ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Firstly Alhamdulillah , thanks to Allah I have finished and able to manage designing and arrange the content in this magazine. Thank you to Cuyaa ( Suria) who gain information for the places and food. Thanks to Madam Zuriani because she always giving her opinion on how we can produce a good magazine for readers. I hope the readers of ‘The Facets of Malaysia’ satisfied with the content and design I make.
Some readers might have questions in their mind what is the meaning of ‘facets’ in the title of this magazine. A facet is one side or aspect of something. It is just a different name for facts.

KLCC
T
he Petronas Twin Towers stands tall at 88 floors high. One major attraction of the Towers is the Twin Towers Skybridge between the two towers at the 41st and 42nd floor. The Skybridge has also made a mark in the record books for being the highest 2-storey bridge in the world. The unique fact about this bridge is that it is not attached to the main structure but instead, it is designed to slide in and out of the towers to prevent any breakage. It also functions to provide some support to the structure of the Towers when winds are strong. The Skybridge is by far the most anticipated feature of the Towers as the view from the bridge is simply breath-taking. The admission to the bridge is free of charge but visitors are required to get a pass which is issued on a limited number each day. There is no surprise if you see a long queue as early as 7am in the morning just to get the pass. Other attraction at the Towers
involves spending a lot of money because Suria KLCC has a wide range of goods from all over the world. You can shop still you drop or you can shop till your legs say stop. A piece of advice, do not wear heels. Shopping at Suria KLCC may cause you some muscle aches. Other than the myriads of shops selling luxury goods, Suria KLCC restaurants are also plentiful. You can choose from high end restaurants to the food court there. If all the shopping and eating is just too much to handle, you can make way to the KLCC Park which spans to an area of 17 acres. The KLCC Park is complete with jogging and walking paths, wading pools, children’s playground and also a fountain with light show. There are much more places to visit in the Suria KLCC as well as its surrounding.

MASJID NEGARA T
he best features of the mosque are the 73 meters high minarets and its 16 pointed star concrete which is its main roof. There are many meanings to the design of the mosque. The main roof ’s design was inspired from the idea of an open umbrella while the minarets were like a folded umbrella. The concrete main roof utilizes the concept of folding plates in order to obtain larger space at the main gathering hall. Around the compound are many reflecting pools and also fountains. The National Mosque is situated just a kilometer away from the popular Lake Gardens Kuala Lumpur. The Lake Gardens itself is made up of five different gardens and parks which attract thousands of visitors annually. Among the parks at the Lake Gardens are the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park and the Deer Park Kuala Lumpur. The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is a must to visit as it is the world’s largest free flight aviary.

PETALING STREET
T
he Petaling Street (Chinatown) in Kuala Lumpur is like the Bukit Bintang of the older part of Kuala Lumpur. It is a place where the hustling and bustling never comes to an end. Day or night, visitors keep coming to Petaling Street to either dine on the famous street foods here or to get some good bargains on things sold here. Petaling Street is the shoppers’ paradise if you want to bargain your way to some cheap things. There is almost everything here from clothes, souvenirs to electronic items to fabrics. Other than cheap stuff, Petaling Street is renowned for selling imitation goods like handbags, wallets, watches and shoes from brands like Adidas, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, Nike and so on. Food here is also aplenty. A famous delicacy in Petaling Street is the salted roast duck which is sold at a mobile stall- the stall is built on a motorcycle. Be sure to be there early as the roast ducks are sold out by lunch time. Other than shopping and eating here in the Chinatown, there are other attractions nearby as well. Two places not to be missed are the Central Market Kuala Lumpur and
the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Kuala Lumpur. Here you will be able to experience the rich culture of all the races in Malaysia. In the market, there are the Lorong Melayu, Lorong India and Straits Chinese which allows visitors to understand more of the difference in the culture of our people. At the Central Market is also the place you can get great souvenirs which are all locally made such as kebaya, batik, songket and handicrafts. The Sri Mahamariamman Temple which is located at the edge of Petaling Street is the richest and oldest Hindu temple you can find in Kuala Lumpur. Its history dates back to the year of 1873 and has since been an important place of worship for the Indians here. Due to its history and influence, this temple is a vital part of the culture and heritage of Malaysia.

MASJID JAMEK M
asjid Jamek is known as the Friday Mosque. The mosque was built in the year of 1907 but was officially opened by the Sultan of Selangor two years later. One interesting fact about the mosque besides being the oldest one in town is that it was built on the first Malay Burial Ground in Kuala Lumpur. The architecture of the mosque is a combination of Moorish, Islam and Magul. It was designed by the architectural assistant of the Public Work and Survey Department, with the name of Arthur Benison Hubbock. The mosque provides a sense of tranquility and serenity as there are pal trees around, not to mention the nearby rivers. There are a total of three domes surrounding the prayer hall. The central dome is as high as 70 ft and is defined by two other lower domes

and there are two high minarets in red and white stripes at the corners which measured around 88 ft tall. The mosque is always packed with devotees and also tourists. This is definitely a must visit place to appreciate the ancient architecture with a combination design of different cultures. It may not be something special to Muslims but for all other religions, this is indeed a place worth a visit. There are a few nearby tourist attractions such as the Central Market, China Town and Little India. What makes it best is that they are all in walking distance. Not only you can save the cab fees, but also you can experience the hospitality of Malaysians and enjoy the beautiful surrounding.
CENTRAL MARKET
C
entral Market started off as a humble wet market in the heart of the city center back in the 1940s. It has evolved a great deal since then and now it stands firm as the landmark which symbolizes all the culture and heritage of our multi-racial country. You will immediately notice that the theme of the market is based solely on the various cultures in Malaysia. The shops here are divided based on the groups of races. Representing each of the races in Malaysia are the Straits Chinese, the Lorong Melayu and Lorong India. There is also a street which represents the Baba and Nyonya community in the state of Malacca. The Central Market is full of stalls which sell handicrafts which are all locally made. You can purchase batik, songket, wood carvings, souvenirs, accessories and much more here. If you get tired or hungry in the midst of all the shopping, do not fret. There are myriads of eating places where you can dine at and take a rest. Once you have filled your stomach and taken the much needed rest, you can move on to the
second floor. This floor mainly sells garments and has a few souvenir stalls. There are other activities at the Central Market which are usually held at the stage outside the market. Art and cultural performances are held every now and then to attract visitors as well as to expose them to the uniqueness of our society. The latest addition to the market is the Annexe Gallery which exhibits contemporary works of our local artists. If you are looking for a place to put up for the night after a long day at the Central Market, there are many hotels in Kuala Lumpur. One of the nearest hotels which you can go to is the Ancasa Hotel & Spa Kuala Lumpur.
