LOCATION

Philadelphia, the birthplace of American democracy, is one of the most exciting cities in the United States. Our location in Philadelphia’s vibrant University City neighborhood is ideal. It is steps away from the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University, and close to Temple University, Jefferson University, Philadelphia University, University of the Arts and University of the Sciences. We are close to public transportation and all that Philadelphia has to offer, including arts and culture, historic sites and museums, parks, restaurants, theaters, shopping, sports, and more.

HOUSE PHILADELPHIA AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPTIONS

We offer housing options that are competitively priced to fit your budget. • The majority of our accommodations are single rooms in suites that have shared kitchens and shared bathrooms, and single rooms in suites that have shared bathrooms but no kitchen. These popular accommodations offer privacy and the social benefits of communal living. • Resident Members who have lived at other International Houses are eligible for a 10% discount on their rooms and reciprocal discounts at other International Houses.

FLEXIBLE HOUSING AGREEMENTS

We offer flexible short- and long-term leases that are designed to meet your needs, preferences and schedule. You can stay for a week or up to a few years.

Our staff and trained Resident Advisors are dedicated to meeting your needs and exceeding your expectations. We’re here for you 24/7. We are dedicated to enriching your experience as a Resident Member.

G eneral I n f or m ation ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To become a Resident Member, you must be at least 18 years old and a full-time student (undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate), research fellow or scholar, an intern or a professional trainee. We welcome applicants from all nations, including the United States.

APPLYING FOR HOUSING

The application can be completed in two steps: 1. Complete the application for housing in person or online at www.ihousephilly.org/housing. 2. Pay the deposit to hold your housing reservation.

GUARANTEED RESERVATION WITH DEPOSIT

Your room reservation is guaranteed after you receive an acceptance email from International House and your deposit has been paid. Your room deposit is credited to your first month charge.

PAYMENT METHODS

International House accepts cash, travelers’ checks, personal checks from U.S. banks, debit/credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover), or a combination of these. Additionally, you may pay online using the same username and password from your housing application.

Electricity, air conditioning, heat and water are included at no additional cost.

CABLE, WIRELESS INTERNET AND TELEPHONE Each unit is provided with local telephone service with voicemail and wired for cable television and Internet (you must arrange service with the cable/Internet provider). Wireless Internet access is available at no cost in public areas of International House.

PARKING

Garage parking on the premises must be reserved for a fee when available. On-street parking near International House is available and there are parking garages in the neighborhood.

SMOKe-free Environment

Our building is 100% smoke-free. Designated smoking areas are outside of the building.


Group and Conference Housing

We offer Group and Conference housing options for academic and/or non-profit businesses, organizations, clubs, and other institutions exploring, visiting or training in the Philadelphia area. If you are in need of housing and have three or more people that require housing arrangements in Philadelphia, please consider International House.

H ousing O ptions

Single Room

The vast majority of our units are furnished single rooms designed to accommodate one Resident Member. Single rooms are the most affordable option, with shared bathrooms, and in most cases shared kitchens. Single rooms offer privacy in 10-bedroom suites while providing opportunities to form friendships with fellow Resident Members.

Single Room with Shared Bathroom

Single rooms offer the ideal balance between privacy and friendly community living. Single rooms are 9’ x 12’ (2.73m x 3.64m) and are fully furnished with a bed, desk, chair, dresser, mirror, closet, refrigerator, bookshelves, bulletin board, and lamps. A large window covers the width of an entire wall. Ten single rooms are grouped in a suite. Each suite includes a shared bathroom with two private toilets, one shower, one bathtub/shower, and four sinks. It also offers a common lounge that provides the perfect setting for social activities. Men and women are housed in separate suites. Four suites share an additional common area, lounge and a balcony. Each suite has a microwave.

Shared Kitchen

Single Room with Shared Bath & Kitchen

Single rooms with shared kitchens provide Resident Members the opportunity to prepare their own meals. Sharing shopping and cooking responsibilities with suitemates is also a great way to enjoy foods from other countries while spending quality time with new friends. These suites include a shared kitchen and dining area equipped with a microwave, stove/oven, sink, and storage cabinets. Each bedroom is equipped with a refrigerator. NOTE: Daily cleaning service of all common areas is provided.


One Bedroom Apartment

Private Room with Bath (without kitchen)

Private rooms are 12’ x 27’ (3.64m x 8.2m) and fully furnished to accommodate either one or two people, your choice. Each room has two beds, a dresser, desk, chair, bookshelf, closet, lamps, refrigerator, and a private bathroom with a toilet, shower, and sink.

One Bedroom Apartment

The one-bedroom apartments with outdoor balconies are 22’ x 22’ (6.67m x 6.67m). These include a living room, a small kitchen, a dining area, a separate bedroom, and a private bathroom with toilet, bathtub/shower, and sink. These are furnished with two single beds, a sofa, refrigerator, desk, table and chairs, dresser, closet, and lamps.

Efficiency Apartment

Efficiency apartments with outdoor balconies are available in two sizes: large 17’ x 24’ (5.15m x 7.28m) and small 15’ x 24’ (4.55m x 7.28m). These apartments feature a combined bedroom/living area, a small kitchen, a dining area, and a private bathroom with toilet, bathtub/shower, and sink. Each apartment is furnished with a twin bed, a loveseat or sofa, refrigerator, desk, table and chairs, dresser, closet, and lamps.
