High Street, these planters are also available for sponsorship and we would welcome local traders to contact us if they would like to sponsor a planter. Each planter is available for sponsorship and will be renewed every 12 months. We have also been successful in obtaining funding from Severnside Community Rail Partnership, and will be planting up the troughs at Keynsham Railway Station. We are also looking at sustainable planting schemes at our Welcome to Keynsham signs, these should start to appear over the next couple of months. Activities which take place on these evenings include developmental sessions for TimeOut Member’s Management Team, Keynsham Neighbourhood Task Force and projects such as drug awareness, sexual health & relationships, bullying etc. THE ALLOTMENT PROJECT Keynsham Youth Service has an allotment space which is used to support young people to learn about growing food. This forms part of a wider project focusing on awareness of food. This project is very new and started through the passions of Carole & Bernard Duckett who have helped not only through supporting the young people at the allotment but also through helping the project acquire tools and a shed.
T
he Youth Centre is accessible to young people aged 13-19. It is opened on the following nights: Tuesdays & Thursdays 7pm-9.30pm Drop In session for 13-19 year olds, 50p entry fee Activities which take place on these nights include football on the floodlit pitch; music studio recording, filming project, female only sessions; table tennis; pool; air hockey; big screen TV; computers for internet use, CV workshops & job searches. The Allotment Project only got started over the Easter school holidays with 2 sessions happening over this time. The first was based in TimeOut and focused on young people planting seedlings and starting the propagating process. Each young person’s seedlings were labelled so young people can take individual care of their own and measure the developments of their plants over time. The plan will be for these seedlings to be eventually transported to our allotment. The seeds planted included chilli, basil, cress, cabbage, parsley, chives, courgette, celery, tomatoes, peppers, fennel, a sunflower & a Venus fly trap. The second session saw 13 young people get involved at the allotment, turning soil and getting rid of stones in preparation for planting. For young people not so green fingered and who want to show their creativity in other ways we will be creating a scarecrow for the allotment and decorating our new shed. The Youth Service now operates 2 allotment sessions a week (Tuesday & Thursdays 4pm6pm) thanks to the volunteers who support this project. The young people have planted potatoes, broad beans and onions to date and we will be transferring all the seedlings before the summer.

KEYNSHAM NEIGBOURHOOD TASK FORCE Keynsham Neighbourhood Task Force which is fondly called the ‘Neighbourhoodies’ are a group of young people who are dedicated in making a difference within the community. Any young person from Keynsham can join and get involved. Recently the Hoodies joined the Keynsham Wombles to do a litter pick at the Memorial Park. The Hoodies are also updating the flower bed area within Sherwood Close, a project which they started last year and are planning a project in Tintagel. BUSH CRAFT SCHOOL Bush Craft School is a new initiative of the Youth Service. One of our youth workers is also a qualified Forest School leader and has put together a programme which will run throughout the summer. The first session of Bush Craft School saw young people cook a nettle, wild garlic and dandelion risotto with wild garlic bread. Most of the ingredients were foraged from the Memorial Park.

Young people enjoyed learning about the different edible plants that were at hand and how they could be used in cooking. The Bush Craft School will continue throughout the summer with a view of identifying young people who are interested in participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme. “It is important that all young people have an opportunity to understand the role of nature within our lives and it is so lovely when I see a young person reconnect with nature” Lisa Tozer, Forest School Leader and Youth Worker. Other sessions have included understanding the impact and responsibility of fire making with practical sessions in which young people can participate. Further sessions will explore cooking with a campfire, quizzes on identifying flora & fauna and an overnight camping event where young people have to put together their shelters.

