MAURITIUS’ independence from Britain in 2968 marked the transfer of political power to the Indians, in particular the Hindus. The national economy has undergone a rapid transformation towards greater diversification and the island now represents a successful case of a cultural policy to accommodate multiple traditions while containing ethnic conflict.

TWENTIETH CENTURY CHINESE PAINTING, the Museum of East Asian Art in Cologne presents a comprehensive overview of this century’s developments of style of Chinese painting. More than 130 pictures coming from the Hong Kong Museum of Art and significant private collections show the developments of traditional painting up to the experimental works of contemporary young artists.
