Video of the Week – DryLin at High Speeds Low coefficient of friction, high load capacity and no need for lubrication Over the years, engineers at linear slide specialist igus ® have encountered incidents where traditional linear slides have not held up to regular use at high speeds; this is because they wear, cause damage by sediment build-up and have a high coefficient of friction, which is why igus developed the DryLin® range of linear bearings. The igus DryLin linear bearings can run at speeds of up to 20m/s, due to a low coefficient of friction, high load capacity and no lubrication requirements; grease and oil are one of the main factors in slowing down a linear slide, as this collects debris such as dirt and sand, slowing the machinery and eventually causing machine downtime. The DryLin range uses proven plastic technology to provide a robust and reliable bearing system that runs virtually maintenance-free; bearings can run on round shaft, monorail systems, low profile guides and modular double rail units. DryLin has more recently evolved to include driven modules, either by trapezoidal leadscrew or, for high-speed applications, a belt drive. The running lifetime, and other critical technical points, can be calculated precisely using the online tools found at http://www.igus.co.uk along with 3D and 2D CAD models. All the DryLin products are subjected to extensive testing and development to ensure that they consistently offer the best possible characteristics for the customer and their applications.
