Farmers to buy fertilizer at N1,SOO in Abaji PIC: HUSSEIN YAHAYA
By Hussein Yahaya FARMERS at Abaji Area Council will hencefortb buy a bag ofNPKJUrea fertilizer at N 1,500 as against tbe N2,I00official price. The council's Chairrrian, Mr. Peter Yohanna Ushafa, stated tbis yesterday while flagging off tbe sale of.fertilizer for tbe 2011 farming season at the council's secretariat at Abaji. He said tbe council will subsidise a bag of fertilizer by N 600 so that farmers will be able to afford the product and record bumper harvest during tbe farming season. According to him, 80-90 percent of residents of tbe area earn their livelihoods directly or indirectly from farming. The chai rman announced tI,at the cou ncil has taken delivery of about 300 metric tonness of assorted fertilizers from tbe FCT Administration, adding that a special task force has been set up to ensure that the fertilizer get to tbe real farmers. He also announced tbat his administration has purchased tbree new tractors tbrough the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat to boost agricultural activities in the council, adding that agrochemicals will be purchased and distributed to farmers at
affordable prices. "Let me sound a note of warning tbat my administration will not toler-
ate diversion of fertilizer because we are doing everytbing possible to make sure tbat tbe area . council
maintains its position as tbe food basket of the territory; he said. Eariier, tbe council's
Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture an~ Natural Resources, Mr. Isaac Adebgoro, said tbe council has
qualified extension staff to advise and teach farmers modern farming techniques.
FCT Agency for Mass Education trainsistaff By Abubakar Sadiq Isah THE FCT Agency for Mass Education last Thursday organized an orientation training programme for both its old and newly recruited facilitators at Abaji. Speaking at the workshop, Abaji Zonal Co-ordinator of the agency, Malam Kudu Dangana, said tile essence of organizing the workshop was to orient the staff on how to carry out tile agency's programme, which baSically is for adults. According to hinl, tbe newly recruited staff are coming to teach in tbe agency and
may not know the psychology of male and female adults tbat tIley are going to teach, adding tIlat some of the staff are teachers under tile normal school systems. He said there are tIlree programmes being run by the agency which include, continuing education , vocational education ,and basic literacy education. The zonal co-ordinator said over 1,000 adult learners have so far graduated from tbe agency since tbe establishment of the agency in 1991, adding tbat 317 people were also trained in various hand skills programmes tI1rough the vocation training.

THE traditional ruler of Mararaba Guruku, Chief .Alayayi Zakwoyi, has called on security agencies and the Independent _National EleCtoral Commission ([NEC) to ensure that adequate security
personnel are posted to polling units to guarantee the safety of eligible voters. Chief Zakwoyi commended the peaceful conduct of the elections so far and called on youths in the area not to allow themselves to be used by politi-
cians to disrupt the electoral process, adding that it is only the living that will reap the dividends of democracy at the end of the day. He appealed to eligible voters to come out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice.