Youth Worker Youth Service with Keynsham Town Council Q. Do you live in Keynsham? A. No, I live in the sunny sea side town of Weston super Mare. I moved from London last August and I am planning to move to Keynsham in the next couple of months.
the philosophy of enabling the client to become the creator of the service so as long as young people are participating at a stakeholder level we should see a diverse and dynamic programme that hopefully will appeal to most young people.
Q. What is your experience as a Youth Worker? A. I have 25 years experience of working with young people. The majority of that time has been in Youth Services within the London Boroughs. I have been incredibly lucky to work with some brilliant youth workers throughout my career and to have also tried several styles of youth work including working in partnership with the Met Police to target gang members in London and working for the Children & Adolescence Mental Health Service.
Q. Away from work what are your hobbies/ interests? A: I am a keen reader. I also like walks and rambles.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your work? A: Youth work is in essence a style of informal education so the most enjoyable part of my job is seeing growth and development within young people, be that behaviour changes, social skill development or national accreditation which recognises their achievements. Q: What do you think the future holds for the Keynsham Youth Service? A: I think it is positive. We have a brilliant team who are passionate about what they do and they give over and above what is expected of them. If you have a team like that then you will be able to deliver a better service. We also have the new youth provision opening in September which will replace TimeOut so these are exciting times. Youth work is quite unique in

he Keynsham Talking Newspaper is always on the lookout for new listeners. This is a free service for partially sighted and blind people which comes to them on a weekly basis. These days we record on a memory stick rather than tape and provide our listeners with a player which is very simple to use and we can help with getting started. If anyone knows of someone who could benefit from the service please contact us on 0117 299 3021.
The Newspaper are also looking for someone to join the Editing Team, on a voluntary basis, for the News ‘side’. The Editor selects the news items from local newspapers of the region ready for the recording team. FOCUS ON FRY TENNIS CLUB With the longer evenings and the promise of summer, do you fancy dusting off your racquet and playing tennis again? If so, come and join us at Fry Tennis Club. We are situated on the Somerdale site, close to the Bowls Club and the new Fry Club. We have two synthetic, floodlit courts. There are two multipurpose courts alongside which can also be booked by members of the public for tennis through the main Fry Club. Membership currently stands at 40 adults and 20 juniors and the annual membership fee is £95 for adults and £20 for juniors. This includes membership of the Fry Social Club. Fry Tennis Club has many facets to suit the needs of its members. These include: • Club nights on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the year • Club play on Saturday afternoons from 1.30pm • Senior members play on Tuesday and Thursday mornings • A morning Ladies group
Junior coaching is available on Saturday mornings. Matches are played in the Avon League and the Club has 1 Men’s and 1 Ladies’ team in the summer league and 1 mixed team in the late summer league; there is also 1 mixed team in the Winter league and a mixed Veterans’ team. During Club play, tennis balls are provided free of charge and members are entitled to join the BTM (British Tennis Membership) free of charge which gives entitlement to enter the Club ballot for Wimbledon tickets. ASPARAGUS FRITTATA INGREDIENTS • 12-14 asparagus, woody ends trimmed and sliced in half lengthways • 8 eggs • 3 spring onions, chopped • 30 g dill, roughly chopped • 30 g coriander, roughly chopped • a pinch of pink Himalayan salt, or sea salt • 4 tsp sunflower oil, or sunflower seed butter • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
4. Evenly arrange the asparagus on top of the egg mixture in the pan and then put the pan into the oven for 15 minutes or until the egg is firm. Slice in the pan, remove each slice and serve with a large side salad.
METHOD 1. Preheat the oven to 170C/150C fan/gas 3. Bring a pan of water with 1 tablespoon of table salt to a rolling boil and put your asparagus in for 1 minute. Drain the asparagus and run under ice cold water until cold. 2. Crack your eggs into a large mixing bowl and whisk and add the spring onions, dill and coriander to the egg mixture. Season with a pinch of Himalayan pink salt. 3. Heat the oil in a non-stick heavy-bottomed, ovenproof frying pan over a medium heat. Toss the sesame seeds into the pan and then as soon the seeds start changing colour, to a golden brown, pour in the egg mixture.
