History
Origin: It was used as remedy in Switzerland in 1792. Popularity: 5 p.m. was called “the green hour” in France in 1805. International: It gained a spike in popularity between 1850~1910, corresponding with the Art Nouveau & Aesthetic movements. Bans: It was banned by the 1910s because of being associated with death, hallucinogen & marijuana. Revival: It began to reappear in the 1990s.
