RADSTOCK MUSEUM
from The Wheel
by Tina Veater
SomersetCoalfield Life at Radstock Museum is delighted that it has now reopened on Sunday and Wednesday afternoons (2-5pm). Key parts of the Museum have been treated with an anti-viral protective coating and Covid security measures are in place. The newly-refurbished Alex Hann Exhibition Gallery was officially opened just before lockdown and now contains six mini-exhibitions covering Coalfield heritage. These include the 70th anniversary of the closure of Camerton Colliery, the story of Alex Hann and his Koncap mine safety training invention, an 1883 survey of the Waldegrave Pits in Radstock, the stories behind commemorative watches presented to Radstock families after WW1, the Spanish ‘flu pandemic that hit the Coalfield in 1918
and 1919 and the history of the Thatcher family associated with Thatcher + Hallam, solicitors based in Midsomer Norton. The Museum website (www. radstockmuseum.co.uk) has details of all the safety measures in place.
