World Bank trains 181 farmers From Halima Musa, Kano ABOUT 18 1 farmers were trained under a World Bank project on how to make good use of their farm lands in a way that the activities could be sustained. The training which took place
at Tanir's Guest was aimed at training the fa rmer on ways that they could use the farmland in a modern way so that the land could be used for a long time without it losing its fertility. This was disclosed by the environmental officer of the commercial
agric project, Malam Naziru Abba Yusuf. . Yusuf said there was the need to sensitize the farmers on how to apply fertilizer and other agro-chemicals correctly on their farmlands so that the effect of the chemicals when wrongly used
would not destroy it completely. He added that the World Bank Project would soon distribute fertilizer and agro-chemicals to the farmers, which was why it thought there was the need to train them .on how to apply it. The environmental officer
said such training would accord the farme rs the opportunity to have sustainable farming activities on their farmlands. The training workshop was attended by farmers engage in commercial agriculture producing maize, rice and livestock.

'We need to change the way we supervise our regulative entities to focus on those areas that form the greatest risk to the fund we mange:' he further said, adding that the whole essence is to rationalize our resources and ensure"that substantial part of our resources focuses on those areas that are important "The advantage of course is to assist us to clearly understand and identify early warning signals so that we can take appropriate actions:'
