The Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Mr Stephen Idehenre, who addressed the protesters, expressed solidarity with the farmers' agitation. Idehenre said that the house had the interest of the farmers at heart. "This is the first assembly, which has a farmer as the Chairman of the Committee on Agricolture. "I know you people are genuine farmers. I was in that struggle for the NI billion a.w!c loan before I came here. I am sure that by this your presentation today, the governor will hear it. We are already in the farming season. I am sure the money will come. I can assure you that the counterpart funding is included in this year's budget," he said. He also promised the farmers that the assembly would help them to lobby tlie governor to quickly release the counterpart funding.

The reason behind this according to STI Consulting was to enable the company to pursue its core business of consulting and executive management development training. Accoraing to the Managing Director of STI Consulting, Abiodun Olusanya, "the decision to relinqUish the Europcar Franchise is a first step taken in charting a new strategic direction tfiat will reposition STI Consulting to fully realise its potential in Nigeria and West African subregion." Olusanya explained that Europcar Nigeria was a fran· chise aT Eurofcar International, and one 0 the leaders in the Nigerian car rental and leaSing market. He _<aid that the brand owner, EUfopcar International was a Paris based car rental compa· ny owned by the French Investment Company Eurazeo, after its sale by the Volkswagen group. The company, he said, was founded in Paris in 1949.an<\" the European leader in pas· senger car and light utility vehicle rentals, adding that it served business and leisure ' customers throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and t\sia Pacific. According to him, since its strategic alliance with Enterprise Holdings in the USA, Eurpcar operated the world's largest car rental net· work, with more than 1.2 mil· lion vehicles and 13000 loca· tions around the world. "The Nigerian franchise has noW been acquired by Fleet Masters, a Nigerian vehicle leasing and rental company, and will initially operate in Lagos, Abuja, Pon Harcourt, Enugu, calabar and Benin; he stated. To the Country manager of Europcar, Amaka OkwUdili, more Europcar locations will open before the end of the year.
