Connect4

about
Connect4 is a biennial event for the IIDA Southwest Chapter. This event occurs on the odd numbered years (opposite of our Couture Event). We are proud to say some of our proceeds from tonight’s event will be used to fund Connect4 2023. This philanthropic event promises to make a huge difference in our community and in communities across the Southwest. This event is a planned event which will occur in all four of our Chapter’s City Centers: Albuquerque + Las Vegas + Phoenix + Tucson coming together in the spirit of the 4C’s: Collaboration + Community + Compassion + Creativity The culmination of this event is a “Build Day” in which, each City Center has a philanthropic “build day” weekend where we use our expertise, creativity, resources and volunteer labor to re-design a pre-chosen space that benefits a local community organization. You can become involved in a variety of ways! • Volunteer your time or expertise on the actual Build Day • Get involved in one of the event planning committees in your nearest City Center. • Donate to an individual City Center or the event as a whole. • Donate in-kind materials such as paint, carpet, resilient flooring, furniture, lighting, audio-visual materials, etc.

Nature’s processes, the gentle acts of becoming, show themselves in a collection of organic neutrals and tonal luxury.

This palette’s earthiness and rich warmth—with its sepia softness—balance the lush refinement of art deco silhouettes on the radical raw edge of 1980s postmodernism.

Elontec’s dress is named “Fractal Unbinding” and is a culmination of our team’s educational background (design, architecture and engineering) and the strengths of our two partner vendors, Buzzispace and Versteel. Leveraging the fundamental elements of geometry, we are utilizing a partnership of technology and materials to create a controlled explosion of points, lines and shapes as predominate areas of our dress.

Our partnership with Versteel allowed us to use CAD software to three-dimensionally model the dress’s undercage (or substructure) and mathematically define various triangular plates which were laser cut and powder-coated at Versteel’s factory so we could fabricate a binding cage. The cage merely tries to contain an explosive collection of random colors, shapes and sizes. This, to us, is a wonderful leveraging of both fashion (with the fetish inspiration) with mathematics and control, resulting in an organized chaos.

Our soft vendor is Buzzispace and we opted to focus on what they do best, acoustical felt pieces. We created both planar and spherical roundness from the felt with random and overlapping placements, particularly on the skirt. This containment of geometry yet it’s allowance to non-conform was a wonderfully nerdy weirdness to us.

The theme was to leverage the strengths of our team and partners into our purposeful interpretation of wonderful and weirdness and we leaned fully into a theme of geometry and texture to do so. In short, we allowed the conformity and wonderfulness of math to explore into the amazing weirdness of couture resulting in a dissonance of order and chaos.

Snake Charming is the practice of appearing to hypnotize a snake (often a cobra) by play and waving around an instrument called a pungi. A typical performance may also include handling the snakes or performing other seemingly dangerous acts.

OPUS

Color creates movement, composing a unique masterwork of dynamic transitions and stirring rhythms.

This palette of dusky deep tones and unexpected accents was created to be a new kind of classical, to set drama and emotion to the art of good style, and to never, ever fade into the background.

The tweed fabric “Three-D” and boucle fabric “Winsom” both by Luna Textiles pay homage to the uniform worn by the circus ring leader, creating a pattern that resembles a deconstructed circus tent. The Living Infinite “The sea is everything. It covers seven-tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where [we are] never lonely, for [we feel] life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the ‘Living Infinite’...”
