Kuje FRSC warns cyclists over helm~t compliance By Abdulkadir V. Abdullahi THE Kuje Federal Road Safety Commission's (FRSC) unit Commander, J.A. Omoleye, yesterday warned commercial cyclists in Kuje town against flouting the law to use crash helmets while riding their bikes . . Commander Omoleye vowed that his command will continue to clampdown on those opposed to the rule in the area. He said the non-compliance stance of many commercial motorcyclists in the area has led to their arrest. add-

ing that such offenders are usually released as soon as they pay fines to the command. According to him, the FRSC will continue to educate residents as well as cyclists on the importance of crash helmet usage and the dangers not wearing it poses. He said it is wrong for anybody to assume that the policy of helmet usage is no longer in force. saying that using helmet will prevent a lot ofhavocs caused by road accidents. The road safety commander informed that his command has also secured more rescue equipment and communication gadgets for effective service delivery in the council, adding that FRSC will not relent in its efforts to enforce the law and better the lives of residents through safety on roads . . He commended motorists in the area for complying with various rules reeled out by the FRSC to maintain sanity on the roads.

THE Police in Abuja yesterday arraigned a 39-year-old plumber, Ishaku AbduUahi, before an Abuja Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing a generator at Nyanya. Abuja. The accused was charged with alleged theft, an offence punishable under Section 286 of ·the Penal Code. Police prosecutor, Corporal Jeremiah Tarigshak. informed the court that on April 24, the accused was arrested by a police patrol team led by one Inspector Simon Bitrus with a Tiger generator set. By Abubakar Sadiq Isah THE FCT Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development, Malam Hamza .Adamu Buwai. has called on farmers across the six area councils of the FCT to utilize the opportunity presented to them by the agricultural Insurance scheme to cushion the devastating effects of the climate change on their agricultural produce. Buwai noted that the devastating natural disasters experienced all over the world due to climate change, have caused drought, flood. erosion with its Significant negative impacts on the global food situation. He said the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat has sought collaboration with the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation to sensitize farmers from the six area councils to take advantage of the ' agricultural insurance scheme. According to him, the FCT Administration pays premium subsidies on behalf ~f farmers in the territory, as it is imperative for the farmers to key into the scheme, which would serve as mitigation for the farmers in the event of an occurrence of natural disaster. He said the administration is very mindful of the importance of food security to the overall security of the citizenry. . - "You would agree with me that the FCT is an area with high influx of people. This implies that deliberate efforts must therefore be !)lade to accelerate production of food and fibres in order to keep up with the growing population ill the territory:' he added. He said the FCT Administration has consolidated efforts, especially in the area of procurement of critical farm inputs to prepare adequately for the 2011 cropp\ng season as wellas for the emergencies and natural calamities affecting our agricultural development efforls and food reserves.
